Happen 2 days ago while driving I noticed a burning smell of plastic inside the cabin and upon inspection I traced it at the rear brake lights. The bulbs gets to hot and melting the plastic inside the housing of the tail light assembly. This car has a clear tail light assembly and since it's burning the lens is becoming smoky. I think it is a safety concern that this bulb can cause a fire in the future.

Defective taillight assembly. They are both "melting" from the inside and have reported to the dealer and warranty carriers to no avail. They responded that I must have changed the bulbs for aftermarket ones and that could have possibly overheated and melted the assembly. I have not changed the bulbs until today (I bought the car new from the dealer). 8 out of 10 Cx-7's I see have the same issue, both tail lights melting. Looks like snow inside the assembly. This is a huge safety concern that could lead to potential accidents. Dealer does not want to take responsibility but I feel they should be replaced at no cost.

Yet another dim headlight has burned out. I've owned this vehicle 16 months, and this will be the 10th time changing the dim headlight bulb. 7 times on the drivers side, and this will make 3rd time on passenger side. As well as having to change a tail light on passenger side. All the Mazda dealers are aware of this problem, and I as well as they are wondering why there is no recall on this problem?!! this is an expensive, troublesome and very aggravating issue, and very inconvenient and unsafe!!.

The head lights and tail lights have been replaced over three times in least than two years. The condensation on the covers makes it difficult seeing where one is driving. This I believe is a safety issue. This condensation has also caused my radio to lose its sound. The battery will not start if it rains or its cold.
Both rear tail lights looked cloudy and the red color of the rear lights appeared white. I removed the light bulbs, thinking that maybe they had burned out. I noticed the light bulbs had melted through the internal red plastic lens of the tail light assembly and left a hole about the size of a quarter that allows the white light from the bulb to shine through. The melted plastic was all over the bulbs and there was a burnt plastic odor. The 7743 bulbs were both original to the car from Mazda when I purchased the car new in July 2009. I notified Mazda corporate and they had me take it to my dealer. They inspected the lights and said Mazda was willing to offer a $500 goodwill to replace the tail light assembly. That will not cover the cost of $1226. 77 without labor to have the dealer replace the tail lights. They gave me a case ref# 1-174187018. There should be a recall for this issue and the consumer should not have to pay to get the lights replaced. This is a problem when the light bulbs burn through the plastic tail light assembly. This is a design flaw.

1. Warning illuminator light on indicating driver/passenger airbags may require repair and/or immediate attention. 2. Rear tail light: bulb has become so hot the bulb is literally burning through the red casing of the break light - condensation or wiring is causing the bulb to overheat.
The headlight lenses on both sides are faded and dull; visibility is limited the tail light lenses on both sides are faded and dull.

Tail light lenses / plastic in the housing for stop lights, flashers / signal lights and back up lights ignited slowly and melted away. I realized that something was burning in my car and after a thorough search, I noticed that my left tail light was not working and the brake light / stop light appeared to be smoky. When I attempted to remove the light bulb to check the tail light housing, I noticed that the plastic lens within the tail light housing had melted and a strong smell of burnt plastic was felt immediately. I removed all the bulbs within the house to check for further meltdown of the plastic lens but at this time, it appears that only the brake light lens has melted to the point that I can now see the white light coming thru the outer shell of the red lens in the stop light. I have kept both light bulbs from the left and right tail lights, to show the melted plastic around the bulbs and I left the melted lens in the tail light housing to prove that there was a meltdown within the tail light housing. Note that the bulbs I removed 7743-12volt, are all original equipment from when I purchased the car from my local Mazda dealer on 12/7/2007. I am not sure if I should worry about the meltdown eventually becoming a electrical fire inside the tail light housing.
