36 Steering problem of the 2013 Lincoln MKS

Failure Date: 02/06/2023

Power steering unavailable total fault at 140,000 miles. Warning came on that power steering assist was not available. Starting at 64000 miles this error would happen and it would clear by restarting the car, or disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and restarting the car. This time it did not clear, and manual steering without power assist is unsafe and difficult. Nhtsa recall 15v340 000 document states all 2013 Lincoln Mks but my VIN is not coming up in oasis for Ford/Lincoln recall #15s18. Marina Ford in CA diagnosed this is the steering gear sensor fault same as other vehicles with this recall but my VIN does not qualify. Vins in this range are not sequential and documentation says all 2013 Lincoln Mks are affected but my repair is denied due to VIN not being included. Requesting adding my VIN to the recall as this is a $3700 repair not covered according to oasis. Sadly, the gear sensor does is not able to be replaced by itself and the entire gear/steering rack has to be replaced to fix the sensor fault according to marina Ford (los angeles) service advisor/manager. Without power steering on this vehicle, some safety features are disabled and car cannot make evasive turns. When the last fault occured I nearly caused an accident as I crossed a double yellow line into oncoming traffic before I could manually correct the position.

40 Steering problem of the 2010 Lincoln MKS

Failure Date: 08/26/2022

My car will intermittently (more times than not) lose its power steering assist, making it almost impossible for me to drive. I've had the car looked at, replaced the rack and pinion assembly, put on new tires, ran a diagnostic, and the car still lacks power steering most of the time. When starting the vehicle, the wheel will lock up, and the message "power steering assist fault" displays, no matter how many times I try to restart the car and allow the computer to reset, the fault does not go away. I rarely have times when I can drive with a power steering assist. The car has become a serious problem because I cannot get to work or school safely; when driving the other day, the power steering went out, and I was almost in an accident. I believe that there is a defect in the 2010 Mks, just like there was with the other years that were recalled, the fact that this issue has cost me so much money (and I cannot get out from under the car, I would if I could), and still puts me at risk for serious injury is seriously concerning.

Failure Date: 02/10/2022

I was driving down the street when all of a sudden my Lincoln beeps at me. It says “service advancetrac” and “steering assist fault”. I lost all steering to my car and it swerved across four lanes of oncoming traffic until I crashed into a curb. This car almost killed me and multiple other people. The car has 79k miles on it. This should not be happening. There is a recall on 2012-2013 Mks models but not a 2014. There is very clearly something wrong with this system across multiple years. I cannot steer the car manually without straining myself. The electronic power steering has problems across every year. Not just 2013!.

50 Steering problem of the 2011 Lincoln MKS

Failure Date: 11/08/2021

In 2015 a recall was done to repair the power steering failure issue. In October of 2021, while driving the vehicle down the highway, the power steering went out making the vehicle almost impossible to steer. Had the vehicle towed to the dealership where they verified the issue and pulled code u3000 for steering gear failure. With 68827 miles, I was charged for the entire repair with not one mention about the extension to the power steering recall. The parts and labor that were charged were those mentioned in the recall. Fast forward to November 2022, had the vehicle towed to the same dealership for the same issue. Lights on the dash were present, and concern verified that the power steering was completely inoperative. No communication with the unit told me that the power steering control needed to be replaced. Again there was no mention or advocating involving the power steering recall that involved this exact issue. This time was told that they installed a part that was used in the previous repair so again I had to pay the entire cost. Currently, there are no issues with the vehicle but I have been looking to sell it because I have not driven it much due to the cost of these repairs. It was during my research to sell that I came across all the recall information on my vehicle and do not understand why all of these costs were not covered and why the dealership did nothing to advocate for me.

68 Steering problem of the 2013 Lincoln MKS

Failure Date: 12/11/2019

I started the engine, I had no power steering, power steering fault lit up on the dash. Shut off car, restarted engine, power steering was restored. If this failure occurs while driving down the road, the car is near impossible to steer. I looked up recalls on this vehicle, there is one for cars produced 9 months before mine, but mine is not included in this recall. The symptoms are identical, I suspect this car should be subjected to the recall as well.

69 Steering problem of the 2013 Lincoln MKS

Failure Date: 11/16/2019

Car was parked when I started it up. I got a steering assist fault message. Guess it's a common problem with Ford's epas. They should be held accountable like takata because of the huge safety risk. According to Ford my VIN isn't part of the recall for the same model and year. Ridiculous.

70 Steering problem of the 2010 Lincoln MKS

Failure Date: 11/09/2019

While driving, on rt. 264 the epas steering turned off without warning. My wife had to fight to get the vehicle to the side of the road. The effort to turn the steering wheel was so great that I had to take over from my wife. It took all my effort to turn the steering wheel, it was so stiff. I took the vehicle to the dealer today and had it checked out. They reported that it was caused by low tire pressure. There were no warnings from the tpms. I was told that, in the case of a reoccurrance, that simply inflating the tires would not suffice, but that the system would need to be reset by a Ford diagnostic computer.
