2 Brake Light problem of the 2008 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

The oem bulbs in the brake lights are too hot and after some time the bulbs burn through the plastic, causing the brake lenses to get cloudy, the plastic to melt onto the bulb, and the red tint to fade in the brake lights. My car is like this and every 2008 Cx-7 I've seen has the same thing - cloudy and burned brake lenses from the bulbs burning a hole in the brake lense plastic.

3 Brake Light problem of the 2011 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

Defective taillight assembly: both brake light taillight assembly have melted inside the taillight assembly. Since reporting this to my Mazda dealer I have seen the same problem in other Mazda Cx-7s. This is a huge safety concern: title transportation part 571federal motor vehicle safety standards subpart bfederal motor vehicle safety standards 571. 108 standard no. 108; lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. S14. 4. 1. 4. 1. 3 where the sample device does not have uniform spectral characteristics in all useful directions, color measurements must be made at as many directions of view as are required to evaluate the color for those directions that apply to the end use of the device. S14. 4. 1. 4. 2. 1 red. The color of light emitted must fall within the following boundaries: y = 0. 33 (yellow boundary); y = 0. 98 − x (purple boundary). The 2017 florida statutes title xxiii motor vehicles; chapter 316 state uniform traffic control; 316. 221 taillamps (1) every motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, and pole trailer, and any other vehicle which is being drawn at the end of a combination of vehicles, shall be equipped with at least two taillamps mounted on the rear, which, when lighted as required in s. 316. 217, shall emit a red light plainly visible from a distance of 1,000 feet to the rear, except that passenger cars and pickup trucks manufactured or assembled prior to January 1, 1972, which were originally equipped with only one taillamp shall have at least one tail lamp. . . It seems that either the Mazda does not want to fix the problem, or my Mazda dealer does not want to take responsibility by replacing the defective taillight assembly. The taillight assembly should either be replaced at no cost or redesigned in a way to stop the melting from occurring. I have reported to this defect to our local Mazda dealer.

4 Brake Light problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

Purchased used in January of 2014. Noticed red plastic housing for brake lights melting above actual lightbulb. Brake lights now shine clear/white on top (where melted), instead of just red. Searched online and found several similar complaints. Checked other Mazda Cx-7's and can see they all have the same issue. I replaced lightbulbs to make sure they match manufactures requirements, they were correct and had melted plastic all over the bulb. Took to local mechanic who said it's probably a wiring issue. Took it to Mazda dealership, they said there was nothing they could do and had never heard of this issue before. I asked them to contact Mazda to see if they would replace light assemblies with unmelted units, they claimed they were told that Mazda would not replace.
