Mercedes Benz C230 owners have reported 6 problems related to transmission stuck in gear (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My vehicle became stuck on one gear as I entered the freeway. I had my kids with me and I had to pull over the shoulder. After turning it off and on again, it reset itself. This has happened 4 times now. Now its happening on stop lights as I try to accelerate, it feels its dragging and cars behind me are honking at me to move out of the way. It is unsafe and I cant afford to fix it or buy another one. I researched and found much more people are having this problem. Why has no one done anything about this issue? my wife drives this car and I am not sure if she will respond in the same fashion as I did when presented with this dangerous event if it occurs. I wanted someone with some clout to know about this just in case a disaster occurs I know who to go after. Please make Mercedes Benz responsible and fix this free of charge. This is my only car and it was not cheap and now to pay for a problem I am sure they know is a problem. . . . Its ridiculous. Please help before someone gets hurt. Just look up 2007 Mercedes Benz C230 stuck on gear and you will see how big this issue is. I bought the car in January 2016.

Before I brought my vehicle to the shop I had experienced this transmission issue several times, all resulting in my car getting stuck in a gear. If I pulled over and restarted my car, everything would work fine. I did not have a check engine light error, but I ran the code with my obdi checker, and received an error in regards to the speed sensor. After some research of this issue, it appeared to be a known issue with this type a car. I took the car into a local transmission shop and the repairs totaled $1450. Please note that the local shop still had to take the car to the mercedes dealership and get the part programmed (tow to dealership $147 and programming $211. 20). Since this is a wide spread known issue, why is mercedes providing a reasonable remedy, thank you.
My transmission became stuck in a high gear and would not accelerate. Could not manually change gears and the only way to remedy this issue was to park and turn off the car. I had to use my hazard flashers and drive in traffic for a few miles until I could get over to the shoulder of the road. This is very dangerous and troublesome to me. It appears to be a common issue on this site as well, please look into this.
I was making a right turn stop at a light, when I attempted to acclerate the car took off as it was at a higher gear. Would not pick speed and high rpm. There was a pedestrian riding his bike and made a right turn and because his view was block my the sun he ended up rear ending my car and feel off his bike. The reason I am filing this compliant is if my car was not having this issue the accident could have been prevented bc there was no car in front of me. Thank god the rider was not badly hurt and just had a few scrapes and my car was okay so we went our separate ways. There are so many compliant about ths same issues about the car not accelerating and gears getting stuck it is becoming ridiculous. I am sure there has been cases where people are severly injured or passed away bc of this issue but ones that didn't survived are not here to file their compliants. This is a serious matter and a recall needs to be done before bodies actually start piling up. Mercedes. Benz are known to be high end luxury cars and they need to actually drive like ones. . The manufacturer need to step up and acknowledge this important matter and do the recall.

I have periodically had this problem. From a stop, the car will not accelerate. It feels like it is stuck in a higher gear. Or, the opposite happens. I will accelerate, and the car will not change from second to third gear. I have to pull over and restart the engine, and then it works. I have seen numerous complaints online from other owners that they have the same problem. I took it to mb and paid 1450. 34 to get the electric hydro control unit in my transmission replaced.
On or about may 17, 2011 my 2006 C230 at the time with 83,312, you drive normally, make a stop on a traffic light for example, when it's time to go, you release the brake, accelerate, and nothing happens except for rpms revving up. The gear shifter is in "d" drive, gauge between the odometer/tachometer shows "d" drive as well, however the car acts as if it was in neutral!!! shifting into neutral, reverse, or park, or back into drive - doesn't help! it's like a transmission is stuck in neutral!!! also, shifting into d+/- to engage manual shifting doesn't work! and as far as you keep moving the shifter into reverse, neutral, manual shift, drive - the car electronic gear display on the dashboard still shows that the car is in "d" drive regardless of what position you move the shifter; and the car behaves as if it was in neutral all this time (you accelerate, rpms goes up, remove the foot from the pedal - engine idles). The only way to make the transmission work again is to shift it into park "p", and then turn off the engine, and then turn the engine back on, and then transmission works well again for tens or hundreds of miles before it gets "neutralized" paralyzed again. This also happened to me while driving down the I-5 in California around 70 mph's and I had to pull to the side of the road and turn the car off and back on, in order for it to start working normal. That is dangerous, what if I wouldn't have been able to stop on the side of the road it would have caused an accident.
