44 Suspension problem of the 2006 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 03/19/2012

Suspension goes out frequently for over 2 years and everything has been checked out and Ford says nothing is wrong after each repair. I don't understand the rules to getting a vehicle replaced but my concerns are above and beyond the rules and should be considered for our safety and well being. We have been in the shop at least 7-10 times during this time. All goes back to same issue - suspension in June of 2009 we purchased a 2006 Lincoln Navigator for nearly $30,000, with the understanding that if we took reasonable care of the care that this would be a dependable, reliable vehicle for our family of 5. Since early 2010 we have had nothing but ongoing problems with the suspension system in this car. We have gone nearly two months and $4,000 in car bills during this time driving other cars from dealers while they have been working on our vehicle. Started with buying a new control module, then ride height sensors, and on to the latest buying a new air compressor. Car broke down on vacation and they said control module (which was just replaced) and needed to order it so we would have been stranded in florida for nearly a week and this would have been the 3rd new control module put into our car. So Ford pumped us up with air and put something in car for nearly $700 and ensured us that will get us back to michigan safely until we could get the new module. Made it 2 hours into our trip and the suspension dropped out on us again. Been nearly 2â½ years with the same issue. Our car has just been taken back in today 1/20/2014 because of the same issue. It broke down on us on our way to a work function this time, so I missed work and we dealt without having car again. Got new air compressor for $900 and it worked for a week this time. Bottomed out again and they said every test performed fine again. When will Ford/Lincoln listen and take action running out of money.

45 Suspension problem of the 2004 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

Jan 2012 air suspension light came on after being in below 30 degrees on a trip. Car was bouncing and could not control it properly. Replaced air shock on rear. Nov 2013 - same temps and same light and control problem. After the car reached a warmer temp. (south for 3 hours) it no longer bounced and was back to normal. Service shop could not find a problem. Dec 2013 another trip up north and same thing. And same service find. Nothing. Jan 2014 in a warmer temp. Light came on and bounce came back. Service shop said it looks like the compressor is going bad. This problem seems to me is a safety problem and should be recalled and repaired by Ford (Lincoln). It is dangerous and certainly makes the car uncontrollable.

46 Suspension problem of the 2001 Lincoln Navigator

The contact owns a 2001 Lincoln Navigator. The contact was driving 5 mph when the rear trailing arm and driveshaft fractured as a result of corrosion. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. 48 Suspension problem of the 2004 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 03/18/2011

We have a 2004 Lincoln Navigator ( the second we have owned) the air suspension has never worked as well as the first Navigator. The ride was very good for the first 50 thousand miles then when it was cold it would take a while for the air suspension to warm up and begin to work. In alabama it does not get that cold that many days but it was very uncomfortable on those days. Finally the suspension just stopped working and the ride was terrible. Took to the dealership and paid $98. 00 for diagnosis. Indeed the air suspension was leaking. Could not give us a firm price since they would not know for sure if any damage was done inside the system. The range was from $1,200. 00 to over $4,000. 00. If I wanted to gamble like that I will go to the casino. After talking with several mechanics their recommendation was to install a regular suspension which cost us $850. 00 including installation. Car rides as good as it did and we do not have to expect the suspension to go out again. We have heard lots of stories about the same problem we had and have heard a lot of people that have had to replace the air suspension 2 times before they gave up. Ford knows this is a problem and will not do a recall. One mechanic told us that the air suspension is the same one they use in the big Ford SUV and they never have problems with it. Ford and the engineers need to solve this problem. At this time we will not purchase a third Navigator even through I love the car.

49 Suspension problem of the 2006 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 01/03/2011

I am having continous problems with my 2006 Lincoln Navigator. For a vehicle of this quality, I never dream of so many problem. Now I am riding around with a bouncing Navigator and a sluggist running Navigator with plenty of fumes. I just don't have the funds for continous repairs for the same service. Do the mechanics know what they are doing? I am really frustrasted with this vehicle and the service I have recieved. Bouncing around in a 40,000 + vehicle is imbarrasing. Please help. I have to bum a ride at time. I have to travel , a lot and rent a car. This is getting old and expensive. The dealer want fix it because they say it is out of warranty, eventhough I have paid to have it fixed before. This is not costumer service. Help.

The contact owns a 2004 Lincoln Navigator. The air suspension on the front of the vehicle was not lifting up properly in order for the vehicle to drive without any incident. The vehicle was not taken to the dealership for inspection which was taken to three other service stations who performed a diagnostic test on the vehicle. The manufacturer was called and stated that there were no recalls or warranties stating that she had to pay for the repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 132,500.

53 Suspension problem of the 2004 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 08/18/2010

The air suspension system has failed on my luxury 2004 Lincoln Navigator (124,000 miles). This appears to be a common failure for this vehicle based upon my online research. There are companies that sell kits to replace the entire system as it is apparent that not failing is not an option. . Read more...

58 Suspension problem of the 2004 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 02/02/2010

I own a 2004 Lincoln Navigator. I have had problems with the air bag suspension system since I have owned my vehicle. What happens is when it gets cold the system fails to operate causing the vehicle to drop down on the tires. Ripping them from under the vehicle, it destroys the tires and could very easily cause an accident. I have had to replace the tires many times due to this issue. This winter alone it has been in the shop at lease 6 or 7 times. This system is no longer in use on the new Navigators. Ford has issued no recalls and will not assist me in getting this issue resolved. They said unless they are forced to deal with this by the NHTSA , I can no longer afford to spent thousands of dollars to resolve this issue which is clearly a mfg problem. Everyone I know who owns a Navigator with this system have gotten rid of them. Mine is paid for and I can't afford another vehicle.

59 Suspension problem of the 2003 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

Front air suspension on the passenger side does not work in cold weather, and only works half of the time in warm weather. Truck is very well taken care thru the dealership and has only 76,000 miles and been to the dealer several times for the suspension and right running board. See all over the internet numerous complaints about the same thing, this is clearly a common problem with the model (2003 Lincoln Navigator). The truck has not been driven in 2 months because of the expense at the dealer to repair.

60 Suspension problem of the 2003 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 11/28/2009

Suspension relay fails then compressor fails now it still will not fill and hold as it should right front dips dangerously low no real fix or relief in sight.

61 Suspension problem of the 2003 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 10/10/2009

The suspension in my 2003 Lincoln Navigator has gone completely out. The estimate to get it fixed is over $1000, but cannot repair because I have been laid off for over a year. Being as how this defect is so widely affects this make and model vehicle, it should be investigated as a possible recall. A typical car driver should not have to be expected to pay for an obvious engineering defect. We're talking about the entire suspension system failing with one component going out.

62 Suspension problem of the 2003 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 10/03/2009

64 Suspension problem of the 2003 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

I bought my used 2003 Lincoln Navigator in 2008. A year later, air suspension failure happened several times. Both in city and on highway - various speeds - but the scariest and most dangerous was when it happened on the highways. Caused vehicle to lose all suspension and drop extremely low. The navi bounced dangerously and violently even at very reduced speeds. It also caused the navi to scrape the ground on a few occasions. Had it repaired three times @ $500+ and was finally told that I needed to replace all four @ appx $2000+!! I was also told that this is a known problem with navi's. In order to save my time, money and sanity, I opted for spring-suspensions at a third of the cost and have not had any problems with those in over 4 years! I highly recommend the spring-suspensions and stop the insanity.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

66 Suspension problem of the 2003 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 02/14/2009

This is the fifth (5th) time in 6 years I have brought my car in for repair of the air suspension (compressor, ride height) , all but one of those times was to the Ford Lincoln dealership. It is clear that Ford is aware of the problem as there are 10 service bulletins on the 2003 air suspension alone, as well as hundreds of complaints on the internet (see complaints on edmunds, even fords website and several car forums. These are of the Lincoln Navigator only, not its equivalent Ford expedition, which also has hosts of complaints. ) many of the complaints state, much like my experience, that the dealer cannot even figure out the problem. It is impossible to describe to you the danger involved when the suspension fails, especially at highway speeds. The car bounces violently and becomes totally uncontrollable.

67 Suspension problem of the 2003 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

70 Suspension problem of the 2004 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 09/14/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Lincoln Navigator. After the vehicle was purchased, it began to fail. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for repairs. One month later, the suspension failed. While driving at an unknown speed, the trac indicator illuminated and the contact lost control of the vehicle. She pulled over and had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The vehicle was repaired for free. Afterwards, the low beam headlights failed and the contact replaced them with two bulb mechanisms. The low beams continued to fail and the mechanic could not find any failures. The dealer stated that the wiring was not faulty, but they discovered that the ballets in the low beams were blown out. The parts were ordered and replaced by a mechanic. The bulbs blew out again within a month. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they kept it overnight to repair it again. Through online research, the contact found complaints for failed ballets on his make and model vehicle. No one has been able to determine the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000 and current mileage was 98,000.
