The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that there was a cold start rattle on the eco-boost engine related to the cam phaser. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The dealer where the vehicle was purchased and crest Lincoln (36200 van dyke Ave, sterling heights, mi 48312) were made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was a recall associated with the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was referred to file a complaint with the NHTSA. Driving at about 25-30 mph on side street and my car surged out of control. . I attempted to control the speed with the brake. I was about 100-150 feet from a busy intersection (40 highway -the car surging really fast. I needed to make some quick decisions to protect a lot of people from being badly injured or killed. I had to leave the key on so that I could control the car away from 40 highway- so I turned into a little path to my right which led me into big trees or a thicket. I chose the thicket not knowing there was a terrain in the middle. Actually , the car was going so fast - I had very little control at this time. My car attempted to go up on one side flew about 20 feet through the air when it landed a small tree kept it from rolling over and came out on a hill again heading for the busy 40 highway. As luck would have it ,the hill was wet and muddy from rain and I pulled the steering wheel as hard as I could to my right turning the car up the hill - away from the traffic. The soft ground helped to put the car in a skid and flipped the back end around. As it was heading up the hill I quickly turned off the key and got the car stopped. When the towing company came to pick up the car -unsafe still surging. Took car to bob sights Ford . ( previously,they repaired the popping noice described in another 'nathsa' complaint. ) car was totaled. I tried to get them to hook the car up to the mechicanical module scanner for the safety of others. Instead they put it on the body scanner they use to locate all components when repairing a wrecked car (which I paid for) would not put the car on the mechnical scanner even though it was still surging when I finally released it to the insurance company. My biggest concern is the safety of others. I even talked to one of the owners of the dealership.

A few months ago, around 65,000 miles, I was driving on the highway when I noticed a loss of power as I was trying to accelerate. At that same time, the check engine icon started flashing. I was unable to accelerate until the check engine icon stopped flashing. Everything went back to normal and I didn't experience this problem again for a couple of months. This would occasionally happen whenever I'd try to overtake another car on the highway. These days at 78,000 miles, the vehicle intermittently runs rough.

The contact stated that the warning message "shift fault" and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the battery was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced and that the vehicle had lost communication with the body control module (bcm). The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times and the vehicle had been with the dealer since July 2021. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer advised the contact to obtain a vehicle rental at his own expense and he would be reimbursed. The contact stated that he had been renting a vehicle since July and that the manufacturer had failed to cover the expenses. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 6,126.
As I was merging on freeway, I experienced sudden loss of power and it could have resulted in fatalities since it was at rush hour. As I pulled over, the engine was bucking but regained power with sporadic bouts of loss during my drive home. There was a misfire on cylinder one and I replaced and tested all related components and then found out it was the cam phaser issue that plagues the triton engine. From reading other comments from both consumer and repair shop owners, it is simply a defective product from who else, the Ford corp. Of course they blame the owner for lack of maintenance.

2005 Navigator has only 60,000 miles, spark plugs defected, dealer wants $1,500 to $2,500 to replace them, which is defect from manufacture. These spark plugs should be replaced due to defects from manufacture, and the recall only wants to pay $1,040 for the replacement of the spark plugs, why should I pay up front if they are manufacture fault and my Navigator only has 60,00 miles now and I purchased it new from the dealer in 2005.
Coming home from a trip engine started to misfire. Come to find out the # 3 spark plus exploded destroying the coil and and threads holding the spark plug in. Causing the need to re tap the threads.

So I took it to galpin Lincoln in van nuys, CA on roscoe blvd an sepulveda an they just found one fuel injector needing replaced an wanted me to $2,500 for labor alone to completely open up my engine an see if it could possibly be the timing chain an realine the camshafts but they are not certain that's actually the problem with my Navigator because they can completely do all that an come up to be fine an be something else but unless I pay $2,500 for labor to just see if it is an have the chance it could not be I still lose those $2,500 because it's a non refundable. Where am I going to come up with that kind of money not alone why am I having to pay that first to see if it's a maybe the reason of all my car problems. Honestly that is ridiculous an not going to pay that kind of money on a maybe answer not a 100 percent we are sure that's the problem. Something needs to give an heaven forbid my car does blow up with my son's in the car driving it just because I needed to pay that amount on a maybe answer is un called for.

Loss of brake fluid, leaked through to cruise deactivation switch into cruise systems and electrical components causing corrosion which caused a short. Had trouble with cruise control working over time lead to higher flow of current that overheated and caused fire at switch under hood. Ford speed control deactivation switch fire. The fire originated in the area where the speed control deactivation switch is located (left rear corner of the engine compartment at the master cylinder. There was evidence of speed control deactivation switch failure prior to the fire including inoperable speed control, repeated difficulty shifting out of park.

I had the spark plug blow out of the hole caused car to run on less compression and it is very costly to fix mechanic informed this vehicle is known for this.
Water, vapor, condensation keeps getting on to the coil on plug assembly on the passenger side of my engine causing water build up, electrical failure, misfires and spark plug explosions in to my engine, causing fragments of metal and plastic to fire in to my engine. This has happened to me several times now, been repaired, and continues to happen. Despite 6 separate technical service bulletins, Ford / Lincoln have not recalled this problem with the 1999 to 2006 5. 4l v8 engine, leading to thousands of people like me having to continually fix this problem, which is caused by a design / safety flaw in the engine / component construction. I was nearly killed today on the freeway because the truck hesitated and misfired while I was going up a large hill, stuck between two semi-trucks and I couldn't move out of the way due to failure to accelerate.
My 2003 Lincoln Navigator has shut down completely three times in the last 6 weeks. Two of the occasions happened on the interstate while driving about 55 mph, the third instance happened in my subdivision driving less than 30 mph. After pulling the truck over to the side for safety the truck will not start immediately but will start after resting about 7 minutes. When the truck shuts down several lights on the dashboard light up. I explained the issue as well as I could to my local Ford / Lincoln dealership in madison, TN but they could not find any issues with it saying that no codes were showing. I also took the truck to a goodyear service repair in brentwood, TN but they also could not diagnose the problem. After searching for this type of issue on the internet I found numerous customers that have had a similar experience, some saying that the issue is related to the "fail safe" security option kicking in while a person is driving. The issue of having my truck shut down completely on the interstate is dangerous and I would appreciate help on getting the issue resolved as soon as possible.
1999 Lincoln Navigator-spark plug blow out.
I own a 2001 Lincoln Navigator with a 5. 4l engine. I was on my way to work and was going approx. 15 mph when I heard a bang coming from the front of the car. At first I thought I had hit something or something was falling off the car. I pulled over to the side of the road and at this time the engine started to run rough. I shut it off and checked under the hood but could not see anything wrong. I thought, after restarting the engine that it might be a bad spark plug. As I started off the car was still running bad so I decided to return home. The next day, 10/09/2010, I decided to check further and removed the three of the spark plugs on the drivers side, but the last one which is at the front of the engine I noticed the coil was all torn apart and the end of the coiled wire was sticking out from the plug hole. I pulled said wire out and saw the spark plug at the bottom of the hole. It appeared to have been blown out of its threads. Also to be noted is the smell of gas was very apparent and because the spark plug was damaged, the ground was forced against the electrode and was unable to spark. If it did, I'm sure the engine would have caught on fire. I also found two pieces of some unknown material that fell into the cylinder. The part appears to be a carbon material and might be part of the cop, coil over plug. After doing some research on the web, this appears to be a common problem with this type of Ford engines. I called the Lincoln dealer I bought the vehicle from and they said they have never heard of this problem. But they would get back to me if they can help. Further inquiry found that Ford recommends replacing the cylinder head when this problem occurs. This would cost approx. $3500. 00. As I have been unemployed for fifteen months, and finally found a part time job,(14 hours a week) this would be an expense I can not afford. The web sites did state that Ford is aware of this problem but will not admit to their poorly designed head.

My 2002 Lincoln Navigator caught fire, the entire engine and front half of the car is charred and the interior has significant burn damage, it almost set fire to our home.
2003 Navigator, 99,000miles - spark plug blew out - engine lost power, gas spilling out of engine, during the transport of 1 adult and 4 children. 1. One week prior to the incident, the truck was given a full service for 100k miles, less then 1000 miles later, the car is rendered inoperable, and the dealer offered to give $2500 on trade (the amount of the 100k service) or repair the engine for $5500. 2. Car does not run 3. Nothing is fixed yet, Ford will not admit a problem and will not assist the dealer.
