1 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2005 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 01/25/2012

Driving at 55 mph the vehicles wrench light came on and it went into a reduced rpm mode, causing the vehicle to lose all power and go from 55 to 10 mph rapidly. Put on the hazard lights and pulled off of the highway. Not wanting to turn the vehicle off I drove slowly to a mechanic where he ran a code check and the codes read p2107 and p2110. Told it could be one of 2 problems, throttle body or pcm. We replaced the throttle body. The car began after about a week to do the same thing about once a week. Turning off the car and restarting seem to fix the problem. About a 3 weeks later the same thing occurred however this time the engine light also appeared and would not clear with a restart. Same codes appeared p2107 and p2110. Next replaced the pcm, this did not fix the problem. The Ford dealership ran diagnostics and could not find the problem. This tends be a safety issue that Lincoln Ford are trying to ignore. Rear end collisions could occur when this occurs. A safety bulletin needs to be released and Ford needs to make things right.

2 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2000 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

The contact owns a 2000 Lincoln Ls. The contact stated that the fastest speed her vehicle can reach is 20 mph. Whenever she attempts to accelerate, the vehicle fails to catch the correct gear. The vehicle will accelerate extremely fast or the engine will just rev loudly, without the vehicle moving anywhere. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle slows down on its own, with or without the brake or accelerator pedals being depressed. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop, but they initially could not determine the cause of the failures. The contact was informed to take the vehicle to the dealer so that they could reset the code for the pcm. Through research, she learned that resetting the pcm is very expensive and not fully effective. She also found numerous consumers that were experiencing the same failures with the same type of vehicle. The failure mileage was 100,000 and current mileage was 103,000.

3 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2004 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 07/01/2007

The contact owns a 2004 Lincoln Ls. When the brakes were applied, the vehicle lunged forward. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who reprogrammed the pcm control module. The failure continued to occur intermittently and the contact stated that it would also recur while decreasing speed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on numerous occasions where the pcm control module was reprogrammed approximately four times. The failure continued to recur intermittently. The contact also stated that the engine coils needed to be replaced every three to six months. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who confirmed that the sealant on the hood caused water to leak into the engine coils. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 122,975.

4 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2000 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 12/03/2005

I have had many shifting problems with my 2000 Lincoln Ls. I have had it looked at by dealers and have been told many different reasons why I am having the shifting problems. One dealer told me it was a computer glitch and cannot be fixed. So far I have had my computer reset, fuel filter changed, ignition coils and igniters changed, fuel injectors cleaned or something like that and some shifting sensor or transmission sensor changed. With all this maintenance done I still have a engine light illuminated on my dash and my car still shifts when it feels like it. Many times when I need to accelerate it pauses and seems to not be able to find gears. The most scary incident was while driving on the freeway on December 3, 2005 my 2000 Lincoln Ls's shifting became erratic sputtered and then the car turned off. While going about 65 miles per hour I was left with no power steering and had to pull to the side of the road nearly being rear ended by a truck. I have yet to have an accident but fear that with this erratic shifting it might happen. I will pay whatever it takes to have this problem fixed once and for all. I have no choice but to drive this car to and from work because it is my only means of transportation. I love my Lincoln and this is my second one my first was a 2001 and it had the same shifting problems but not as bad as this one. My Lincoln is not the only one with these problems I am a member of 4 Lincoln clubs on line and have heard many horror stories about Lincoln Ls's erratic shifting. Not only is this problem deemed unfixable by my dealership. Many other Lincoln dealerships have given the same run around to members of the Lincoln clubs that I am a member of. Llsoc is one of the clubs that I am a member of.

5 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2000 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 07/21/2005

From the day I bought the car the transmission has shifted strangely. Several visits to the dealer and they tried several "reflashes" on the transmission control module. No change. Recently the problem has gotten worse, and the car has stalled 3 times while under power, and numerous times while idling at a stop light. Hard shifts and erratic shifts around 40mph are everyday driving occurances. Dealer told me 'that is how that transmission is designed'. That's crap. So's the transmission. Date that I entered into this complaint is the most recent occurance. Certainly not the only. I think this is a defective part and Ford should replace it with a unit that works properly all the time.

7 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2004 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 06/05/2004

While shifting gears the vehicle jerked and vibrated uncontrollably. The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pulled over. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. However, mechanic could not duplicate the problem at this time. Blemish in rear leater seats. Engine stalls out and occasions surges/hesitates. Very hard 1-2 shift and transmission hunts 4-5 shift. No problem found. Transmission was upgraded for 2004 Ls to syncro type, which accounts for a crisp 1-2 shift. Under load going up hills vehicle will buck/loses power on acceleration. Powertrain control module (pcm) upgraded. Right side visor inoperative and replaced. Left front sill panel popped off. Sill panel reattached. Cigarette lighter inoperative and replaced. When steping on gas vehicle hesitates then takes off. No problem found. Traction control and abs lamps were on. Left front abs sensor replaced.

8 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2000 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 04/01/2004

While driving my 2000 Lincoln Ls the transmission tends to shift on it's own from high to to low gear and back to high gear thus causing a stall. This situation can happen at any time, while driving on the interstate at 65 mph it well shift back and forth and cause the vehicle to hesitate and then stall. When there is a tractor trail rig behind you at 65 or 70 mph you know what will happen. Being a trained vehicle operator to drive under very advers condictions I can handle the situation, on most times, but there are situations that even the best drivers can not handle. The dealership keeps telling me that it is an air flow problem to with the sensor but I say it is a major safety issue and the dealer should report it to thier headquarters and repair the problem for free.

9 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2003 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 07/15/2003

Just purchased 03 Lincoln Ls v-8 sport three weeks ago, already into service. The tranny is slow on up and down shifts. The service dept. ( neil Lincoln Mercury @ 1900 rt 112 medford NY) said this was a known problem on my initial call, just bring it in and they will reprogram the tranny should solve the problem. My second complaint is I noticed an excessive amount of uncomfortalbe heat underneath the driver side dash while driving, I suspect this is due to the lack of an insulated cover. This cover I come to find out was in the 2000, 2001, 2002, model years. Unfortunately some genuis decided to forget it. That's a problem, as it is not just a little warm, but really hot, I can't imagine my complaint was the first for this, as none of the 03's are equiped with this protective cover. The Lincoln support customer service has advised me I must talk with service, as this is not a part on the 03, and service tells me to speak to Lincoln, as this is a valid complaint. What the heck am I suppose to do? OH and back to the tranny what if it decides to just go to mush while I'm crossing an intersection. To late to say sorry then! I've heard that the 30,000 mile tranny tune up will often solve this tranny issue, can I make them service it now I've got 1,500 logged to date. Thank you for the assistance, it is very much appreciated, sorry for the long message. Brian.
