3 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 01/01/2022

Low beam headlamps are extremely dim. Have bought new replacement headlamps and are still very dim. Bought both replacement headlamp housings thinking wiring could be compromised but that didn't help either. Replacing headlamps is difficult due to having to remove either the front tires or the front entire bumper assembly to switch out lamps. No fog lights are present on this model so makes driving at night very difficult. And unsafe.

4 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 12/24/2020

Car had been sitting in the driveway for 2 full days with no use. I walked outside to place trash in trash bin and noticed smoke coming from the drivers door. I quickly ran inside, grabbed fire extinguisher and put out the fire. It looks like the fire originated at the window motor or the window switch panel on the drivers side door.

5 Electrical System problem of the 2012 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 09/02/2020

Opened the driver side door to get into vehicle this morning all was fine. When I got to work and tried to open the driver door, it would not open. I got out of the car by climbing over the center console and opening the side door. I checked the other doors (and trunk) and they all opened. I checked the driver side door from outside the vehicle then and it still would not open. It's a safety hazard if you need to get out of the car quickly. Also I am a senior citizen so it's no longer easy to climb over the seats to open the passenger door instead.

8 Electrical System problem of the 2012 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 01/02/2019

The dim lights are so dangerous and do not provide any visibility at night at all. It is very dangerous to drive and I have had so many near misses while passing other vehicles or trying to not run off the road due to not being able to see. Plus the bulbs burn out several times throughout the year and I'm constantly having to replace them. But to drive at night is so scary because I cannot see the roadway due to poor lighting from the cars headlights. And also the motors that roll down the windows are constantly going out and I have to replace those as well otherwise my window gets stuck and I can't get it to roll back up.

13 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 10/06/2017

Took car to Mazda for airbag recall, replaced airbag but Mazda tells me the actual sensor that tells the airbag to deploy does not work and its my responsibility to fix it. Prior to the recall the sensor did not come up on the dash after the recall I now have a light on my dash and Mazda is telling me its 700. 00 to replace fix and part and labor. Electrical car shorts out all the time, windows, engine, lights work one day not the next when doors open. Car stalls out when driving and system reboots. Other issue is I have spent 7 thousand dollars in repairs on this car. I have black smoke coming out of the tail pipes, ive replaced thousands of dollars in parts. Engine light wont go off. I took it finally to auto zone for a free engine diagnosis to get a print out and now the emissions valves are showing faulty. Its burning 2 quarts of oil about every couple of weeks/monthly basis. Ive replaced motor mounts, coolant/oil parts, air compressor, headlights, bumber, wiper blades, electrical control panels, rocker arms, spoilers that have cracked with weather, the car still needs another motor mount, I now have a knock in the engine like its the lifters and I still have another year on this 5 year loan on this car. I have to keep rolling payments to the back of the loan to keep up with the repairs. Its very frustrating. Ive never had this many problems with any car I have purchased ever!!! even the parts department at Mazda has said what do you expect you purchased a plastic car on wheels. Is there any other people experiencing problems besides myself?.

14 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 09/04/2017

My daughter was driving the Cx-7 on the highway and it caught on fire. There was a pop and then smoke and flames. My daughter moved to the left shoulder as soon as she heard the pop and the vehicle engulfed in flames. The vehicle was a total loss. At the time of the incident the vehicle was in great condition. The vehicle was at 94,000 miles. An oil change was completed recently as well as all regular maintenance.

15 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 07/21/2017

I noticed tailights looked funny, so I removed them to inspect them. To my surprise there were melted holes in the taillight, and burn/charred marks on 2 of the light receptacles. Also having problems with front head light burning out. This appears to be a major defect with this model, every owner I have spoke with has same problem.

16 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 07/04/2017

On the 4th of July my family and I were driving to westchester from manhattan. We had a full tank of gas, recent oil change and new car battery. The car is always maintained and it has never given us any trouble. During our drive we noticed something was wrong. The the car started to feel hot, but we weren't too sure if it's just hot out or if there was something wrong, because the ac was on. We pulled over and turned the car off. We checked the coolant and saw that we had oil. We opened the trunk, felt around to see if it was hot and to see if we smell anything. It seemed fine. As soon as we drove off, not 2 minutes in, when driver said the gas petal felt weird, it dropped from 50 to 30 to 20mph and we heard a light drilling noise. As soon as we stepped out of the car, it was in flames. Our family could have died. . Read more...

18 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 03/17/2017

Shortly after purchasing vehicle replaced timing, turbo, exaust, ball joints, tie rod ends & much more. Timing was first, then driving and turbo went out. 2 days ago car sitting in driveway, not running, started smoking from under hood, butst into flames and burnt up. Mazda said no recalls, clearly not true according to website. Almost burnt my house also as it was sitting in driveway and couldnt be moved. If we would have been inside the car, I doubt we would of had time to get pulled over & out as thats how quick it burnt!.

19 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 05/31/2016

Took my car to an independent mechanic. Computer registers that there's something wrong with intake but, once removed it works fine. Checked egr ventilation system works fine. Car still cuts out during acceleration. Idles very high he informed me that there's a problem with my computer electrical systems. I need some information pertaining to Mazda recall.

20 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 04/17/2016

Was driving and all of a sudden lost power and a howling noise no check engine light came on. Pulled over to see what it was and nothing visible no leaks nothing. Had my wife hit the has and no noise. Stared driving and noise came back and white smoke. Just had an oil change done and next oil change due in about 1000 miles. Drove about 20 mph to get home check oil and it was ok. The white smoke makes me think the turbo went on my car. I just purchased this car in October of 2015. It's been back to the shop for electric problems with the key and radio that still not resolved. Radio shuts off and beeps that key is not in car.

21 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 02/14/2016

The head lights and tail lights have been replaced over three times in least than two years. The condensation on the covers makes it difficult seeing where one is driving. This I believe is a safety issue. This condensation has also caused my radio to lose its sound. The battery will not start if it rains or its cold.

22 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 02/12/2016

Car popped and then smoke came out of the hood and caught on fire burnt car up.

23 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 03/03/2015

24 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 01/20/2015

For the last 2 years I have been trying to get our headlights to work properly with no success. Even when both dim headlights are working they are so dimm we can't drive with them and if one of them goes out we might as well not have a headlight. I have a vw and if one of it's low beam lights is out it is 100 times brighter than the Mazda with both low beams. This is very dangerous because if we are out at night we have to use the high beams which blinds on coming traffic. I have taken it to jim ellis Mazda twice and the first time I didn't even get home with out the light falling out. Took it back and they assured me if was fixed but it wasn't and now the service rep nor the service manager will even return my call. I have had it to 3 different local shops and they can't fix it either. One of them finally got the light from falling out and replaced them both with the brighest light we could find and they are still very very dimm. I have also spent hundreds of dollars on this issue so it is not only dangerous but very disappointing not to mention very dangerous. Thanks, patrick foley.

25 Electrical System problem of the 2012 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

Window motors; shortly after I purchase my vehicle my driver window would be difficult to go up once it went down. Then it got worse and made a loud sound when it went up and one would have to pull it up. Now the driver window does that. Its hard to get it up once its down and makes a loud sound. I find it strange that both windows are now not working.

26 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

After I have come to a stop the check ingine light and tcs/dsc indicator light illuminate. My car remains on but when I push on the gas throttle my car does not go anywhere. I have to turn off my car for a minute or so and then restart before I can drive. This had happen 4 times now (in a 2 month time frame). It usually happens when I am at a stop light and do not have a way to get off of the road. The check ingine light stays on for a day or so and then goes away. Then it will happen again. I have been driving on the road when this has happened and had to pull off quickly on the side of the road. This is very dangerous! I have an appointment with a Mazda dealership to have it looked at.

27 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 07/15/2014

Prior to this date, which lead up to the last incident, upon getting the first few oil changes, at a dealership where I purchased the car, the engine began to sound like a truck (oil used was not synthetic and I were scheduled to come back in 5-months). When I inquired about it, I was told, "that was the way it was supposed to sound". After that comment, I changed to another dealership for service. The knocking continued, to this day, still. Over the years, the system lights would come on periodically (passenger air bag, check engine light and tire sensor) and the cooling fans would run after you turned the car off. Most times, they would reset themselves. Moving along, recently on 07/15/14, I was returning home for the evening and the car shut down on me. The steering control was hard but I kept it from crashing the wall on Lincoln dr. As I flagged the traffic to proceed, I was able to start the car only to advance to the end of the drive. Before I reached home, the car shut down 5-times. Finally reaching home it sat until I were able to get it to another dealer, closer to home. How about, the engine is shot, the radiator had a leek, I knew nothing about and the dealer says, "it will not start, now". I drove it to the dealer. Oil light was on and smelling as if I burned something, while it knocked. Check engine light and passenger air bag light were on when it cut-off, as I pulled into their driveway. I restarted the car found a parking space. Once the ignition shutdown, the cooling fans came on. Dilemma, I leased the car new in 2007. I bought it, with present car payments until 2016, in 2010. The dealer requests the engine and radiator to be replaced. There is no warranty, especially after 100,000 miles and I have scrap on my hands. Where does one go from here as Mazda used to be reputable? the engine shouldn't have any problems before 200,000 miles.

28 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 06/10/2014

I pulled from my driveway onto a highway decided to turn on headlights because of heavy tree cover coming up, it was almost full dark turned nobb on lever no lights hit breaks thank god those were still where I rememberd them hit fog lights they came on. Went to high beam fogs shut off (correct) high beams at least worked much to other drivers slowing swerving an just all an all pissed off. My high beams seem to turn the clock back to about mid day. Scared the hell out of me though an cost me a shift so I'm into this off the get go 735. 00$ lets see how much more its going to cost. So much for giving this rig fo my 16yearold in two months should have stayed with chev or Nissan.

29 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

Timing chain replacement resulted in a catastrophic failure of the high pressure fuel pump and its housing. Replacing the timing chain returned the engine to production line specs, that were too much for a worn fuel pump to handle. The increased pressure to the fuel pump shattered it into numerous pieces less than 100 miles after the timing chain was replaced. Said pieces became lodged inside the cam shaft and ended up bending all of the valves. The necessitated a complete valve job, removing and replacing the cylinder head, fuel pump, cam shaft and oil control calve. At worst, all timing chain replacements should require a fuel pump change in order to prevent the sequence of events that happened to my car and thousands of others.

30 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 05/16/2013

A/c compressor locked up.

31 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 04/02/2013

Engine began to vibrate, scraping sound, a/c stopped working. I had car towed to Mazda dealership where they replaced the a/c compressor, timing chain and actuator. Total cost $2306. 57. Dealership stated they brought pcm up to date. Egr valve indicator fault now active.

32 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 02/22/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Mazda Cx-7. Months after the vehicle was purchased, the instrument cluster gauges flickered and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The mechanic replaced the timing chain belt and the engine assembly. The dealer provided no invoice of the repairs. Months later, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for further inspection and the contact was to tow the vehicle back to the dealer to determine what parts they actually replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 34,366.

33 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 02/17/2013

I purchased the 2008 Mazda cx7 about 2 weeks ago and already replaced the compressor I first had white smoke coming out the tail pipe well I didn't think anything of it until someone told me that is not normal so a week later I started hearing noises like a diesel truck and a knocking noise so the next day I went to the dealership that sold me the vehicle and we drove the vehicle and he stated it was fine he then drove again and the vehicle locked up and they told me the compressor locked up now I'm hearing a ticking noise from the engine and they stated it was normal but it still concerns me cause reading other statement have me worried that the engine vavle will be next and I don't have money to repair a vehicle I'm a single parent of 4 kids.

34 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Air bag light comes on and off randomly with or without passenger in seat. Have had so many issues with this 2007 Cx-7 from 2 different complete a/c system rebuilds in first 2 years, belt tensioner pulley, egr valve codes (had to get egr valve cleaned), coolant temp codes (replaced thermostat & temp sensor) and now air bag random light. I am on a Mazda forum and honestly there should be more recalls on this vehicle due to the volume of complaints in several categories. . . Mazda responses to just about everything is to replace something for a minimum $500 up to thousands. . . I am tired of having to deal with Mazda and will never buy another. . . Traded in a 2001 chevy tahoe for Cx-7 with 250,000 mi and only had normal maintenance. The Cx-7 was a bad investment for me. . .

35 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 06/29/2012

Mazda Cx-7 2008; I purchased the car in September 2007 and it currently has 19,908 miles. The ac is breaking down. While I'm driving on the highway at 65mph, the pressure or high ac air pressure drops and hot air comes out. I also experienced burning smoke coming through the vents. I had the car inspected by the dealer back on August 3, 2012 and they replaced the valve cover. On September 1, 2012 I was driving again on the highway with my family and we experienced the same problem. The ac pressure dropped, hot air was flowing out of the ac and we smelled burning smoke. I took the car to the dealer this morning and they are now advising me that I have to replace the blower fan which is out of warranty (3 years/36k miles) and will cost $500. I have no problems paying for a part, but the valve cover, blower fan, or ac items shouldn't be breaking down at 19k original miles. I asked wayne Mazda service consultant: anthony cunha if the blower fan was part of the ac compressor and he said, "no". I strongly feel that Mazda installed faulty ac compressor/units on the 2008 Cx-7. This issue has to be investigated before a car catches on fire and people get burned alive or worse, a multiple car crash on the road resulting in deaths.
