1 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2024 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/25/2025

Car gives me emergency brake warnings about imminent collision maybe once or twice a week with nothing in front of me what so ever and once even straight up just brought me to a complete halt in the middle of the road with absolutely nothing in the road. The dealership basically told me it was a known issue and that “some models are more sensitive than others” and that they will be doing nothing about it. Different models of Mazda 3s from the same year are currently being investigated for the same recalls. This definitely needs to be addressed before I get into an accident.

2 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2025 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/30/2025

Second event: again about 30 mph, a fedex truck was turning left in front of me, as I steered to the right to pass it, the aeb stopped me, fortunately there was no one behind me this time. The last time this happened I was rear-ended.

3 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2023 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/16/2025

The active braking support feature of this vehicle falsely warns me of an imminent collision. It happens pretty often, the system is obviously not quite Smart enough. Last week, while accelerating away from a stop light in moderately heavy traffic, the active braking system applied the brakes in a panic manner, causing the vehicle to almost come to a complete stop, and I missed being rear-ended by the car behind me by inches. There appears to be no method to permanently deactivate this "safety" feature. I can turn it off through a series of menus in the infotainment system, but each time I start the car the system turns itself back on again.

4 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2025 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/15/2024

Car was turning left in front of me. I was going about 30 mph. I started to steer to the right of the car into a passing lane. The aeb stopped me and the guy behind me rear-ended me. The system did not need to react, I was not going to hit the car in front of me, but I could not steer to the right until I came to the passing lane.

5 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 09/06/2024

At red light, close behind car in front of the Mazda. After light turns green, start driving the Mazda after car in front moves forward. Although the car in front is moving forward at a higher rate of speed, increasing the distance between it and the Mazda, the automatic emergency brake kicks on and stops the vehicle abruptly. Luckily the cars behind the Mazda reacted in time and did not rear end it.

6 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 09/18/2023

While driving on a residential street the automatic emergency braking system activated and brought the car to a very abrupt stop but there was nothing in the front of the car to activate the system. There were no cars in the on-coming lane and no cars in the lane beside my car. When the car stopped the brake warning appeared in the windshield and a warning tone sounded. It was in the early evening and it was raining. Fortunately there were no cars behind me so there were no injuries. I took the car to the Mazda dealership and upon inspection they noted that the radar system associated with the automatic emergency braking system was malfunctioning and not correctly calculating the distance between the car and other objects. They are in the process of replacing the radar. If this had happened on the highway at higher speeds or if there had been a car behind me I would have been injured.

7 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/18/2023

My car's automatic emergency brake is deploying without warning, during driving, when there are no other cars in my forward proximity. I took it to the dealership to have it fixed, and on the drive home, it did it again. There is a recall for similar makes and models for this year, but my car has not been included.

8 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/17/2023

On 3 occasions may 2023, June 2023 and July 2023 the forward collison camera activated. In may and June it showed the vehicle to near stop like radar cruise control in rush hour speed traffic. In July 2023 it sounded the alarm and came to a full stop in heavy traffic. It occurs on bright hot days going straight no turns no oncoming traffic no traffic around and no obstacles hold or dips. This can cause the car to stop immediately and cause an accident. App detects problem with system but dealer cannot find problem and blame camera or gps or satellite radio factory equipped.

9 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2023 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/18/2023

Automatic emergency braking suddenly engaged while driving on the highway. The car decelerated abruptly to a complete stop, causing the driver behind to rear-end me. There were no vehicles or obstacles in front of the car when the brakes engaged - the closest car was at least 100 feet in front of me. This collision was clearly the result of a faulty automatic emergency braking system. I do not feel safe driving the car knowing this malfunction could happen again, especially at highway speeds. Sudden unexplained braking presents a huge safety hazard to all drivers, increasing the likelihood for collisions and injuries. There were no warnings or symptoms prior to the unexpected brake system activation. After the brakes activated mistakenly, warning beeps and “brake!” message appeared. Car has collision damage and has not yet been inspected by dealer. Police report filed.

10 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/30/2023

During a night drive, travelling approx. 40mph, car warning system audio blared a warning and suddenly braked causing car to skid (was raining) and causing driver to also jolt forward with momentum. There was very little time between beginning of audio warning and car slamming on brakes.

11 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/16/2022

The contact owns a 2018 Mazda Mazda3. The contact stated while driving 20 mph, the automatic emergency braking (aeb) warning light illuminated. The contact then slammed on the brakes and pulled to the side of the road. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring. The contact stated that when the failure occurred, she would shift into reverse(r) and shift back into drive(d) and wait for the aeb system to disengage. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring several times within a 10-minute drive. The contact stated that the vehicle had become undrivable. The contact's father, an independent mechanic, diagnosed that the aeb system software and wiring were faulty. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the year of the vehicle was not included in an unknown recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

12 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/23/2022

•the first incident I had with the sbs was about a month on the highway, I was approaching a vehicle that was braking due to upcoming traffic. I had plenty of time to stop, upwards of 8-10 car lengths. Yet my sbs kicked in and slammed the brakes, jarring me forward. Luckily no one was directly behind me at that time because I have no doubt it would have caused an accident. At that time, it was the only time it had occurred, so I wrote it off as the sensor being a bit too sensitive. •the second incident I have had was recent, 11/23. I was pulling into a parking spot at work, that has a concrete wall to section off parking spots. I was low speed, turned into the spot and the sbs activated, slamming the brakes, resulting in me being propelled into my steering wheel. I was roughly 5-6 feet away from the wall.

13 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/08/2022

Vehicle detects cars in other lane as an impeding collision in turns, activates emergency braking when no collision is imminent.

14 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 04/06/2022

The vehicle started surging at low soeeds and accelarating and control module issues for the transmission.

15 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 04/01/2022

I was driving down 2nd avenue in manhattan, traffic was crowded but flowing with an estimated speed of 20mph between lights. I believe the distance between my front bumper and the car ahead was only slightly under 2 car lengths in motion. Coming to a stop light, the car in front of me slowed and I followed, applying pressure to the brake gradually. Roughly 2-3 seconds into my braking, the forward collision warning activated (fast beep) followed by a hard brake causing myself and one passenger to lurch forward. The car behind me managed to hard brake before hitting me by a very small margin. As my car came to a near stop the space in front opened to several car lengths, that is a continuous application of gradual braking would have been totally sufficient to stop. Weather conditions were good. A similar situation had occurred to me before on the highway (unnecessary forward collision warning, but thankfully no auto brake) and so after this I decided to check the front for any obstruction of sensors and could not find any. I have heard from at least one other owner of a similar model Mazda that they have experienced the same during city/manhattan driving.

16 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/31/2022

Was letting car slow down for red light. No cars in front of me. Suddenly the car braked and the brake warning came on. I was pretty far back from the light. I took the car to the dealer and he said the occurrence did not show on the computer. There was a recall for this problem but not for my car. If someone had been behind me or if this happens on a busy street, I would be rear ended. There have been other computer problems with this car but they never happen when the dealer checks for them.

17 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/31/2022

I was traveling approximately 5 mph with approximately 15 feet from the car in front of me, maintaining a constant following distance. The collision warning sounded, followed by emergency braking within 1 second. No collision was imminent.

18 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/09/2022

I had two incidents during a short 25 min drive. Incident 1: I was in right side of the road, there were 2 lanes on this side. I was in the far left lane driving at below 30 mph, there was no vehicle directly behind me, and no vehicle directly in front of me. There was no vehicle in the oncoming side of traffic. There was 1 vehicle in the right lane next to me, about 20 feet behind. This vehicle slowed down to turn right into a parking lot. I did not have my foot on the brake at all, the vehicle behind me was in no way veering into my lane or doing anything abnormal. At this point, all of a sudden my car hard braked automatically. I had not touched the brake and I was driving straight and not veering. It was very sudden, and very hard braking, and it jerked me in my seat because of how hard the brake had suddenly turned on. Incident 2: after that first incident, there was a second time when this happened on the same trip. Once again, this time I was driving at about 35 mph. It was again where there were two lanes on my side of the road and I was in the left lane. No vehicles were in front or behind me. In the right lane next me to, there was 3 vehicles in a row about 25 feet behind me, and the front vehicle of them stopped to turn right into another parking lot area. The same thing happened, I did not have my foot on the brake at all, and had not veered at all and was driving straight. The brakes automatically came on suddenly in a very hard brake, resulting again in a sudden complete stop, even though there were no cars in directly in front or behind me. The vehicle was brought brand new at the dealership , so I had no cause to have the brakes inspected by the dealership, police, or insurance company. There was a warning that the safety features had been disabled due to obstruction of the front sensor, but there was no warning lamps that the emergency automatic brake was going to be used, it just happened.

19 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/29/2021

I was on the queensboro bridge headed from queens, NY into manhattan on the afternoon of August 29. Weather was partly cloudy and dry conditions. Traffic was bumper to bumper and moving anywhere from 0mph to maybe 5mph. I was in the middle of the bridge driving approximately 5mph and my 2020 Mazda 3 beeped (collision warning) and applied brakes. I was almost rear ended and my two passengers were jolted forward. I maintained a safe following distance the entire time. I believe a van on my left triggered my car’s actions as it passed. I was in no danger of getting into an accident although I was quite shaken up since this is the first time my car applied its brakes. I have an appointment to bring my car in and would like the automatic braking system disabled. Previously, the car from time to time has alerted of a collision always under 40mph and a previous inspection of my vehicle (after I reported collision warning activation) revealed everything was working properly.

20 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/15/2021

While driving the vehicle decided to suddenly brake . . . . . . . Thinking it was dangerous . . . . . Lucky no one was behind me . . . . . That was really scarry and could have caused an accident for no reason.

21 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/21/2021

Was driving in a car park and it randomly braked thinking someone was infront of me but there was nothing and the car behind me almost rear ended. Already fixed the recall last year according to Mazda. This is extremely scary and not sure what would have happened if this was on a highway.

22 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/29/2021

I was driving 35mph on a side street in “sport” mode. Car system beeped, car auto stopped, red circle with explanation mark and the word break appeared on my center console. My drive shift popped out of drive. No object was in front of my car, nothing ran out in front of it. Fortunately, there weren’t any other cars behind me or an accident would have followed.

23 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/25/2021

This car is only a few months old, with only 1600 miles. While driving at approx 30 or 40 mph the Smart brake system (sbs) falsely detects randomly an obstacle while driving, activating the automatic emergency warning light and alarm. The Mazda dealer was unable to duplicate or repair the problem although this has been reported numerous times and was part of an earlier recall. I. E. Mazda recall number 4219l.

24 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/01/2021

Gas smell / leak from gas tank when more than 7/8 full. Seems to leak from the top. Aeb frequently says disabled due to high interior car temperature. Even in winter when temperature below freezing.

25 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/19/2020

I was accelerating after a traffic light turned green and there were no cars in front of me when the car started braking automatically and came to a full stop. Luckily the car behind me was able to stop in time but there was no warning and no reason. I could have been rear ended. I pulled over and checked the two sensors and neither one was blocked (it had snowed here recently). I'm honestly scared this could happen again and Mazda is saying there are no open recalls about this for my car and that the car is fine.

26 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 11/18/2020

Without cause: the vehicle will suddenly detect the presence of another vehicle and/or sense an imminent collision and subsequently applies the automatic braking system, causing the vehicle speed to suddenly decrease. This has happened repeatedly over the course of driving the car and resulted in being almost rear ended numerous times. This is a very dangerous scenario and could easily cause a severe accident, especially on the freeway when everyone around is going really fast and needs more time to react to the sudden and sharp slowing down of my vehicle. This happens in various locations, freeway, highway, or in the city. I have taken the car to the dealership numerous times to have this fixed, but get a different answer every time I take it in. But the problem remains unresolved and continues to place me, my passengers, other drivers, and even pedestrians in harms way.
