While driving between 1500 and 2500 rpms, the car suddenly drops in rpms and either stalls altogether or starts making a jerking motion and thudding noise. Cannot get out of the gear unless you jam on the accelerator. Extremely dangerous and near undrivable on the highway. Had has happened twice before, ruining the engine coils the first time and the catalytic converters the second time. It seems the pcm is faulty and ruining all of the associated parts. Have read up on the topic and many other owners have have the same issue with the stalling and jolting of the issue, all associated with the pcm. This very much seems like an issue that should be recalled, as the repairs are significantly costly and affect many vehicles.

Sudden increase of acceleration. . . Tachometer up to 3000, engine very fast, had a hard time holding brakes until I was able to put in park and turn off the engine. Another problem is loss of idle so low it will stall out if alittle gas is not applied at a stop. Car bucks and jerks like its misfiring but have had a complete tune up and put on diagnostic machine with no results. . . Or changes in how the car runs! have had all of these problems 9-15 times over the last 6. 5 yrs. Since purchased. Its been very scary not knowing when or where it may happen again. Serious problems exist even with the recall work done.

Vehicle stalls without notice. On 3-2-04 I took the car to be fixed but the very next day it stalled again. When I called to let the wantagh service dealer know about what happened, they were very nasty and acted as if I were complaining for nothing. They made me feel like it was my problem, I don't know if this is because the car is still under warranty and they are not able to charge for their service. Yet, I purchased the extended warranty for 2 extra years, which entitles me to this service.

I have been informed that my 2001 Mazda Tribute has a various engine parts that are not working properly, casusing it to stall when accelerating. This happened to me on the entrance ramp to the freeway, and I was very nearly rear-ended by a vehicle going between 50-65 mph. I must say, it was one of the scariest events of my life, and I am not at all pleased with the fact that this happened in a car that's barely 3 years old!.
