Air Bag Problems of Lincoln Town Car - part 1

Want to report similar problem others seem to be reporting. When starting the car you hear 5 chimes/beeps repeating five times. The airbag light remains lit the entire time. On extended trips the chimes/beeps comes on again roughly every thirty minutes. Being directly linked to the airbag I’m surprised to find that this has yet to be recalled especially since many other towncar owners are reporting the exact same problem. I discovered that others were having similar issues when I was looking for a replacement seat belt because ours is sluggish to retract, you have to help it back to starting position.

The contact owns a 2001 Lincoln Town Car. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the passenger’s side curtain air bag inadvertently deployed without warning. While the contact was startled by the deployment of the air bag, there was no injury sustained. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that the vehicle was not under recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 50,930.

Tl-the contact owned a 199 Lincoln Town Car. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph in heavy rain, the vehicle hydroplaned and crashed with a flat bed tow truck. The none of the frontal air bags deployed. The police was present, but no report was issued at the scene. The contact and a passenger were taken to the hospital by ambulance, treated and released. The vehicle towed to an impound lot. The insurance labeled the vehicle destroyed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 183,000. Bp.

Airbag and seatbelt orange colored light has come on dashboard; 5 chimes x 5 times starting car and every half hour thereafter; car to garage, on diagnostic computer, front driver's seat removed; seat belt pretensioner bad; unknown with airbag; dealership states car is out of warranty; mileage is 57209. 3; seat belt lap and shoulder harness have locked into place after adjustment since car purchased in August of 2006; should not lock per my mechanic; dealership and Lincoln unwilling to pay to replace pretensioner and seat belt; can't determine if airbag is defective until pretensioner and seat belt replaced; Lincoln could offer to comp dealership the costs of the pretensioner and seat belt replacement and airbag if airbag is found to be defective; have no idea if seat belt would work let alone airbag now; very concerned driving this car going forward; current and potential costs are high for me now; feel Lincoln should pay as this had to be a known defect to anyone who drove this car at the dealership once it was delivered from the factory.

Driving home from a shopping and near home we heard two very loud bang noises. The passenger side of the car lowered to the road. I was near my driveway, and I drove it into the yard. There it has sat with one side much lower than the other.

Just called Ford motor company and they say that NHTSA, issues the recalls ,not Ford motor company, why haven;t you issued one for this model car? you would think Ford would be concerned about our safety, they don;t care and neither does NHTSA. . . . . How many people , including children must die before you issue a safety recall notice? thats why we need a change in our government, and very soon. . .

Chimes 5 times and repeats 5 times. This occurs every 30 minutes once car is started and seat belt/aibag light continuously on. Diagnosed by Ford dealer as driver's seat belt retracror. Replaced and chime and light will not go off. Happens while stationary and while car is in motion. Haven't attempted to repair again due to cost and have read that this doesn't necessarily fix the problem.

Takata recall ? my wife and friend driving 30 mph in no traffic, and the drivers seat air bag deployed. There was no impact to the vehicle. She said it sounded like a gun shot and the yellow bag came out of the drivers seat. Driving straight ahead on a country road.

Takata recall as an 83 year old senior citizen, just recently widowed in may 2015, I was forced to purchase another Lincoln, because of the airbag in my 2003 Lincoln did not function at all doing a head on collision, hitting a concrete wall.

The contact owns a 1997 Lincoln Town Car. The contact stated while driving at 40 mph when the contact was struck on the front passenger side and the airbags did not deploy. The vehicle was not towed, and the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact had a second accident, and the airbags did not deploy. The dealer stated that the airbags could not be replaced because the vehicle is an older model, and the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 154,000.

Within a mile of leaving home, the seat belt light came on & started beeping. Driver glanced down to check seatbelt only to find that it was coming unlatched. In the brief seconds that it took to glance down & back up, driver was already leaving the road and in a panic, accidentally hit gas instead of brake. Car was totalled. The only airbag that deployed was the steering wheel. Driver sustained serious trauma injuries to head, ribs, pelvis, femur as well as extensive hematomas. Driver is also suffering from stress related to accident. Driver is now recovering with the aid of physical therapy and other devices for mobility (walker, wheelchair, cane, etc. ). Driver is son of owner of vehicle.

My father was involved in an t-bone accident which totaled both vehicles. Not one of his airbags deployed. I understand the front not deploying but neither of the side bags deployed as well.

My car is making a beeping noise and the air bag sign is showing on the dash.

Air bag dash light on, there are 5 beeps five times every half hour.

Had an accident and as a result the airbag notification light stays on. Light suppose to indicate that the airbag inflated. It did not inflate during accident. Accident was on a city street and it was in motion.

I lost control of the car when it hit ice at 9:20a- 1/25/2013 on I-94 near chesterton, in, spun around and crashed twice (front/rear) into the left concrete barrier parallel to the roadway. " isp officer weems reported that I may receive a ticket for "too fast for conditions. " tc failed the only air bag test it ever had. Seat belts did not. No other cars were involved on busy I-94. We were lucky!.

Seat belt alarm started going off. Ford sevice department said they knew of the condition. The seat belt is not working correctly and in case of an accident the air bag/s will not engage. This is a safety hazard that the Ford company has known about and refuses to fix at their cost. It is about $1,000. 00 and I do not have that kind of money. . This to me doesn't seem any different then gm knowing there is a safety problem but refuses to do a recall. Ford service department claims there hasn't been enough reports of the problem to do a recall. So not having the money to fix this, I'm risking my life and anyone riding in the front seat with me each and every time I drive the car. I would appreciate any and all help on this matter.

The problem diagnosis was the left front seat belt tensioner. A Lincoln dealer service employee said "the air bag will not work with this problem". At another Lincoln dealership a service employee mentioned "this has been a real nightmare", many are having this same problem. I hear they had to change the manufacturer for the new part. Because of the part and installation cost, perhaps many people may not be able to afford the fix, therefore leaving them in a dangerous situation.

The "air bag" light on this vehicle comes on often, irregularly and unpredictably on this vehicle. The dealer says it must be illuminated while in their shop to perform any diagnostics. This has been occurring for several years, and many miles.

The contact owns a 2009 Lincoln Town Car. When a passenger sits in the front passenger seat the air bag deactivation light will come on even when the appropriate weight is occupying the seat. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the weight calibration for the passenger seat air bag was between 110-130 lbs. The contact had noticed the problem since the day the vehicle was purchased. The current and failure mileages were 12619. Bl.

: the contact stated while driving 70mph in smooth road conditions, the driver's side curtain air bag deployed with no prior warning. The contact recently filled the vehicle with gasoline 20 miles prior to the incident. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection.

While driving about 20 - 30 mph vehicle hit a bump in the road, and the air bags depolyed inadvertantly.

While turning into a parking space consumer was depressing the brakes and the vehicle surged forward. Consumer lost total control of the vehicle and collided into a wall. A bicycle rack was destroyed in the process. The seat belts were worn and the air bags did deploy. The police did arrive and cited the consumer for the collision.

Frontal collision 50mph, none of the airbags deployed on my 2002 Lincoln towncar. My insurance CO. Said car is total loss accident & not repairable, when I contacted to my local Ford/Lincoln dealer & the company itself, I ask my car is total loss & none of the airbags deployed, they said someone will get back to you soon, after 6 months no one get back to me, but insurance CO paid the car.

Air bag wiring failure. Clock spring assembly part number f5vy-14a664-a steering column wiring broke. All 7 wires were worn through from the movement of the tilt steering column. 3 of these wires were broken-one gray which signals the air bags to deploy and the other controlled the radio and other functions.

Consumer is having problems with the clock spring.

Consumer's vehicle was hit on the left front side with at an angle by another another car traveling approximately 40-. The driver's air bag deployed, but the passenger air bag did not. Consumer very concerned because collision caused extensive damage to vehicle including a bent frame. Consumer feels the severity of the collision should have caused the passenger side bag to deploy. Ts.

Air bag blinks 3-6 times and then stays on. Dealer was informed that air bag can malfunction, to have it inspected. Please provide more information.

I have been trying to view the information on my airbag and can't find it Feb. 2002 sent to you.

Consumer received recall notice 00v-270 on the air bags, the consumer has not yet had recall repairs completed due to lack of parts.

Other: carbon monoxide leak from air bag, causing driver to pass out/drive off road.

Air conditioner went out and clock spring went bad because airbag shorted out. Safety feature shorted out horn and cruise control.

While driving at 45 mph vehcile was in an head on collision due to brake failure. Upon impact, none of the air bags deployed.
