36 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

Air pressure issues on 3 of my tires. The rim’s chrome plating is flaking off, and tires consistently lose air pressure. I contacted my dealer, but not a warranty issue. I purchased this auto new and it has always has been garaged. I do live in the boston area so do have extreme weather. This is a quality issue and a driving hazard. A recall should be issued to remedy this situation.

The car was pulled into a parking space (space in front of a canal) and pushed buttoned into park and the car then lurched forward, going into the canal (front half only, the back half was stopped by the sea wall). We see there was a recall for the same problem for 2013 Lincoln Mkz hybrids (ours is not a hybrid).

38 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

After getting a low tire pressure warning, I went to tire store and they showed me the corrosion to the chrome and explained how it will affect the tire and the wheel. I was notified that I am going to constantly have issues with low tire pressure unless I replace the wheels.

39 Wheel problem of the 2013 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

Original owner of 2013 Lincoln Mkz discovered on 6/27/14 at 15896 miles a bulge on the sidewall of the right rear p245/40 r19 pirelli pzero nero tire. Same owner/vehicle on 4/2/15 at 27600 miles another bulge on the sidewall of the left front tire. Each tire was immediately replaced at owners expense prior to catastrophic failure. The tires did not strike a curb or experience any unusual or harsh roads. The owner was not informed by the tire store of this safercar form and action, hence the delay of this entry.

Standard wheels are 18". I had 19" factory installed wheels. There is a full size spare available which did not come with the car.

44 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

The chrome rims on our 2008 Lincoln Mkz began flaking and corroding. This problem did not begin until after the original tires were replaced in 2013. Originally the problem occured in the colder months, requiring refills every 4 weeks. Now the problem is occuring in the warmer months and more frequently. Rapid deflations have left a tire completely flat on several occasions. The issue is known as this database shows. Ford refuses to acknowledge and address.

45 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 02/28/2014

Chrome plating is flaking off, and tires consistently lose air pressure. I contacted ray price Ford in stroudsburg, PA and they said this sometimes happens, but not a warranty issue. I contacted my tire person and he tried to brush off the excess chrome around seal to get a bead, but no luck. A new wheel is around $400, so I got a used one. Similar issues, but not as frequent. However, other wheels are beginning to have the same issue (losing air pressure). A set of new wheels would be over $1500, which is not a viable option. Very disappointed with a 'high quality' manufacturer (Lincoln).

46 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

The wheels on my 2008 Lincoln Mkz are corroding to the point that the tires are loosing air. I have had to have the tires taken off the wheels several times and cleaned the rim only to have it continue to corrode and leak air again. It is ruining my tires and it is a safety hazard not knowing how quickly the tires will go flat. My Mkz has only 48,000 miles and has been properly maintained. I have tried to deal with Lincoln, but they are no help. I love my Mkz but am very disappointed with Lincoln.

47 Wheel problem of the 2007 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 02/18/2014

I had my 2007 Lincoln Mkz since 2013 and I always had problems with my factory wheels that I brought from a dealership which wasn't even on the carfax when I bought nor the salesman did not say anything about the rims having a problem poking whole in all 4 tires. Every 5 days, every 5 days I have to go pump my tires up so they will not bust. I first noticed this problem when I had the zepher, same make. I was out with who is my wife now, front driver side rim shredded my tire. We could have been killed or seriously injured. And im still today still having this same !!frustrating problem!! every 5days and I have to pay $135 a wheel that wasn't even my cause of doing nor on the carfax. !! my car should count just like every other car!! !!!and its not!!! my family and I want a !!!recall!!!.

48 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

Car was bougtht new in 2008 from local Ford/Lincoln dealer, dempewolf Ford, henderson, ky, and always garage kept and dealer serviced. Tires begain to loose air pressure several months ago. When examined by purcell tire, henderson, ky, they said that chrome was flaking off leaving a pitted surface and that bead would not seal against pitted surface. Car is equipt with optional chrome plated 17" wheels. Tires become seriously underinflated weekly. I have just had purcell apply bead sealer but they say it is probably not a long term fix. They say that only solution is new wheels.

49 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 07/30/2013

I have owned my Lincoln Mkz for 3 years. Almost immediately after I purchased the car the chrome on the wheels began to peel. Shortly after the pealing began the rims developed a small loss of air due to the corroding wheels requiring me to check the tire pressure at least once a week and fill at least two tires with air every week to achieve a safe level of operation. The dealer will do nothing to help resolve this problem other than to sell me very expensive replacement wheels. After three years the problem has become significantly worse causing me to fill my tires with air every time I drive it. The chrome on the wheels look awful with the peeling and sharp edges caused by the peeling chrome. Even the dealer is shocked Ford has not issued a recall or addressed this. This is a well know safety issue which Ford has refused to recognize. I have received a response for Ford (see attached) indicating they would not assist me with the repair. My concern is safety. This is a safety issue not only for me but for the general driving public. I hope you will address this issue with Ford before something significant happens and someone is seriously hurt.

50 Wheel problem of the 2007 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The vehicle start experiencing a roar coming from the front end. Took vehicle to dealer who advised that tires were our of balance and also needed an alignment. Alignment was done and wheels balanced. Did not solve problem. Took back to dealer who stated would need a new set of tires to correct situation. Advised dealer that tires were only 13 months old that I would take to tire store where tires were purchased. Tire dealer agreed to adjust tires and put a new set of four tires and balanced again. Noise still existed and started to get worse. Went back to auto dealer and explained new tires were put on. Dealer decided to pull front wheel assemblies to investigate further for problem. Both front wheels were found to have broken bearing seals and bearings were corroded, one roller bearing was missing as well. New bearings installed and problem solved. First vehicle owned that has had bearing problems, particularly at 62,000 miles. Owned vehicles in the past with over 200,000 miles and never had to have bearings replaced.

51 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 11/14/2012

I purchased a 2008 Lincoln Mkz with 15998 miles on the odometer in July 2012 from a dealer. Shortly after winter began the wheels starting to bubble and peel. They are now starting to fall apart. It is causing issues with vibration while driving and air loss in the tires. I have seen numerous complaints about these wheels but Lincoln/Ford will not stand behind them because my car is 5 years old even though it is still under 30k miles.

52 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 06/28/2012

Tire wheel rims have chrome lifting off resulting in low tire pressure. Lost 10 percent tire pressure in 30 days.

53 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 05/17/2012

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Lincoln Mkz. The contact stated that the chrome on all four wheels was flaking off and as a result the aluminum was causing lack of tire pressure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated there was no recall and offered no assistance. The manufacturer was notified who referred him to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who sealed the rims as a temporary remedy. The failure mileage was 41,800. Pmb.

54 Wheel problem of the 2007 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Lincoln Mkz. The contact stated that the air pressure in the tires was extremely low and she would have to constantly add air to the tires. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised her that the chrome hub caps were pinching the tires, causing air to seep out. The vehicle was repaired by replacing all four tires. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000. The current mileage was approximately 40,000. The VIN was unavailable.

55 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 03/15/2012

The low tire pressure sensor warning light came up as we pulled away from the dealership and never quit lighting up, regardless of the number of times we took the car to dealers to have the issue fixed. The car was purchased as used, with 43,000 miles in March 2012. Apparently, the mechanics at irwin Lincoln dealership in NJ are clueless, and the only remedy seems to be the purchase of new wheels, at a cost of roughly $2,000. Otherwise, the car is in great shape, but the sensor problem is extremely annoying.

56 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 01/11/2012

When I purchased my 2008 Lincoln awd Mkz, new tires were part of the "deal". From the very beginning one tire (drivers side rear) was losing air. I went back to the dealer and they couldn't determine the problem. I have been back and forth to the dealer constantly ever since the purchase of my Mkz. At one point the dealer sent me to an independent tire company. They looked at the tire in question and I was told that the tire will not "bead" to the rim because of the flaking of the chrome on the rim. They did put a sealant on the areas but it was a temporary fix. Now I'm having a problem with the drivers side front wheel losing air. When the weather is cooler, the air leak is slower, during warm weather, the loss is faster. In the past two weeks I have had air added to the tires at least once each week. With all the complaints about the wheels/rims that are posted, what, if anything, will Ford/Lincoln do about the problem? I'm proud of my Lincoln and with all the commercials about Ford standing behind their vehicles why are we still having a problem?.

57 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Lincoln Mkz. The contact stated that air was continuously leaking from the all four tires causing the tire pressuring monitoring system to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the inner edge of the chrome wheels had began to detiorate and pieces of chrome had chipped off causing air to leak from the tires. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 26,000. Jft.

58 Wheel problem of the 2007 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 09/19/2011

I own a 2007 Lincoln Mkz. The wheels on the vehicle are totally delaminating and corroding. It has gotten so bad the rims will not hold the tires. We have had one tire go flat because it lost its seal and the other tire came completely off the rim at 65 mph.

59 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Lincoln Mkz. While driving unknown speeds, the rims shook. The contact called summerville Ford (9700 dorchester rd, summerville, SC 29485). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (palmetto Ford, 1625 savannah hwy, charleston, SC) where it was determined that the tires needed to be filled with nitrogen. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was 24,000.

60 Wheel problem of the 2007 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 08/02/2011

While leaving work for the day I noticed I had a flat tire. I've had several since purchasing this vehicle in January 2010. I spent $800. 00 purchasing new tires and I have gotten several flat tires after this. I was told by the place who sold me the tires that my rims were corroded and that this was common with this make and model. I've gotten 2 flat tires since and I've spent $200. 00 more dollars replacing tires. I have spent a total of $1000. 00 on tires because of this problem. I took my car to the Lincoln dealer who told me that I could spend $1,500 on a new set of rims which is ludicrous. Ford/Lincoln should replace all rims for free as a goodwill considering they know that this is a problem. I even had them shaved down and cleaned and my tires are still loosing air pressure as of today.

61 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

After spending over 3,500$ on noises while turning and having replaced the tires because the tire was constantly going flat the 17" 8 spoke machined & painted aluminum wheel began to corrode and peel. Two of the tires leaked air around the contact of the rim and tire because of the corrosion. This condition requires having the wheel taken apart and corrosion removed then reassembling the wheel and re-balancing the tire assembly before re-installing back on to car. I have averaged servicing these tires from once a week to once a month depending on the time of year for the last three years and have had to purchase more tires in order compensate for the ware on the tire when having to drive with under inflated tires while trying to safely navigate to the nearest air pump sometimes on a daily basis! the car dealer is aware. This is a safety violation!! the out of pocket cost to continuously have these tires replaced, repaired. The poor gas mileage has brought the actual cost of this car upwards of 43,000. 00:(.

62 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

These wheels are identified as 17" 8 spoke machined & painted aluminum wheel which began to corrode and peel around 2011. They leak air around the contact of the rim and tire because of the corrosion. This condition requires having the wheel taken apart and corrosion removed then reassembling the wheel and re-balancing the tire assembly before re-installing back on to car. Depending on several conditions as climate and temperature and when tire assembly last serviced air loss varies from 10% to more than 30% from manufacturer 's suggested tire inflation pressure. I have averaged servicing these four tires at least 6 times or more a year for the last three years. I have contacted both the car dealer and Ford motor CO. The dealer says it is up to Ford to put out a recall for replacement wheel. The dealer agrees there is a problem, but Ford motor CO. Does not consider this a problem. I consider this condition a safety violation not to mention the out of pocket cost to continuously have these tires repaired. It affects my gas mileage, tire longevity, and most importantly safety. Please help those of us with this situation. Thank you.

63 Wheel problem of the 2007 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Lincoln Mkz. The contact stated that the chrome on the wheel was corroding. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop who pointed out the corrosion on the wheel that was causing the tires to go flat. The manufacturer was contacted but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not covered under the warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 45,000.

64 Wheel problem of the 2007 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 01/05/2011

Lincoln mk7 2007. Car has consistant slow tire leaks due to poor wheel and rim quality. This is evidenced by the large amounts of chrome that has flaked off the wheels. Both Ford and the dealerhsip refuse to do any thing to correct.

65 Wheel problem of the 2007 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 01/04/2011

The tires are always leaking air and the rims are the cause of it. The rims have hairline cracks in them. I have purchased several tires on the count of the poor quality of the rims.

66 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 12/16/2010

The chrome coating on the wheels is defective and flakes off. This does not allow the tires to seat properly with the wheels, causing them to lose pressure. Eventually this can damage the tires by having them repeatedly driven under the recommended pressures. Numerous attempts by my tire dealer to remedy the situation, under their warranty, have been frustrating as the issue is not of their making. I have researched this issue on a number of Lincoln Mkz forums and this is a common complaint among owners.

67 Wheel problem of the 2007 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 12/07/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Lincoln Mkz. The contact stated that the factory rims were corroding and causing the tires to loose air pressure in colder temperatures. The manufacturer advised the contact that the rims were not covered under warranty and provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 48,000 and the current mileage was 75,000.

68 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 11/22/2010

The chrome coating on the aluminum wheels started peeling and the air was let out of the tires. One tire had explosive decompression when the chrome peeled. If the vehicle had been traveling at even a moderate rate of speed the results could have been deadly. When the wheel loses air and sidewall integrity while moving the tire could just peel off the rim. I had to have the rim bead area sanded down to re seat the tire. The chrome continues to peel. This appears to be a common problem that Lincoln does not want to deal with.

69 Wheel problem of the 2007 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 03/31/2010

Vehicle was purchased used from a 3rd party in March 2010 with 46,000 miles and was under factory warranty. We discovered the wheels had chrome flaking badly soon after purchase, and rob sight Lincoln Mercury (now dba rob sight Ford) only agreed to replace two of the wheels under warranty claiming it was a cosmetic issue. Since the car had been purchased through another dealer, rob sight was hesitant to honor the warranty even on the two wheels they did replace. Subsequently, we have experienced at least10 flat tires on the remaining wheels, even after replacing all four tires. Clearly the original flaking issue is far more than cosmetic, it's a safety issue. At a cost of nearly $1,000 each to replace wheels, that has not been considered an acceptable alternative. We had the wheels rebuilt at a car wheel specialist in merriam, KS (hubcap & wheel) and while the bead seal failures improved for a period of time, additional corrosion has rendered the wheels inoperable. The car has less than 80,000 miles and the temptation is to sell it to someone else, with the hope that subsequent tire failures do not result in a fatality. There can be little doubt that most other 2007 Mkz owners unfortunate enough to own this vehicle, and having received the same treatment from Ford/Lincoln that we have, are tempted to do the same thing.

70 Wheel problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKZ

Failure Date: 02/05/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Lincoln Mkz. The contact stated that the rear drivers side rim was rusted to the point of corrosion causing damage to the rear drivers side tire. The contact mentioned that the tire constantly had to be inflated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the rim and the tire needed to be replaced. The tire and rim were replaced but the failure recurred. The contact stated that the other three rims had rust and corrosion. The contact stated that all four tires were replaced and that the three rims may also deteriorate. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
