The car stalled while in motion on the highway with 56 miles left in the gas tank. This caused a very dangerous situation due to the fact that I could not accelerate at all, as the traffic was speeding past. I had to coast through traffic to the safety of the shoulder of the road. Once the vehicle came to a stop, it wouldn't restart and it seemed as if it never actually stopped trying to restart. I noticed a few things during this situation. 1. The check engine light came on 2. All the dash board lights appeared to come on 3. The emergency brake and hold button for city parking brake were flashing at the center counsel 4. The dashboard warnings rotated between, city parking brake, parking brake, cruise system disabled 5. The battery finally died after several minutes of this happening my family and I were brought to safety by a state trooper and had the vehicle towed to a gas station. We filled the gas tank, jumped the car and it has not had the issue since. Unfortunately the rear lift gate has only worked one time after the event but I am not sure what is going on there. I had this same issue happen once in 2019, and the vehicle restarted. I took it to a Mazda dealer and they said it may have been bad gasoline. The vehicle issue seems to match a similar issue mentioned in recall 3719f.

The following warning and warning lights began around 34,980 miles on my 2016. 5 Mazda Cx-5 grand touring 2. 5l skyactiv-g while driving down the interstate: master warning light, check engine light, power steering, keyless system malfunction, Smart city brake support malfunction, forward scbs disabled, check engine light, tcs/dsc indicator light, tcs off indicator light, blind spot monitoring (bsm) off indication, brake system warning light, abs warning light, electric brake warning light, air bag/front seat belt pretensioner system warning light, tire pressure monitoring system warning light, led headlight warning light, and the speedometer does not work. The vehicle takes several attempts to turn off. Using the left blinker will cause the vehicles power to restart and yes, while driving! this started November 14, 2020 and when I notified Mazda, they did not seem concerned and a couple days later the light were no longer there. This occurred again December 15, 2020 and March 5, 2021 when I decided Mazda needs to run a diagnosis because clearly something is not right. My dealership insisted it was my battery (basically the only warning light not on) and my rear brake pads. Then when this did not correct the issue, they said corrosion needed to be cleaned which was not shown in the vehicle inspection video. Also, my car was just serviced at my Mazda dealership July 2020 with 33,706 miles. September 2020 my vehicle was parked and I returned to a large crack on the driver side. Around 25,000 the tired needed to be replaced, now at 36,666 miles tire thread depth is in the yellow' my vehicle alignment has zero issues and my Mazda dealership is the only one who rotates the tires (or suppose to).

Will not accelerate at times no matter how far you press down on gas pedal and will stall right after. I will pull over shut off vehicle and restart. This sometimes corrects the problem right away. Other times it lasts longer. System malfunction light randomly comes on.

On may 9, 2020, our Mazda cx5 lost thrust, stalled and came to a complete stop while driving on a highway going 55 mph on a straight 3 lane road. This occurred despite the pcm programming was re-calibrated due to a manufacturer recall in September 2019 (NHTSA recall no. 19v497000). The car is towed to a Mazda service centre and is awaiting diagnosis.
Made a slow right turn into a parking place to pick up my dogs at the groomer, when I applied brakes to stop, the car accelerated lurching forward. I then took my foot off the brake and reapplied instead of slowing down the car sped up and was only stopped when I hit a brick building. I had two dash warnings "front camera sensor system malfunction" and "forward Smart city bread support malfunction" I am not certain how fast the car was moving when I hit the building but the entire front of the car is significantly damaged. Further the air bags did not deploy. I have photos of both the collision damage and the warning lights. The dealership requested they run diagnostics and found nothing wrong claiming the accident was my fault as I must have put my foot on both the brake and gas at the same time. I am an experienced driver and this was not the case. The also stated the warning lights were a result of the accident not the cause. I am only grateful I was not pulling into a space closer to the door as I would have gone through a plate glass window and most likely would have cause a serious injury to anyone standing in the lobby.
On Monday, November 25, 2019, as I was approaching my home, I activated my garage door opener and the garage door opened as I pulled into my driveway. I stopped the car, a 2019 Mazda Cx-5, in the driveway, placed it in park, got out of my vehicle and entered the garage. While in the garage for approximately 2-3 minutes, I turned around to see my 2019 Mazda Cx-5 accelerating toward me. The car rolled until it hit the washing machine and dryer. I managed to avoid getting pinned but not before the car ran over my foot. I managed to squeeze past and enter the vehicle placing my foot on the brake and putting the car back in park.

I was driving my Mazda 2013 Cx-5 on the highway, when it suddenly lost power and would not accelerate. I pressed the the accelerated all the way to the floor and my vehicle would not accelerate. The engine light, low tire, and traction symbols all were lid up on the dashboard. I drove the vehicle back home at 20 mph as this is the maximum top speed the vehicle would accelerate. I will check to see if there is a recall for this safety issue that can be life threatening.
Car accelerates by it self from standing stop. Pulling out of parking stall shifting to drive car accelerates till I press brake twice. Then after slowly driving over speed bump car accelerated up to 25 to 30 mph till I pressed brake twice . Car new has 1800 miles.
Driving normally, suddenly at an on-ramp, car would no longer accelerate. I hit the gas a couple times and engine just revved, and the car was jerky as if struggling to change gear. Anything over 3,000 rpm it would not drive. I also noticed electrical problems with radio and lights at the same time. Thankfully, I was able to coast to pull over. Turned off car and re-started. Test drove the vehicle around the area and it happened again at over 3,000 rpm. Luckily this didn't cause an accident.

Vehicle display on dashboard, steering wheel, shift console, audio controls, seats adjustments are not illuminated. The letters and numbers are not lighted. Unable to know which buttons to push because printing is so small and many controls are grouped too close together. Mazda cx5 owner's manual is for all Mazda models. There is no indication as to what feature is included on my car. This car lacks lighted display and contains small letters/numerals whileparked, moving or driving in day or night; Mazda dealers in two different towns report unable to improve situation "that's how it is" .
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Mazda Cx-5. While at an intersection, the vehicle accelerated without warning and crashed into the preceding vehicle. The fender on the contact's vehicle was damaged. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The cause of the failure was not determined. The failure mileage was 44,000.
Yesterday my wife tried to stop our cx5 in our driveway but it kept a slow glide for a few yards thus crashing into our garage door. Shifting into park a 2nd time (1st time didn't work) and pounding the brake pedal finally stopped the vehicle after pushing in the garage door a few feet. Engine remained in low idle (no acceleration) and brake feedback was normal (not mushy) the whole time. This is 2nd occurrence. First occurrence was about 6 months ago as the cx5 glided part way into an intersection. All symptoms listed above were exactly the same.
My vehicle was on a city street behind a car which was at a stop sign. I stepped on the brake pedal, but my cx5 did not slow to a stop, but kept going at a steady speed toward the car ahead. My car suddenly stopped about 5 feet from the car ahead. My foot was on the brake pedal the whole time. This happened twice. Another time I was stopped behind a car making a left turn . With my foot n the brake pedal my vehicle moved about 3 or 4 feet and stopped before hitting the car in front.
Takata recall: there is a problem with acceleration and the car not turning completely off once the push start/stop button is pressed. During acceleration the gears seem like they get stuck and the car does not accelerate properly and to turn the car off completely I will usually have to turn the engine back on completely, shift in reverse or drive then back to park and turn off. Sometimes repeating the process multiple times until the car turns off completely. I first noticed this problem a few months ago and has progressively become more frequent in occurrences.

Coasting. Driving to a stop sign or stop light or stopping point at a declining speed from 30mph to 25/20/15mph intervals are where the tugging/stutter happens. Dealership says it is normal operation for the car to shift into gear when declining in speeds. Even corporate agreed with them. The only thing that is not normal is how come awd variation doesn't have this issue? my older Mazda 3 from 2009 I drove didn't have this issue. Tested a Mazda 3 new 2018 and they had this issue. Also tested a sales department 2016 fwd cx 5, similar issue. My friend who is a physoclogist, her cx 5 2016 has the same tugging issue. Dealership said it could be a torque converter/transmission/ or cold weather within th transmission lines. No error codes were present when they checked. The driving experience seems very degrading for the newer models. The abrupt tugging could cause an accident to someone ahead of me or the jerking could make me hit the gas pedal even harder. Spoke service request number 1-1225218842 spoke to roy from Mazda csdepartment 800. 222. 5500 select prompt 2, then ext. 1148. The cs called dealership and followed dealership guidance. If this is new for the vechicle as a standard of driving, then this must make it very unpleasant and predictable for future accidents.
My foot was solely on the brake as my car was coming to a stop in a parking space. Then suddenly with no reason, the car accelerated, jumping the cement tire stopper, hit against the concrete parking column, went down a slight hill and hit another concrete parking column before stopping. The whole right side (passenger side) was completely totaled. Fortunately I only had bruises and no other cars were damaged. This is a serious safety problem and should be investigated.
Tl the contact owns a 2018 Mazda Cx-5. While pulling into a parking space at 5 mph, the vehicle accelerated on its own while the brake pedal was depressed. As a result, the vehicle drove over a median and crashed into another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to schwartz Mazda (585 shrewsbury Ave, shrewsbury, NJ 07702, (732) 945-5100) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and repairs. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was 650.
Reduces speed while driving, unexpectedly. Causing the car to stop immediately while being driven. It's been happening constantly for months and I have seen myself in serious trouble situations.
The contact owns a 2015 Mazda Cx-5. While at a stop light, the vehicle began to accelerate without the contact depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. The contact called lynchburg Mazda who stated that they were unfamiliar with the failure. The contact also contacted the first team auto mall dealer who stated that they were unfamiliar with the failure as well. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 27,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Mazda Cx-5. While the vehicle was at a complete stop, the engine revved. The contact's vehicle independently surged forward and crashed into the preceding vehicle. The contact's vehicle continued to surge and crashed into a pole. The driver and passenger frontal air bags deployed. The contact sustained injures to the chest and arms, which required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent body garage. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 28,000.
On 2 separate occasions (5/27/2017 and 6/15/2017) while on the freeway while in stop & go traffic, my vehicle suddenly seemed to lose power, and unable to go more than 20 mph. The tire pressure, traction control, emergency light comes on. Both times I have safely been able to make it to the shoulder. The first time, I had my car towed to auto repair shop. Their $300 diagnosis reported nothing wrong with the car. The second time, I turned my car off & on again on the shoulder. The check engine light stayed on and I and was able to drive to my destination. The check engine is now back off, but I have dropped it off at the same auto repair shop, and they are replacing an air flow sensor in hopes that this resolves the problem. This will cost us another $300. Both times I had my 18 month old in my car. I am deeply concerned.
The contact owns a 2016 Mazda Cx-5. While driving 5 mph, the vehicle accelerated and increased rapidly without warning. Also, the brakes failed to work. As a result, the contact drove over a small tree and then crashed into another tree, which helped stop the vehicle. The contact sustained muscle, neck, and back pain. Medical attention was not required. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,751.
My complaint is identical to complaint # 10913740. I special ordered my Cx-5 & picked it up Feb 2017. Does not shift properly, revs up to 6000 before engaging, can't accelerate when I need to (like merging on freeway or changing lanes). Please see complaint # 10913740 because he describes it better than I, a non "car person" can. I've put my my gas foot to the floor trying to gain some speed so I wouldn't get rear ended and it takes, literally, about 10 seconds to respond at all. The dealer claims it is shifting as designed & says they can't recreate the problem. Car was there @3600 miles & they told me the tech couldn't find anything wrong with the car but did I want a drive with him. I did one, & he tried to tell me that revving to 5000 when on a small incline was normal. This is a lie. I brought the car back again- it was in for 7 days. 2nd time manufacturer involved, & supposedly its engineers would work on it. But all they did is run diagnostics (doesn't anybody actually look at the actual car anymore - computers do malfunction) and what they came up with is that I was engaging the gas and the brake at the same time, causing the car not to shift. First of all, my tiny foot couldn't be on both pedals if I tried; second, my left foot is a clutch foot. I am so used to using it on a clutch only that it dangles where a clutch would be if I hadn't bought this stupid automatic 2016 Cx-5. So now Mazda is saying that their engineers & dealer technicians are infallible and they will do nothing for me. Meanwhile, I am stuck with this pos I bought for $27,000 cash which is not only dangerous but extremely un-fun to drive due to the jerking, revving, etc. , which are very unnerving, and with 5000 miles on car, I should want to drive it. Instead I am driving my nearly 12 year old vw so that I can get places safely and without the jarring problem of the Mazda.
While driving through stop and go traffic near a traffic light on a downward slope (maybe 10-15 degrees), I attempted to apply the brakes in order to come to a stop. When doing so, the brake pedal was being applied normally but the vehicle wasn't slowing down like it normally does. As a result, I pushed down on the brakes as hard as possible and while the vehicle slowed down more than it previously was, it attempted to lurch forward more and more. I noticed that the rpms were slowly getting higher while I was in the middle of applying the brake pedal as hard as possible, but the vehicle was coming increasingly close to making contact with the vehicle in front of me. Due to the vehicle being close to being physically stopped already, I placed the vehicle in park as quickly as possible and the rpms for the vehicle immediately climbed all the way to the red-line (I believe 6,500 rpms) and then returned to normal. Throughout the remainder of the trip (another 5-10 miles), the vehicle exhibited no noticeable issues. I called the local Mazda dealership to see if any problems regarding the transmission were currently being investigated, but I was told that no recalls were currently open for a transmission problem.
When driving approximately 65mph or sometimes less the tire pressure, traction control, emergency light comes on. The car seems to lose power and shut down. It happens countless time twice with my two-year-old daughter on the highway. When I take it to the mechanic they run diagnostics test and can't pick up any codes. Because its not duplicating any issue they return the car to me after they reset all the computer. But the issue is still not resolved. I would lose power to the car and my brakes are sometimes not responsive. I would coast with my emergency light on until I can stop my car. Sometime my hazards light would frequently flash at a fast speed than stop. I took it to two Mazda dealership to see if they can have resolved the issue but they cannot duplicated what going on. I did some research on my own and found countless complaints about the same issue I'm having and no mechanic can figure out the issue this car is junk. This have started the first week on Dec. 2016 it has been in two shop over the past 4 month. The first shop I took it to had it for a whole month and the second shop had it for two week. At one point when I was told my car was fix I came to pick it up. The car would not start at all it was not even reading my keys. The car does not have 100k miles on it. I don't do a lot of driving. This is hazardous.
The contact owns a 2016 Mazda Cx-5. While parking the vehicle with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle accelerated and crashed into a tree. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where no failures were found. The approximate failure mileage was 14,000.
For the past 5 months my car will appear to have shut down while driving. I was driving on city streets going about 15 - 45 mph. I work from home or go to the office twice a week. I drive my kids to school during the week. I don't do much commuting. All electrical components shut down then reboot within seconds, and the car makes beeping sounds like I just started the car. The car will not stop or slow down, but if I come to a complete stop at a light, the car will be very slow to accelerate but I can get it back up to the speed limit after a very slow start. I have called aaa on one occasion and took it to a shop on another occasion. They both say it is battery related due to the wrong batter being installed but it is the battery size in the system of an orielys auto parts store. Every time I replace the battery and the issue appears to go away for a couple weeks to a month. The last battery replacement I purchased a stronger batter than in their system as per the advisement from the auto shop. It seemed to fix it again but after a month the car did the same thing.
This has been happening for the last 2 years. I've taken it to 2 different Mazda dealerships for a total of 5 times and they cannot duplicate the issue or find any problems running diagnostics. My car has 50,000 miles on it and is a 2013 Mazda Cx-5. When I bought it had 20,000 miles on it and I started noticing a few months after I bought it. This issue happens mostly when: I'm turning left from a complete stop turning left while coasting toward a stop sign and then speeding up once it turns green merging into traffic going left or right turning right from a complete stop or while coasting to the red light and speeding up once it turns green car stalls/hesitates/lingers as if I'm not accelerating. As though the car was in neutral instead of drive. The rpm increases but the car does not move (unless it was already coasting and continues to move from momentum). It feels as though the transmission is not shifting quick enough into the right gear and I notice this while I'm usually at a lower speed trying to accelerate into traffic. I am often scared that a car will hit me from behind (or the side if I'm turning left) as I turn into traffic. It's the equivalent of someone turning into heavy traffic and then stopping. This will cause an accident and I'm hoping it doesn't take a fatal or near fatal accident before Mazda realizes there is a definite problem with this car.
Leaving an above-ground parking garage, the city brake assist feature engaged twice, without warning. The car came to a sudden and complete stop and the wheels locked up. There were no cars or other obstacles in the vicinity that would have caused the city brake assist feature to engage. When the feature engaged, the car was going about 5 mph, on a slight downhill (the decline was simply from the parking garage), and it occurred during a straightaway section of the garage (e. G. , not while going around a bend).
I just purchased this vehicle in September 2014. While I was driving on interstate 15 at approximately 70mph all a sudden I had no more power I could not accelerate, when I pushed the gas pedal nothing would happen. I pulled over to the side of the road and stopped put it in park and put it back in drive and it went. So I continued on my trip however, about 50 minutes into my trip now on interstate 215 that same thing happened this time when I pulled over just putting it I park and back in drive it didn't work I had to turn the vehicle off start it and then it worked. I had to turn around and cancel the trip as I didn't want to be stranded. I'm not sure if its the transmission or what.
The contact owns a 2015 Mazda Cx-5. While driving at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle's speed suddenly decreased to 40 mph without any warning. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 12,000.
About an hour into my commute from work, stopped at traffic light. Accelerator didn't respond after several attempts to reach full speed. Maximum speed reached 5-10 mph on a 50 mph road. Several warning lights displayed immediately and was able to safely pull over onto side road. Restarted veh and engine light remained on; accelerator responded normal and was able to get home cautiously. Veh was taken to service next day, advisor explained issue has been alerted on service bulletin. Currently waiting on transmission parts.
Bought a 2014 Mazda Cx-5 back in November 2013. Up until December 2014 and 33k miles, no issues. Second week of December, was entering the highway and decided to accelerate a bit , got up to about 80 mph and let off the gas. That's when all of a sudden the engine light, traction light and tpms came on. Car lost power but was able to pull off to the side of the highway. Sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders, pushing the gas pedal, car wouldn't go. Shut the car off and on and performed like normal. Took it the dealer to have checked out. They couldn't replicate the issue and says it was my k&n filter I had, which is false since I've had the filter for the last 20k miles on the car and another 30k on my 2012 Mazda 3. Let it go then the following did it again and but this time it happened twice in a row and the engine light stayed on. Got the code of p0301 which is a cylinder 1 misfire issue. Take it back again and they keep for almost 3 weeks. They finally got the car to do shut off. Replaced fuel injector with no luck. Ended up replacing the crank pulley and belts and say it's working. They also replaced the battery because they said it died and had a bad cell. Pick the car on a Tuesday evening and sure Friday morning did it again!! already called Mazda customer support and got a case number set up. Dealer "says" Mazda wanted me to take a tech out to replicate problem, which they can, why they want me too, I have no clue. Sure enough the day I take it to the dealer, it did again on my way there. Tech scans the car, sees the same codes and prints them out. Couldn't get the car to shut off again, so I wait. The following week, call Mazda customer support and say the dealer said no codes were found, bullcrap!! complained to the dealer service manager and he "says" that Mazda knows the problem, software related but no release date. I'm done and fed with Mazda and the dealer.
