Steering Column Problems of Mazda MAZDA3

The contact owns a 2009 Mazda, Mazda3. The contact stated a loud squeaking noise was coming from the steering column. The vehicle was not taken to an authorized dealer to have the failure diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and advised to take the vehicle to a dealer to have the failure diagnosed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where power steering fluid was added to the vehicle. The failure continued. The failure mileage was 67,000 and the current mileage was 67,497.

2008 Mazda 3i. Steering column shuddered violently when brakes were applied at high speeds (60 mph).

Ticking / clicking sound coming from steering column / dashboards area. Not necessarily when on rough road, but that seems to magnify it. Service department aware of, and heard noise but could not pinpoint problem. Head of service department referred me to Mazda north America for further assistance. Not corrected as of 1/06.

The consumer had a concern that the plastic cover that goes around the steering column would come loose while driving a 2004 Mazda 3, when this occurred it interfered with the braking when needed. The condition almost caused a vehicle crash. After making a left turn the consumer needed to slow down found brake pedal hindered by loose cover on stering column. The lower control arm was bent.
