Mazda Tribute owners have reported 8 problems related to tank assembly (under the gasoline fuel system category).
Accelerator pedal is sticky. It becomes very difficult to push, then will suddenly release and allow you to accelerate. Happens every morning, and lasts for about 5-10 minutes. Condition is worsening. Dealer "cleaned throttle body", but it did not fix the problem. I returned the vehicle to the dealer who said the throttle body should be replaced. Mazda extended warranty initially denied my claim for repair stating "not a covered part". However, they now say it is a covered part, but still have not yet agreed to pay for the repair. I was told that if I pay $100 that the dealer would run some type of cleaner into my gas tank, but with no guarantee it would work. This would not be covered by my extended warranty. A badly sticking accelerator pedal should now be classified as a safety concern!.

I purchased a 2005 Mazda Tribute in July, 2005. The sticker on the car had an average mileage of 19 to 24 miles per gallon. I, to this date get 11 to 13 miles per gallon and 17-19 on the highway. I truly believe there is a problem in the fuel system or the engine. Contacted Mazda and was told epa was to blame and I needed to let the car get broken in. I currently have 6500 miles and still get 11-13 miles per gallon. I have a 16 gallon tank and get anywhere between 180 to 200 miles per tank. Dealer says nothing wrong and hasn't replaced anything.

When fueling I constantly have to over ride the pump due to the fact that pump turns off prematurely. Even though I don't believe this to be a safety hazard I do find it an inconvenience. I have also have read that this is a pretty common problem.
Consumer smelled gas fumes around the outside of the vehicle. Consumer noticed a fuel leakage. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Engine check light came on, and consumer smelled fuel inside vehicle. Dealer informed her that fuel tank was leaking. But that fuel tanks were on back order. Could not give her a time frame, but assured her vehicle was safe to drive.
A severe gasoline odor. Happens various times. While driving, odor comes through the vents, or after turning off car, extreme gas odor. Happens a various times, at various speeds, at various levels of gas in my gas tank. We have taken it to the Mazda dealership more times than I can remember. They have supposedly contacted Mazda corporate and can never find a problem. The car completely shut down one time. I was able to pull over and re-start the car. The dealership could find no reason for this either but said they had a similar incident with another Mazda Tribute owner. I am obviously concerned about our health and safety with this vehicle. Thank you for any help you can give me. Andrea ledenbach.
