Mazda Tribute owners have reported 6 problems related to fuel pump (under the gasoline fuel system category).
The contact owns a 2006 Mazda Tribute. While driving 62 mph, the vehicle appeared to have lost power without warning and would not accelerate normally. The vehicle continued to hesitate for approximately 40 to 50 more miles. The contact had to pump the accelerator pedal until the vehicle reached 60 mph. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was then taken to a Mazda dealer and they performed a diagnostic. The results determined that there was a loose ground on the fuel pump driver module. The loose ground was cleaned and tightened. There is a service bulletin for this exact failure. The bulletin number was unknown. The current mileage was 19,136 and failure mileage was 18,900.

Vehicle exhibited extended crank prior to the incident. As it was nearing 30k mile service, we decided to wait and have dealer inspect at that time. Before the car went in for maintenance, it shut down going uphill. Although it would restart, it ran rough and had to be towed to the nearest dealership. #3 ignition coil was replaced that that visit. The car began starting hard again in late 2007 and was brought to the dealership again - this visit, they replaced the idle air valve, hoping to fix the problem. It continued to start hard and 2 weeks later it ran very rough again on startup. This visit had the dealership replace the #2 ignition coil. The car continued to start hard, was returned to the dealership, and the #4 ignition coil was replaced. Hard start continued, car back to dealer again, fuel pump replaced. This brings us to today - the car has been out of the shop for 6 days and is starting worse than it had been prior to the last visit. Note: warranty ran out on the vehicle on 4/2 and the dealer and Mazda would like me to start paying for repair. This is a major safety issue, as the car shut down while driving. On top of that, the frustration of having to go back and forth from the dealership has been awful. Also, note: the hard start was easiest to duplicate after the car had been driven and warmed up, rested off for ~ 1 hour, then restarted (like when you got ot the grocery store).

: the contact stated while traveling in hot weather, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle stopped. The vehicle restarted after the transmission was shifted into park, and the ignition was turned off, then turned on. The dealership was unable to determine the problem. The fuel pump and crank shaft position sensor was replaced. Updated 10/30/06.

On 11/07/05 vehicle was brought in due to stalling when slowing and stopping. The engine sensor was replaced. On 11/08/05 vehicle was bought back still stalling. Ac gasket and idle valve were replaced. We were told our engine was damaged and dealer would not fix. The day I picked up the vehicle it stalled at 60 mph. Three days later it would not start. Brought vehicle to local mechanic, fuel pump had to be replaced. The vehicle is undrivable. This is the second time I have filed a complaint about this vehicle.

1). Three recalls on my vehicle: 1st - power train control module re-calibration recall 1904d. 2nd - b4000 dpfe sensor warranty extension program special service program (ssp) 59. 3rd - accelerator cable recall 2704l. Completed all recalls; last on 3/2/05. 2). 2/2005 I started experiencing intermittent problems with my vehicle: - the car stops running usually when slowing down for a stop sign or red light. The car has stopped in the middle of traffic, in the height of rush hour. The car stopped exiting a post office backing up traffic causing motorist to seek another exit. Have had various other stops but have been lucky not to cause any accidents. - the car will not start; usually upon short trips. After waiting 3 - 5 minutes have been able to start the vehicle. Have encountered this numerous times. I limit driving at night due to the unpredictability and lack of confidence in my vehicle. 3) I have had my car service at oakland Mazda (510)893-7282 (3/2/05-recall, 4/9/05, 4/19/05, 5/11/05, & 6/20/05) and have discussed the problem with the serv advisor, ken miller & service manager. The dealership informed me they thoroughly checked-out my car each time they serviced it. They have repeated the recall which mostly describes my symptoms (re-calibration recall 1904d) at least twice. They also contacted the Mazda headquarters service center for documentation on how to check out my vehicle. I also contacted the Mazda customer assistance center at (800)222-5500 in may of 2005, they told me that if necessary they could dispatch a service technician to fly in and repair my vehicle; they also sent a report to the oakland district mgr. I contacted the Mazda cust assist center again on 7/14/05 , they told me that they would not be able to help me further with my car problem. 7/15- I contacted the dealership in fremont (where I bought the car) explained my problems and asked if they would consider taking a look at my car but the serv mgr never called me back.
While driving vehicle will stalll and lose all power. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer replaced a delay chip in fuel pump, but problem still exists.
