Automatic Transmission problems of the 1997 Mazda 626 - part 2

1997 Mazda 626 "o/d off" flashing; needs new transmission ridiculous expensive and so many people have this same problem with the 626- unfortunately I didn't find this out until too late. Mazda needs to recall this and pay for a new transmission!.

On Tuesday April 27, 2004 the transmission on my 1997 Mazda 626 lx went out while I was traveling from nashville, TN to gatlinburg, TN. The vehicle only has 73,500 miles and other than the now nonfunctional automatic transmission, the car is in excellent shape. I have contacted the dealership, nelson Mazda antioch, TN as well as the Mazda corporation. Basically, all I have gotten is sorry, no warranty, no help. It is now going to cost about $2700. To get a replacement. I have seen numerous complaints on this site as well as others in regards to this problem. I feel that this transmission needs to be recalled!!!.

Transmission replacement on 1997, Mazda 626-this will be my third transmission in four years.

While driving 35 mph transmission down shifted on its own. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the engine needed replacing.

1997 Mazda 626 lx - transmission, catalytic converter, oxygen sensor, and computer have all been repaired in a span of 11 months. The car does not have 80,000 miles on it!.

Automatic transmission problems. This is the second time the transmission has gone out. First transmission was replaced by Mazda in 2001. Second, when car was placed in "park" it became stuck. It could not be unlocked from park, could not be pushed out of the way, and the car had to be towed. The mechanic says it is a computer chip in the console that is causing the problem.

While driving at any speed the transmission would decelerate even when the consumers foot was on the accelerator. This made it difficult for the consumer to control the vehicle.

The transmission on my car went at 63000 miles, told by the dealer "rosenthal Mazda" that this was common. According to the dealer, " the 626's are in here all the time to have the trannies rebuilt, you should be happy yours lasted to 60k" bullcrap, shouldn't there be some accountability on Mazda/Ford's part. All over the net you see problems with the tranny on this piece of crap yet the NHTSA does nothing, what a joke.

The light comes on after about 60 miles of driving. Turning the igintion off and back on will turn off the od light but only temp. After the second time the od light comes on, the engine light comes on. I have taken this to a mechanic and he cleared the codes and changed the transmission fluid. This cycle of events has happened 15 times in 6 months. I was told by the mechanic that this is a common problem with Mazda 626's from about 1994 - 1997. I have contacted my closest dealership and they told me that to remedy this situation, I will need a new transmission which will cost about $2000. I see on the internet hundreds of people who are reporting the same problem in their Mazda 626's as I am having. If Mazda knows that there is a problem with their automobile, why don't they fix it for us. I spent very good money on my vehicle and I take very good care of it. Mazda has been aware of this problem and refuses to admit an unsafe product. $4000 into this car would only be a band-aid for this problem. I want Mazda to take their car back and wipe my credit record clean. No safety defect listed.

While driving at highway speed vehicle starts to jerk. Engine light and od light came on. Took to dealer, and dealer indicated vehicle needed new transmission. This was second transmission.

While at a stop vehicle would jerk upon taking off. Took to mechanic, and they replaced transmission. At 67000 miles vehicle has had 4 transmissions. Please provide any further information.

Transmission on my 1997 Mazda 626 went out in December of 2001. Mazda would not acknowledge the problem, but they were willing to let me pay $3,000 for a new transmission. I traded it in at a loss, just to be rid of it.

Another Mazda w/ transmission problems. Having to have rebuilt for $2k. Owner's manual references nothing about being required to replace the transmission at 60,000 miles use. I was very lucky that myself and pregnant wife weren't on the interstate when it went out.

I can get statements from two different transmission shops saying that Mazda 626 transmissions are worked on more than any other automobile.

The transmission on my 1997 Mazda 626 failed at just over 65,000. I took the car to an authorized Mazda dealership for repairs. The Mazda mechanic told me that I needed to completely replace the transmission. To save on the final cost, I took the car to a transmission specialist, who rebuilt the transmission. I am writing today because I have since learned that mine not an isolated problem. If fact, the research that I have done (consumer reports, interenet, etc. ) indicates that there are severe problems with the transmission on 1993-1998 Mazda 626's (some transmissions have been replaced at only 30,000 miles). And while certainly not conclusive evidence, I was told by the transmission specialist who worked on my car they "work on Mazda 626's all the time". In fact there were two other Mazda 626's at the shop on the same day. One was a 1997 and the other a 1996. My sincere hope is that this problem can be resolved.

There is a fault with the 1997 Mazda's 626 transmission that the company is aware about. Per phone conversation with transmission repair shop specialist they found a problem with the transmissiom and are only fixing problem if repairs to the transmission are needed. Could cause potential hazard to drivers of 97 Mazda 626 owners if transmission breaks in drive while traveling.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision. Impact was on left and right front of vehicle. Upon impact, airbags did not deploy, resulting in minor injuries. The vehicl's sensor system failed. The transmission was rebuilt. The vehicle had been in accident by the previous owner and dealer refused to take it back.

The gear change is very jerky and at high speeds after driving for about 30 mins it gets even more jerky as if someone has hit you from behind. During rush hour traffic it gets risky as in stop and go traffic conditions the sudden gear jerks are so severe that the car jumps forward and gets very close to the car in front.

O/d off : flashing occasionally.

Transmission would jump while trying to shift from park to drive or from drive to park. Sometimes would fail to shift. Happened at least 4-5 times before taken to dealer. Mechanic indicated a defect in transmission was causing the problem and it could be repaired.

I have had the car less than 3 months and already the check engine light is on constantly. Also, everytime I try to change gears the transmission stalls and it seems as if I am in neutral. It has a hard time after I change gears in either going foward and reverse. It stalls than jumps and moves. I have had several cars with more mileage than this and I never had such problems. I should not be paying as much as I am for a car that is faulty. I would suggest to Mazda to recall all these cars very soon.

The transmission went out in sept. Of 2000. The car has been servised by university Mazda front brakes wearing engine light , battery and shift console problems. The car is a lemon. ( dot number: ).

I have contacted Mazda directly. They refuse to admit that they have a defect in the cd4e transmissions on these cars even though all repair shops contacted warn not only of 70+% failure rate, but warn not to buy Mazda rebuilt because they are still not repairing the defects in the tranny. Same failure rate can be found in the post 1995 and up Ford contour which shares the same transmission. Mfr refuses to be of any help. Please let me know how I can proceed.

Transmission misses from 1st to second gear. Know of several Mazda owners, all have had transmissions replaced at least once. / had one sensor replaced, following week light back on and service department replied I need to replace two more.

Engine was running badly, engine and oil light came on. Dealer found engine had "sludged" up, had to replace engine. In October of 1999, transmission went out.

Will not purchase another Mazda in the future, this was my third. No summary listed for above vehicle.
