Mazda MAZDA3 owners have reported 17 problems related to automatic transmission control module (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Mazda MAZDA3 based on all problems reported for the MAZDA3.
Transmission control module issues. Car was driving on the expressway and wouldn’t shift out of second gear. Engine light and at light came on. Had to drive slowly on the expressway and get off on the closest exit. Cars were speeding past me and I had to be careful not to get hit. Research and shop shows the 2010 Mazda 3 vehicles have lots of issue with the tcm because they get hot due to there location.

Transmission control module malfunction. The at light came on and the car made a jerking motion and a clunking noise. It lost power and would not shift which is very dangerous in moving traffic. It put me at risk for getting hit by another vehicle not expecting the abrupt change in speed by my vehicle. The check engine light is now lit up. There were no warning lights before the vehicle’s transmission malfunctioned. A code came up on the vehicle when tested. U0101 lost communication with tcm. From what I have read, researched, and have been told this issue is very common for certain years of Mazda 3’s including mine.

The transmission control module (tcm) has gone out on my car, causing it to shift to 2nd gear while doing 75mph with cars around me, and would no longer shift out of 2nd gear, or into reverse. It was an extremely dangerous situation that made me come very close to wrecking into a car, as well as the many cars behind me that had to emergency brake due to my rapid deceleration, especially without and brake lights coming on because it was engine braking. Doing a simple google search show that this is an extremely well-known problem effecting almost every Mazda 3 that used this tcm in 2010-2011. Any mechanic will tell you it's a known problem, and that it was due to where and how Mazda placed the computer, which causes it to overheat and fail without warning. I'm not sure why there has not been a recall on this issue with how prevalent it has been, and how easily recognized it is by mechanics. It is not a cheap fix, and can cause many other major issues leading up to requiring a full new transmission, if the problem did not already cause the car to wreck!.
The tcm - transmission control module defected - gear lights disappear, down shifting problems, driving, stop in the middle of highway or road while driving, kick / jerk when atf lights comes on goes off then check engine lights comes on all fluids has been changed drove good for a few days started again took to advance auto parts and auto zone codes stated electrical tcm computer issues, delayed shifting, check engine and atf lights comes on , dtc codes u1000, lost communication with tcm. The tcm overheats because it is sitting directly on the transmission, under the battery box. My child safety was put at risk daily. This car fails to stop at a traffic light, a slow response when approaching a stop sign or traffic light is dangerous and scary. Mazda's are not safe to drive with a bad tcm, when a driver cannot anticipate the acceleration or deceleration of this vehicle or any Mazda with a tcm the situation is very dangerous. I visited flow Mazda 04/21/2022 fayetteville north carolina invoice number q10296 took the part for viewing. The dealership informed us that no one has this part and do not know if the will ever have another shipment. We contacted salvage yards received the same answer. I have sent 8 emails stating problems to the manufacture (Mitsubishi electric company) no response thus far. This is my daughter first year in college she saved her summer money 6600. 00$ and purchased this car in March 16, 2022 from knox auto sales 107 nc-55e, dunn nc 28334. First day we had all fluids changed. The third day she went to visit her dad 20 minute drive atf light came on went to auto zone code warning electrical communication, purchased new battery drove car for 5 days good took car to college in charlotte came home birthday Friday check engine light and tcm code went to church easter Sunday almost didn't make it home. According to the you tube channels and social media this is a known failure for Mazda automobiles why are the cars being sold?.
I had my Mazda 3 for a couple of days and I'm driving down the road and all of a sudden my car jerked so bad I thought I had hit the brakes or hot something I couldn't see. But I hadn't hit the brakes nor did I hit anything. I took it to Mazda in panama city and they told me it was my transmission control module. It forgets to shift. It's located under the battery and I'm aware that this part of car engine is supposed to breath to work right. I just know it doesn't work right and every time I drove my car it's steady jerking and snatching my wheel. I can't afford to pay for something like this and I have no other vehicle to drive. I know this is an engine problem so what can be done.
At and yellow check engine light came on and car was in limp mode first thing in morning after having no issues with my Mazda previously. Codes came back with solenoids a, b, c, d, e all have electrical failure, and issues with the oxygen sensor. My car has had regular maintenance done on it. No signs or symptoms of transmission failure beforehand. Happened instantly overnight. Tcm is not in stock anywhere and I suspect that is the culprit due to other Mazda owners similar situations. 95k miles.

The vehicle suddenly jerks, pulls, stops after about 10 minutes running time. Told by mechanic that it is the transmission control module. He said this model is notorious for having them fail. They are on back order with Mazda with no lead time, which also says something. The vehicle is very dangerous to drive. Mechanic said the original design has bad placement which causes them to heat up and fail.
This vehicle has had 3 repeated major service repair attempts related to the tcm, pcm at light, check engine/transmission light trying to resolve this issue permanently. This vehicle was in motion and stationary on a city street when experiencing all of these problems. This vehicle has only approximately 68,000 miles. This is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed by Mazda or buy back this vehicle. No one should have to be faced with these kinds of concerns. These systemic issues has not been favorable in my view and will having a major determing effect in future car purchase. Brand loyalty. [blah, blah, blah. . . ] 4-3-2019 at 9:27am.
10+ incidents of sudden unintended acceleration since Aug 2018. Always at freeway speed of traffic, I. E. 70-75mph. Occurs when intentionally decelerating (easing off the gas pedal and initiating braking). Rpms jump to 7 or 8. Acceleration immediately drops and steads after tapping/applying pressure to brakes. Has been taken ralph thayer dealership 3 times -- aug2018, jan2019, feb2019. Each time vehicle kept for a week but unable to duplicate issue. Data recorder was installed in jan2019. Despite a several minute long episode on Feb 22, 2019 in which the car behaved erratically (buckling and jolting) and wouldn't accelerate more than 60 mph while the rpms were high (4-5) for several minutes, this was somehow not sensed by the data recorder. My own guess is an issue with the pcm or the automatic transmission control module. Have suas affected transmission? seems to be a known issue yet the dealer/Mazda reaction is perfunctory at best. No commitment to resolve. E. G. Because my driving was limited while the recorder was in, I requested that it be left in for 3 months. Mazda refused, stating that if it happens again (and it will), they'll reinstall the recorder. That a collision hasn't happened is just luck. A serious accident caused by this vehicle is imminent since these issues adversely affect the ability to control the vehicle. I also don't relish being my own crash test dummy. There is nothing they can do beyond a series of expensive parts replacements based on their guesses? I have some video and photos per their request, but note that attempting to photograph or video the dashboard while driving is an extra bullet in what already feels like russian roulette. I've attached a summary of events provided to Mazda in January and the most recent mechanic's report. $800 suggested for guess-based tcm replacement, $240 inconclusive tests, no loaner provided.

Since the course of about a year, I have experienced traumatic moments while driving my vehicle pertaining to it's electrical/transmission functionality. When driving the vehicle at normal speeds (ex. 50mph) the Mazda would buckle, rev abnormally, all while my gear indicator would flicker. This would happen after about 10 minutes of driving and continue on for the remainder of the drive about every 20 minute interval. This is quite unsafe, and the repairs that multiple mechanics including Mazda themselves suggested to repair the issue did not accomplish anything unfortunately. Repairmen flushed and replaced the automatic transmission fluid, replaced my output speed sensor, changed out my shift solenoids, gear shifter, and even replaced my entire pcm. I have not only taken pictures and videos of these horrid incidences, but there seems to be other instances of people having this identical issue with their Mazda's as well. If there is a way to show my video examples for study, then I will gladly send them.
I was driving and felt the car down shift on the highway, at light came on and some sort of traction control light came on. Rpm would go crazy sometimes while this happened. When I got home and put it on park it shifted really hard tried to put it on drive and shifted hard. As well so I let it be. I heard about this happening to other Mazdas as well please investigate this supposedly its a issue with the transmission control module.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Mazda 3. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the transmission control module failed. The contact stated that the vehicle began jerking and shaking. The contact stated that when the gears were shifted there was a violent "jolt-like" jerking that occurred. In addition, the "check engine" and "automatic transmission" lights illuminated. Wilson automotive of orange county, California was made aware of the failure and stated that the warranty on the vehicle had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,400. Ad.

The day was hot and I was in stop and go traffic with the ac set to 72 degrees in my 2015 Mazda 3 with just 21k miles on it. My car unexpectedly stalled and the check engine and charging system/battery lights came on briefly in the dash. I had to shift into park and push the button to restart my vehicle. The car's ecu/pcm did not set any codes and the problem has not occurred again since that hot day. This is a danger because the sudden loss of power could result in a rear end collision luckily I was in stop and go traffic. Dealer and Mazda have been slow to investigate this thoroughly. Feels like they just want to send me on my way without doing a thorough investigation of this issue.

On 04/01/2015 while driving in the city at about 25 mph the transmission went from 4 to 1, and the car jerked really hard. At light and check engine light came on. After pulling over and turning the car off and waiting a couple of minutes, at light went away, check engine light was still on. The same happened in two days, then in 5 days while driving on a freeway with speed 65 mph - the car jerked and bucked at full speed, at light and check engine light on, transmission went from 5 to 1 to 3, tachometer went from 2500 rpm to over 4000 rpm - thankfully I did not hit anyone and I wasn't hit by other cars when that happened (I was very scared!). I got the car towed to the dealership, and after two days of diagnostics the answer - transmission control module (tcm) is bad. I did research online - very common problem with cars of this make, model and year. Dealer can not fix it because tcm is on nationwide back order! I have no car for a week now and it could be a month when the part will be available. This kind of problem worth of a recall due to the safety concerns and the cost of the replacement - over $1000 including diagnostics.
The contact owns a 2006 Mazda Mazda3. The contact stated when the engine was started, the automatic transmission light, and engine light illuminated simultaneously. The vehicle was taken to the transmission mechanic for diagnostic testing who confirmed the failure was within the transmission control module. The transmission control module was replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure and current mileage was 110,000.

2004 Mazda 3 automatic transmission failures. 1st offense, it required a pcm valve/solenoid replaced. , 2nd offense: transmission lost 4th gear and wont shift into 4th gear. Car is in a shop for diagnosis. Only goes up to 35 mph if shift manually and in 3rd gear, otherwise it revs, jerks, stalls, etc .
