37 Power Train problem of the 2015 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 04/17/2019

Car stalls and looses power in 5-10 seconds while driving. Once stopped, the car will restart and drive. The problem indicator "yellow wrench" tells the dealership nothing relating to the problem. This problem is life threatening because it often happens while traveling at high rates of speed (interstates) in environments with lots of traffic. Since the car begins immediate deceleration, getting to safety without getting into an accident in these circumstances, is frightening at best. On wed, 4/17/19, I was traveling on I-40, 5 lanes of traffic at 5:05 p. M. (I was in the leftmost lane) and my car stalled. By the time I got to the 2nd lane from the shoulder, I had almost been hit by a speeding car and an 18-wheeler. I was not able to get any momentum to get off the road quickly because the car had no power. This is a life threatening problem!!! I found many reports of the same thing occurring in Lincoln Mkx's (predominantly 2016's) that relate to a defective electronic throttle body, need for updated software, and/or the purge body. Lincoln indicates they cannot/will not fix this issue because they can't get a maintenance code to confirm the diagnosis. This situation could easily cost lives unnecessarily!! my reports of this issue are not being taken seriously (dealership & Lincoln Ford motor company). Since there is no recall associated to my VIN, they attest there is no issue unless I can provide it. I can't prove it because I never know when it will happen. They have kept my car for a week and drive but couldn't replicate. There needs to something much more aggressive that is mandated to be done before lives are lost. It is my hope you will be able to assist. Thank you.

46 Power Train problem of the 2011 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 07/13/2018

My 2011 Lincoln Mkx has a blown head gasket. One week prior to this diagnosis, my car was evaluated and diagnosed by the Lincoln dealership because of an engine light being on. There were no symptoms--only the light was on when the car was on. I had the oil changed by the dealership at this time as well. The diagnosis stated that no problem could be found, but that the light may come back on, and I would need to bring it back for (and pay for) another diagnostic check. The next day, the light came back on, still with no symptoms other than the light being on. I wasn't able to get the Lincoln to the dealership right away. Exactly one week later, still with no symptoms other than the light being on, I drove the Lincoln on a highway close to my home for 5 minutes and it began struggling like it was going to stall. Immediately the light "low engine oil pressure" came on. Then immediately the car stalled, and I coasted onto the shoulder of the road. There were no other symptoms other than the struggling engine immediately before stalling and the "low engine oil pressure light". I had it towed to the nearest 5-star rated auto repair place, and within a few hours, they called me and diagnosed the Lincoln with a blown head gasket. The lead mechanic stated that this was determined by visual inspection of the oil as it had engine coolant mixed with oil. He called it the "classic milkshake look" that is apparent when there is a blown head gasket.

49 Power Train problem of the 2012 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 11/16/2017

While driving on a city street, vehicle did not respond to the accelator- no power to the vehicle and a "wrench" appeared on the dash board. Power train problem. Take vehicle immediately to your Lincoln dealer. The car stopped and I was able to pull over. It seemed to be choking then stopped. Towed it to dealer - they ran diagnostic tests and found "nothing wrong with it". Two weeks later same thing happened. Fortunately I was on a city street again and able to move over. Had this happened n the freeway I am sure there would have been a major accident. Dealer again could find nothing again. Apparently the diagnostic tests are not effective. They recommended replacing the "throttle". That "might" be the problem. I am now very uncomfortable driving this vehicle and stay always in the right lane just in case it decides to die again. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle now. Apparently Lincoln expects an owner to keep replacing parts - even though they might not be defective - and hope eventually the correct part is replaced. I am wondering about all the electronic "progress" we have supposedly made, why defective parts cannot be accurately detected. Way too much unnecessary functions on vehicles - creating too many chances for electrical errors. Where does it end? the car has only 37,000 miles on it and was very reliable - until now- now it is out of warranty - each replacement part, I am sure, will be costly - this is going to be a guessing game from now on.

50 Power Train problem of the 2012 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 11/12/2017

When shifting into "park" there is a warning that appears on the dash as "shift to park". The "p" indicator light will not illuminate and does not engage safety features associated with placing the vehicle in "park". This also causes the display to stay on and drains the battery if not corrected. This is a known issue addressed on TSB 15-0047 but should be a safety recall as it could lead to a stranded motorist.

Failure Date: 08/24/2017

The contact owns a 2017 Lincoln Mkx. The contact stated that the vehicle was designed to have a tow mode, which would allow the vehicle to tow. While the 39,000 lbs vehicle was towing a 50,000 lbs RV, the vehicle's battery failed. The vehicle was designed to go into park mode, which locked all four tires when the battery failed. Once the vehicle went into park mode, it caused the vehicle to be dragged by the RV for several miles. The contact stated that the park mode feature should not occur since the vehicle was in neutral when in tow mode. The contact called camelback Ford (1330 e camelback road, phoenix, az 85014; 602-635-7551) and was informed that the vehicle functioned as expected according to the design of the feature. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue, but the contact did not receive a response. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.

54 Power Train problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 07/01/2017

My 2008 Lincoln Mkx starts cutting out and chugging at the speed of 45 mph you have to give it gas to get it up over 50ish to come out of it. It will do again at time out on the interstate around the speed of 60 mph but at this time the abs and skid light come on. I'm afraid with having my granddaughters in the car that something bad will happen when I'm out on the road with them. I have taken it to the Ford dealership and they want an arm and a leg and will not just give a suggestion or advice, the transmission shop put a machine on it but can't detect any certain cause.

60 Power Train problem of the 2007 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 03/15/2017

I recently submitted a letter to Ford/Lincoln company as well as the NHTSA dated 9/11/19. I reached out to Lincoln/Ford company last week in regards to stated letter and the error codes of p0356 and p1299, which has to what I have been told by (2) different care repair shops that these are common error in Ford edge and Lincoln Mkx. These codes are related to the pcu module and the ignition coils not be read by the pcu module. I took the liberty of researching and I just went back to 2013 and found that over 100 other consumers have the same issue. I repaired mine twice already and its still an issue because of the pcu module , which is priced at over $800 alone. I was conversing with lisa relaford, who is the concierge service manager at Lincoln client relationship center, who basically stated that if the car is not under warranty that they can not assist with any financial assistance,. Which is clearly a lie. I have recently had a recall on my airbag and a fuel pump via Lincoln, at that time my truck was not under warranty, but they were replaced. So, that is clearly a contradiction. This is obviously a faulty part that over hundred of people have had and I am inquiring as to why it was never recalled or the part replaced. I have changed my ignition coils twice , which cost about $80 each ($160) and the idirium spark plugs that are required for my truck which cost about $20 each ($40). I would thibnk that someone, while driving whose truck loses power on the highway, ususally going at about 60 mph, is a major concern and in some ways life threating. Which is exactly what happened to me . This matter is of high importance and needs to be addressed. Please refer to the letter that was submitted in September by me and get back to me with an answer , as soon as possible because once again my truck is not driveable.

66 Power Train problem of the 2014 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

2014 Lincoln Mkx. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle moves when gear shifter in park position, power lift gate sporadically opens/rises, carbon monoxide odors inside vehicle. The consumer stated a light illuminated that indicated the vehicle was not in park, when the consumer moved the gear to park. The consumer stated he shook the gear shift a little and the light went out. A few days later, before he could raise the hatch, the vehicle started rolling backwards into the street. The consumer managed to get in the vehicle, and once again a light was on, indicating the vehicle was not in park, despite him placing the vehicle in park. Also, the passenger side mirror would sporadically go all the way up while driving, which made the entire right side of the vehicle a blind spot. After a year and a half of complaints, the dealer inspected the mirror and determined it was defective and replaced it. The rear hatch would sporadically open, and rise when the vehicle was parked or being driven. The consumer stated intermittently, a light would illuminate on the vehicle, saying a key was not detected exhaust fumes entered the vehicle while driving at times.

67 Power Train problem of the 2016 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 06/07/2016

The car has stalled 6 or 7 times when attempting to park. The dealership seems to have fixed that problem. A more serious problem occurred on June 7 while we were on vacation in new orleans la. Driving down a busy street, I slowed for traffic and the engine quit. I was able to move to the right and avoid an accident. Restarted car and continued driving. As you may expect, my wife is very concerned that this may happen again and she or I will not have time to get out of the way of approaching traffic. My daughter did some research and found this site that lists many similar complaints with other Ford> suggest you check out the website. . Read more...

68 Power Train problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 04/30/2016

Odo error. Wrench and airbag lights on. Transmission would barely move car, even when revving engine. Stopped on highway in traffic. Turned engine on/off several times then odo worked, but transmission banged really hard, then engaged normally, and ran normally. Happened 2 more times in two weeks. With just 200,000 miles, the ptu leaked and was replaced by dealer. After one week, the odo error firs t occurred. I believe that the ptu replacement might have caused this problem!.

69 Power Train problem of the 2014 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 03/16/2016

1st tracking number 10849876 - advance service tract (provided to dealership for repair) on 3/16/2016, contacted 24 hr dealership to retrieve SUV. In addition to the service tract failure (indicator light showing 2 cars), now have multiple problems. Problems consist cross service system fault, vehicles rolls forward & backward after stopping, and a big clunk when putting in a gear. Spoke with the (a) gm of the dealership and informed him vehicle was in for the service tract failure on 2/8/2016 and now I have the same problem and additional problem. I was on a city street when the advance service tract immediately lit up with 2 indicators on the right side of the steering wheel. Attempted to make a right turn and the cross service system fault light appeared with a tool like object on the left side of the steering wheel. While attempting to make a right turn, the car did not want to go forward, barely moving and a tiny hill to pull was impossible. I immediately start detouring away from major city street because I had not idea what was happening and I needed to get home with a senior citizen over 80 with me. The SUV had difficulty moving forward. For a 2014 Lincoln Mkx, I was informed that I had a transmission problem and apparently a call was made to the hot line to fix the advance service tract and the cross service system fault. My concern, is the 2014 Mkx a Lincoln lemon? received SUV back on 3/18/2016.

70 Power Train problem of the 2007 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 02/11/2016

My 2007 Lincoln Mkx awd is making a howling/buzzing noise as I accelerate past about 35 mph and gets louder as I accelerate. Also at times as I'm waiting traffic signal lights I sometimes smell a propane/gas odor. Took my vehicle to 2 repair shops and both determined the noise/problem is the power transfer unit. The cause of the odor was not known. Work on the ptu is going to cost between $1800 - $2100. But the part will most likely be on back order. So I'm assuming this is a common problem. . Or a manufacturer defect.
