The vehicle's antitheft system automatically triggers. There are two different events here: 1. Anti theft system triggers when the engine is off. When I attempt to start the car, the engine will not activate. By going through a series of locking and unlocking attempts (via key fob, via door locks, via keyless entry) I can eventually get the engine started. This event happens every other day. 2. Anti theft system triggers when the engine is on, while driving on the road. This results in the engine shutting off, and both the steering wheel and brake pedal locking up. I took the vehicle to a Lincoln dealer (dave sinclair Lincoln st. Louis) and after running diagnostics they suspect the root cause is due to an apple air tag that is attached to the key ring of the key I'm using, and the pats sensor module mounted to the bottom of the lock cylinder could be triggering/sensing a security event as a result. I do not think a reasonable resolution to prevent future issues is to not have an air tag (or similar device) in the vehicle. The anti theft system triggering when the engine off is an inconvenience. However, the anti theft system triggering while the car is in motion is a major safety hazard.

Catastrophic engine failure on 2020 Lincoln Navigator at 93,000 miles. Oil contamination in cylinder 6 caused complete compression loss due to piston ring failure. The engine suffers from failed cam phases and excessive carbon build up which are known failure points of this engine. Ford technical service bulletins 20-2423 and 23-2143 document this as a known manufacturing defect for vehicles in my build timeframe, proving Ford was aware of this problem before production. This is premature engine failure requiring complete engine replacement on a 5-year-old vehicle. The failure pattern matches ongoing class-action lawsuits against Ford for ecoboost engine defects. Safety concern: catastrophic engine failure without warning while driving creates risk of sudden loss of power and potential accidents. Lincoln customer service has admitted these vehicles have this issue but refused escalation despite documented manufacturing defect and broken multiple callback promises. Request NHTSA investigation into 2020 Lincoln Navigator 3. 5l ecoboost engines for premature piston ring/compression failures related to carbon buildup and failed cam phasers as documented in Ford's own service bulletins.

Purchased a 2019 Lincoln Navigator in 2024 used at a dealership in orange park florida. The vehicle was taken to the same dealership for an oil change, which is a Volkswagen dealership. I started to hear a loud shaking noise after starting it up. I took it to o’reilly‘s auto parts and had to put on a machine and I also took it to paul, clark Ford and yulee florida. I was told by both that it was the cam phaser. The vehicle was also leaking coolant, and now the engine has completely blown in the vehicle. It has been sitting at a Lincoln dealership for three weeks with a blown engine due to the cam phaser echt that was never addressed or corrected by Ford. The vehicle is just sitting. It’s now a boat anchor.

About 5 weeks ago, our Navigator's transmission had a mild slip, like it was accidentally put in neutral. Since there was no visible warning sign, check engine light, or clear indicator of transmission issues, we thought it may just be a fluke. Within weeks, the transmission slipping escalated from mild to extreme, causing major safety concerns. When in drive, it would struggle to accelerate, get stuck in the wrong gear, then overcompensate, violently jerking into the correct gear 20+ seconds after it should have. A few times, we narrowly avoided getting rear-ended or rear-ending others. Lincoln service confirmed the 10-speed automatic transmission in the 2019 Navigator is problematic and will likely need a full rebuild, yet there is no transmission recall. They also stated their service department was backed up 4-5 weeks due to transmission repairs. Over the last 2 weeks, we've had a full vehicle diagnostic and repair. The mechanic replaced both leaky transmission coolant lines and completely rebuilt the transmission. He confirmed the check engine light never activated and diagnostic trouble codes never generated. That is an extreme safety problem. According to Lincoln, with leaks and transmission slipping, dtcs should be generated, and check engine lights should come on, but it didn't happen in either case. Please investigate both the transmission failures and the trouble code generation!.
The contact owns a 2019 Lincoln Navigator. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the vehicle made an abnormal rattling sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the cam phasers had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the VIN was not included in Ford campaign number: 21n03. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Lincoln Navigator. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle lunged forward. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was shifting roughly. The contact stated that the vehicle would redline. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was determined that a transmission flush was needed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
No warning light on dash. Issues engaging in gears. SUV failed to shift in gear and engine rev up and takes 2 to 10 seconds to catch again before engine engages. No accidents yet. Additionally, during cold start my sub is making a rattling and ticking sound and the SUV would shake. There were no engine failure or warning lights that came on and the engine doesn’t sound like it’s running correctly.
My vehicle fits all criteria for csp 21b10 and csp 21n03. The vehicle has 75714 miles whereas 21n03 covers up to 79,999 on this vehicle. The cold start rattle is very bad and drivability due to cam phaser issues has caused the vehicle to be not drivable, at least not safely… this vehicle meets all criteria for the recall, and the issue (confirmed by dealer - at dealership now) is the cam phasers and this recall 21n03 is the repair and they are very surprised our VIN is not listed, citing all of these vehicles require cam phaser replacement to be operable. As this is a known issue with 2018-2020 Navigators with the 3. 5 this should be covered by the recall.
[xxx] Wednesday we were traveling from charlotte nc headed westbound on [xxx], a 6 or 8 lane highway, speed limit 70+ mph, when our 2021 Lincoln Navigator suddenly lurched and the engine completely failed. There weren't any warnings by the vehicle prior to the incident. There were two of us in the vehicle at the time, and we suddenly found ourselves in a situation of extreme risk. It was 4 - 5 pm during rush hour traffic. The driver was able to maintain composure and our tires continued rotating long enough to coast and cross over 3 fast moving lanes to get us slightly off the side of the highway. It was a very frightening and unsafe situation, not only during but after the engine failure, as we were on a very busy, noisy highway not knowing where we were or what to do. We live in ohio and our plans were scheduled only for 8/25/24 (leave ohio)-8/29/24 (return to ohio). Our Lincoln was towed the night of the engine failure to classic Ford Lincoln in shelby nc, and it's been there for 7 days. The tow driver could not start the engine. He had difficulty (20 minutes trying) getting it into neutral so he could put it on the flatbed. The total engine failure problem isn't yet diagnosed. Classic is the only one to examine it. We had to extend our nc hotel stay for two days waiting for the vehicle to be repaired. On 8/31 we couldn't wait any longer and had to rent a vehicle from enterprise to return home; leaving our Navigator in nc. Lincoln roadside assistance has been very difficult and inattentive to our dire circumstances. We're now faced with a situation of not having our vehicle, not having a diagnosis, and concerns about whether the vehicle will be dependable when/if it's returned to us. We have to travel often and fear Lincoln could leave us in bad circumstances again even if they can find the current problem and repair it. It seems to be something extraordinary or uncommon or a diagnosis would have happened by now. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia),.

The engine rattles and knocks with cold start. In reviewing online, this is a very common problem. The dealership told me their service lot is full of Navigators needing to have cam? replaced. The internet confirms mechanics frustrated with spending their entire day replacing the same parts. This issue is listed on your site, but it is not a recalled item. I would suggest auditing how many of these repairs Lincoln is actually doing. I was initially told the repair cost should range between $1,000-$2,500, but after my vehicle waiting over a month in their service lot, they told me the repair cost would be $4,500. To have an issue this common on a car that cost over $100k, seems like they should take more ownership.
Dealership responsible: ted britt Ford of chantilly dealership address: 4175 auto park cir, chantilly, va 20151 complaint details: I purchased a 2018 Lincoln Navigator l black label, and since then, I have experienced multiple serious mechanical failures due to an improperly performed cam phaser repair by ted britt Ford of chantilly in 2020. The dealership’s service department performed a faulty installation, which resulted •missing and broken screws in the cam phaser system •jerking, rattling, and acceleration issues •significant engine damage requiring a complete short block replacement as a result of this in negligent repair, in 2024 I had to replace the cam phaser again, along with replacing the short block of the engine due to the extensive damage caused by the dealership’s poor workmanship. In addition to this issue, I have faced multiple other failures, including: •valve body replacement •wastegate failure •rear heat stopped working •steering column failure these problems have caused frequent breakdowns and safety concerns, making the vehicle unreliable. The constant need for repairs raises serious questions about the quality of Lincoln’s engineering and service network. This issue is not an isolated incident, and I strongly urge NHTSA to investigate potential defects in the 2018 Lincoln Navigator and to hold dealerships accountable for performing unsafe and defective repairs. Requested action: I request an investigation into the faulty cam phaser repair process and whether similar issues are being reported by other 2018 Lincoln Navigator owners. This could indicate a larger systemic defect or a trend of poor-quality repairs in Ford/Lincoln service centers.
Upon a cold start my vehicle was making a rattling and ticking sound and the car would shake. There were no engine failure or warning lights that came on but the engine did not sound like it was running properly and clearly something was wrong. I took the vehicle in and was told that the variable cam timing parts need to be replaced. In doing some research it appears that the vct on the 2019 Navigator has a recall for the vct but my VIN was not included on the recall for some reason.
We buy used 2023 Lincoln Navigator with only 2937 miles and the running boards opens and close by it self and the most dangerous that the car doesn’t start whenever it wants I have 3 times already it just doesn’t start so I don’t know what to do.

Fire inside of the motor, behind the engine computer. Upon researching recalls for Lincoln Navigators I found these other recalls online for possibly the same fire issue: "Ford has issued a recall for some of its 2021 Ford expedition and Lincoln Navigator suvs due to a potential engine fire risk. Over 65,000 2021-year model vehicles manufactured between December 2020 and April 2021 have been affected. " "we've discovered a vehicle safety issue in some 2021 model-year Lincoln Navigator® vehicles built from July 30, 2020 to August 31, 2021. Some of these vehicles have experienced an under-hood fire, even while parked and off. ".

Connector for cooling hoses blew out causing engine to overheat and stand my family on the highway. This appears to be a common problem that someone did a youtube video on it. I have put the video link below. Please have them recall before someone gets hurt. Ford Lincoln does not respond. Https://youtu. Be/i_ej_ohwzr4?si=jvslru2d7cszxx78.
The car rattles very loudly upon starting every time it is started. I have lost acceleration power while driving through intersections. I took to dealership and it is confirmed it is the cam phasers. No lights have come on in dash.
While driving at a speed of 55-60mph, I tried to pass slower vehicles on three different occasions during the same trip on a two lane road. I pushed the accelerator to the floor and pulled the car into the lane to my left. I felt and heard a very loud clunk, revving up of the engine, and total loss of power at the wheels. I quickly moved backinto my original lane and let up on the accelerator. After a 5-10 seconds, power returned to the wheels and I was able to reaccelerate. I was able to pass the aforementioned vehicles, albeit using a more gradual acceleration. I have previously had the vehicle inspected for two identical episodes at a Lincoln dealer. Unfortunately, they reported that the service techs were unable to duplicate the problem. If this were a standard transmission vehicle, I would say the clutch was slipping. In a vehicle with four wheel drive and automatic transmission, however, I am not well enough informed to make a diagnosis. There can be no doubt, however, that the action is potentially dangerous and could result in head on collision. I would also suspect that the engine transmission train is likely to have shortened lifespan if the problem continues. It is possible that there is already damage.
The contact owned a 2015 Lincoln Navigator. The contact stated that while powered on, the a/c unit stopped working. The contact then observed smoke emanating from the vents. The vehicle was powered down. Additionally, the contact observed fire emanating from under the glove box. The fire department extinguished the fire. The origin of the fire was unknown. The contact manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 59,000.
Vehicle will abruptly lose power when accelerating to pass. Typically when travelling between 40 and 60 miles an hour and while accelerating to merge or pass. Vehicle basically stalls. Creates extremely dangerous situation.
Cam phasers have started to fail. Vehicle has been meticulously maintained and well taken care of. Ford even did the recall with a reprogram to supposedly fix the issue back in 2022. We always change the oil between 5,000 and 6,000 miles.
I was travelling down an interstate highway in my vehicle when I noticed several momentary losses of engine power over the course of approximately five minutes. These moments became more frequent over the next two to three minutes, then the engine abruptly shut down with no power when pressing the accelerator and no warning lights. Only after I restarted my vehicle did I receive a powertrain fault message on the display and a check engine light. The abrupt loss of power with nearly zero warning while on an interstate highway endangered my vehicle and its occupants. Upon examination by a mechanic, it was determined that the throttle body on my vehicle had malfunctioned by sticking in the closed position. This was found by my mechanic to be a known technical service bulletin issue from Ford motor company. My mechanic replaced the throttle body, and there have been no issues since.

Vehicle dies while in drive. Message shows "auto startstop shift to p, then restart engine". Dealer advised low battery voltage causing it, but vehicle starts without issue when shifting to p. Battery is only 2. 5 years old.
Engine temperature warning light came on. Engine coolant leaked out. Engine die while we were waiting for help on the side of I-15 freeway. The vehicle is now at Lincoln dealership for repair. They also told me that there is a faulty fuel pump code that they are looking at. They told me that the factory did not place a water hose in the properly designed placement. The truck die at about 500 miles after taking delivery from the dealer on 6/23/22 evening. It was tow from baker to henderson on 6/26/22.

The contact owns a 2021 Lincoln Navigator. The contact initially received a notification for NHTSA campaign number: 22v346000(engine); however the parts for the repair were unavailable. The dealer was contacted once the she received the notice and was informed that the parts were not available since the cause of the defect had yet to be determined. The contact was then notified that the recall (22v346000) had been separated into two recalls which stated that two different repairs were needed to repair the defect. The contact made an appointment with the dealer for a routine maintenance check; while at the dealer, she was informed that there was still no resolution for the recall. Once the contact picked up her vehicle, she was informed that the recall was serviced. She was informed that the ground wires connected to both the battery and cooling systems were shrink wrapped which she was informed would prevent the under hood fire failure. The contact expressed her concerns with the dealer, noting that the plastic shrink wrapping would melt under a hot engine and would not resolve the recall. The contact made multiple attempts to reach the manufacturer but had no success. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

If the rear trunk gate is up and the vehicle is running the passenger compartment will fill with carbon monoxide very quickly. This usually will happen if loading luggage or items in the back of the vehicle while the engine runs. Certainly a risk if kids are left in the passenger compartment while the truck is being loaded when the engine is running.
