Steering Problems of Lincoln MKT - part 2

On April 30, 2021 as I was driving down the road my steering wheel suddenly starting turning left to right involuntarily causing me to lose control of my car and crash. My vehicle is a total loss and I had just paid heavty deposit and financed a Lincoln Mkt with a dealership that never disclosed to me that my vehicle I just purchased had a recall on it that had been issued last year. Now I am out of my deposit, no car, criminal charges for causing an accident that I could not control, and a company that was well aware of the recall gets all their money plus some and I'm the one in the wrong. Doesn't seem right does it? unfortuntly, the claims adjuster that inspected the vehicle to give an estimate failed to check the rear of the vehicle since all damage was in the front and driver side. I informed my insurance rep of the recall and have sent information on the recall along with the crash report of the incident. I do not recall seeing any warning lamps before this incident but I did feel that something was strange with the cars manuvering ability when accelrating or attempting to pass. It would kind of suddenly start a short of shimming of the vehicle that I have never experienced before in other vehicles driven previous to this one. Those signs were first noticed the second day after purchasing the car and two weeks later the incident occured.

Was driving under 35mph and suddenly alarm warning sign came on and steering got too hard to turn. I struggled to turn left with a lot force. Steering system adult, lane keeping system serve required all came on.

I received a recall letter from Lincoln in early 2020 for a recall on rear suspension tow links. I called the dealer and they said the parts are not available and will have them at the end of the year. I called them in October and they still saying no parts, yet the I called the parts department and they have the parts available if you wana buy it yourself. I drive this car in limousine service and this is such a safety concern not only for me but for the passenger sitting in the back. The customer service at Ford dealerships sucks.

The electric power assist has failed. The automatic climate control will automatically accelerate to high heat. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.

The contact owns a 2013 Lincoln Mkt. The contact stated that the steering locked up while driving and the vehicle lost control and ran into a sign. The sign was on the other side of the road. The front bumper was torn off, the fender was bent and the rearview on the driver's side was also torn off. There were no injuries. The contact not sure if a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home and then taken to the dealer deacon jones Ford (3301 mclain st, goldsboro, nc 27534 919-736-3387) they said the steering gear assembly had to replaced at a cost of $2,300. . The manufacturer stated that there was no recall for that issue and referred him to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 119,000.

At certain of driving or stationary the power steering just quits working and the vehicle is extremely hard to steer. It is almost impossible to pull over to safety. This has happened on numerous occasions.

I was driving east on rte. 95 in the bronx, NY on wed. Feb, 19, 2020 at approx. 10:15 am. I was in the middle lane of a 3 lane highway, the car is equiped with gps and it shows I was driving at 53 mph. All of a sudden the vehicle turned left into the jersey barrier bounced off and up and turned 180 degrees and drove across all 3 lanes. Luckily no other car was involved. All air bags deployed except steering wheel and dashboard. The drivers' side front of vehicle was smashed. The rear axle turned towards the drivers side.

Power steering stop working and error code "power steering assist fault" is displayed.

While making a left turn on a bridge the steering wheel became unable to turn. During left turns the steering is often very difficult to steer.

I purchased the car used a month ago. Today is the second day that after starting the car the dash displayed a power steering fault message. Sure enough I can barely steer the car. Each time I turned the car off, waited 30 seconds, turned the car back on and the problem went away.

Although the warning was displayed, I was not aware that my car only had an electronic power steering. This type of issue is one that can truly cause a serious accident should one is driving when their power steering go out. The power steering on this car stops more than just your steering wheel and I for one think that there needs to be a recall. It's a good thing that I was parked and glad because my daughter was with me.

Purchased vehicle used with 103,000 miles in August 2020. From the start the car did not feel right. I was hearing a light knocking noise going over uneven roads. The wheel felt slightly unsteady brought to 2 mechanics and neither could determine a problem. Now 6 months later I have gotten 2 wheel alignments, going on my third. Brand new tires in November are almost destroyed. At this time I am terrified the car will loose steering function. The suspension feels horrible, car has very loose feeling when turning or going on uneven roads. Knocking noise is still present but now with a grinding noise while going under 30 turning either direction, reverse, forward doesn't matter. While driving the wheel feels like it has no control at times. Everything is heard and felt in the front end.

Twice I have received the message �power steering fault� when starting my car. When this happens the steering wheel will not move or is hard to move. Luckily I haven't been driving down the highway when this has happened. I have seen recalls for other vehicles regarding this issue.

The dealer stated that the vehicle exceeded the mileage requirement for the recall; therefore, the contact would have to pay out of pocket to have the vehicle diagnosed and repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was 3,000 miles over the recall warranty deadline. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 153,600.

Periodically getting "power steering assist fault" and the epas electric power steering quits working. Apparently there was a recall for this exact issue, but it only included 2011-2012 Lincoln Mkt/mks and Ford flex when it should have also included 2010 models. So far it has only happened when the vehicle is first started (stationary) and we've been able to get it to work again by shutting off the vehicle and restarting.

The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 215,090.

The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15340000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 131,500.

The contact stated that the same failure occurred four times in the same day. The vehicle was taken to autonation Ford margate (5401 w copans rd, margate, FL 33063) where it was diagnosed that the steering gear needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v34000 (steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 130,150. The VIN was unknown.

Was driving to work and the old sistem shut down with out warning maintenance almost hit two cars begging me just the time to stop mi car turn engine off and on I just feel insecure I use this car to do uber and lift how I can work like this when I take look on internet found this page and lot complain like this to Ford company.

"power steering assist fault" light comes on and power steering locks up or becomes very difficult to steer. I barely avoided an accident. I had to stop the car in traffic because I couldn't steer the car. I found I could barely steer the car with great effort and was able to drive car to side of road. This very same issue appears to be across many Ford/Lincoln 2010-2013 models. There was a recall for apparently the exact issue in 2015 (included 2011-2013 Lincoln Mkt) but not the 2010 which I have. My car is experiencing the exact issue. A quick research online shows that this problem is experienced by many Ford/Lincoln cars sharing the same "electronic power steering assist" system. Vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist.

The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph the warning message power assist fault suddenly displayed and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. The contact notified a local dealer (name unknown) who confirmed no recalls related to the power steering were outstanding for the VIN. The failure was not yet diagnosed or repaired. This vehicle is a rental from budget. On 11/10 - 11/11/17, driving from ft myers, FL to knoxville, TN, on I-75, at highway speeds of 55-80 mph, while changing lanes, vehicle would start to steer smoothly either to left or right, and then suddenly the vehicle would surge (dart) more to left or right. To me it acted like if turning left, the left wheel suddenly encountered some drag, like in mud or sand and same for right turning, the right front wheel acted as if it hit something to cause drag or resistance which would make the vehicle act like it was over-steering. Happened often. Makes driver feel some degree of loss of control.

"takata recall" I am reaching out to NHTSA for the second time do to a recall that was issue back on June 2, 2015 for 2011 Lincoln Mkt. The recall number is 15s18. A few weeks ago I had a message that came across my dashboard that read services power steering and 2 sec later it read services power steering now. As we speak my car is at the dealership and I had a diagnostic test done. The code that come up on the test was p07ae. After researching the code description it is the same the description that was identified in the recall. Lincoln is not trying to honor the recall because my VIN doesn`t show up.

Driving in the highway the power steering got stock & almost loose control and I put over them the stering became hard to turn.

I was driving along and all of a sudden my power sterring went out, almost had a accident.

Sudden loss of steering assist. Messages appeared to "service advancetrack" and "service steering". Two incidences within 3 days. Both times the vehicle was in motion, once on an exit ramp and once on a state highway. Near loss of control due to the extremely difficult manual steering mode that resulted. Very unnerving and dangerous to suddenly lose steering while on the highway. Fortunately I was strong enough to maintain vehicle control. My wife may not have been so fortunate.

2010 Lincoln Mkt- we were traveling home on christmas eve 2015 in goffstown, nh when suddenly out of nowhere as we were turning a corner the steering wheel tightened up and just about locked into place in the turn. We had just got off the highway returning from my in-laws from 40 miles away. Luckily there was nobody in that intersection because I was clearly on the wrong side of the road after this happened and nearly missed going into the ditch. The time of day was also a blessing in disguise because it was just about midnight and we were almost home so the kids could open some gifts. I looked down at the dashboard and the service power steering/service traction control light was flashing. A bit late to say the least. We stopped on the side of the road after correcting the steering wheel with 2 hands and sat for a minute. Another blessing was we were less than a mile to home when this actually happened and being the time of day, we decided to continue on very slowly driving with absolutely no power steering and 2 hands gripped to the wheel. I am a truck driver/equipment operator by trade and have always taught myself to expect the unexpected which this was. My wife was going to drive home originally and I said I would and I am so glad I did because this may have had a different outcome especially if it happened at another time and place. The car is in our driveway as I make this complaint on christmas day and will be being towed to a dealer tomorrow. After doing some research online, I came across the other complaints with different years covered and now know there is a problem with other years and models with the pscm (power steering control module). Ford has a current recall (15s18) with the same problem listed. I am hoping that the investigation reopens a new recall for expanded years of these Mkt models and possibly others before someone gets killed.
