Mazda Tribute owners have reported 11 problems related to engine cooling system (under the engine and engine cooling category).
On June 25, 2013 @ 11:00am I called Mazda corporation (reference call number: 148295420) about recalls associated with my Mazda Tribute 2003 and was told that the recalls were not assigned to the VIN number of my vehicle. The Mazda representative stated that only the seat beat adjustment has been assigned to my vehicle and that I do not qualify for the recall. Mazda will not honor the recall. I bought the Tribute in 2010 from a dealership; thus, was not aware of the recalls. I have been having a lot of problems with the vehicle and have spent a lot of money trying to fix it. I have a 13 and 14 year old girls and am a single parent. According to the recall, the vehicle is not safe. I cannot afford right now to purchase another vehicle. I am only asking Mazda to honor the recalls. Please see the recall notice below from Mazda. Item affected: engine and engine cooling date announced: 7/27/2012 description of recall: Mazda is recalling certain model year 2001 through 2006, and 2008, Tribute vehicles equipped with 3. 0l v6 engines and speed control. Inadequate clearance between the engine cover and the speed control cable connector could result in a stuck throttle when the accelerator pedal is fully or almost-fully depressed. This risk exists regardless of whether or not speed control (cruise control) is used. Action needed to fix Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles by increasing the engine cover clearance, free of charge. Remedy parts are now available. The safety recall began on September 13, 2012. Owners may contact Mazda customer assistance center at 1-800-222-5500, option #6.

Mazda Tribute SUV - 2000 - - recall/replace 2004 O2 sensor, began problems after this. Incident: after driving and engine is hot, then stop at the store for 10-20 mins. , then car will not restart or stay started. If it restarts, I continue to have to press the gas while stopping and braking to keep the engine from dying. If the engine has cool temperature outdoors or has ample time to cool down, this problem does not occur.

Coolant level light kept coming on in the car. Had the coolant level sensor replaced at the dealership in which they said they had fixed at least 4 in the same week. Should be a recall!.
The madza Tribute 2001 stalls without warning, at varying speeds. Both the brakes and the steering system are inoperable. The car starts again after this occurs. This has happened 5 times! luckily, my son who drives this car hasn't been injured. But what about the next time? what if he is driving on the expressway at 55 or 65 miles an hour? can Mazda assure me that he won't be seriously injured or killed? the service department has offered several explanations after verifying that this is a on going problem with this vehicle. We have been told that the air intake valve sticks when carbon builds up on it. Now we are told it is a flaw in the computer. Clearly there is a serious design flaw which the service departments have been unable to repair. This car is a disaster waiting to happen! how can I possibly allow my son to drive this vehicle?!!.
When driving at any speed engine cuts off, causing steering and brakes to lock up. Driver has to let vehicle sit a few moments and then restart the ignition. Dealer has seen vehicle several times and cant fix it. Consumer stated that automatic windows malfunctioned. Coolant light cames on and dealer determined that there was leak in coolant bottle. The engine light cames on due to exhaust gas recirculation valve failure.
The coolant indicator lamp illuminated, the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they found that the coolant sensor was defective, the consumer later found out that the vehicles coolant sensor had aleady been replaced Dec 2000 prior to purchase, this information was never disclosed to the consumer.
