A twelve year old child was stuck in the third row seat belt due seat belt latch failure. While attempting to unlatch the buckle the retractor tightened so bad that the child received bruises across the chest area. Please describe details.
When leaving work on evening of 07-08-99, attempted to place seatbelt into latch and latch failed to work. I was concerned that if I had been involved in an accident I could have possibly been ejected from my vehicle. Incidently, in 1997, I was involved in a car accident and the person driving the other vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected and killed. I run high anxiety levels concerning wearing seatbelts. I feel that my safety and my families safety is at hand and this problem could happen again.
