Key is not recognized when inserted in the ignition. Therefore, car will not start. Dealership states that the electronic ignition switch (eis)is faulty. This problem is well documented through out the USA. The repair costs is estimated at $800-2,000 dollars. On July 19th, 2016, I ran several errands. Once at home, I tried to start my car. Front driver seat belt make the airbag light come on and off when driving on the dash. Car will not start shortage that kill the battier this is my second battier in a week.

Stationary while at the rest area during a hot summer day on the side of the highway. The steering column or electronic steering lock (esl) failed and the car would not start. This particular part is faulty on most 2008-2009 mercedes C300. Several hundred thousands are having issues with this particular part and at moments they get it working and at other times not so much. This part needs to be recalled since it is a dealer only replacement part and no one can touch is besides the dealer due to theft and security measures. Mercedes has this particular issue cornered and is not doing anything to work with the customer. If I would have been stuck on the side of the highway with children that's a safety risk and I believe mercedes should recall this particular issue and be loyal to its customers.

The car would not start, the electrical component of the steering wheal malfunctioned, only mbz has the part cost $1900 to replace the electrical part. Dealer told me common issue its just matter of time for the part to fail.

Vehicle will not start. It is a common problem and it has left me stranded for several weeks. I get "remove key from ignition" when either key is placed in the ignition. This problem is consistent with other C300 owners around the country. When I told my service advisor at the dealership where I purchased the vehicle, j was told it could range from $475 to over $2000. The keys and the ignition system are the culprit and mercedes has yet to issue a recall for this.

Thought maybe the battery but when the jump didnt work I had to take it to the dealership who said it was the electronic steering colum that failed and needed to be replaced for $1460. . . No other indication that something was wrong. . . Just stopped working. Apparently this is a common problem that should be considered a recall. . . Never getring another mercedes.

Car will not start, failure in the electrical steering system.

Without a warning or any dashboard lights my car did not start one morning, it made a gunck sound and absolutely nothing would turn on. My neighbor then tried to jump start the car and only the radio would turn on. I then called aaa who was the able to start my car and said the battery was good and that I should be okay to drive. (I had left nothing on the night before) I then went on a 3 hour drive during the christmas break and about and hour in the car began acting weird almost as if it wanted to shut off, and randomly a service "abs and esp" and "air bag" and few other things would come on the dash board. As soon as I got to my destination and turned the car off the car went completely dead, this time I wouldn't even let me lock the car with the fob. I had aaa come again and they were able to with a little playing around with the key and ignition, turn it back on. My whole drive back was worse than the drive there that I even thought I wasn't going to make it home safely but I made and again as soon as I parked, the car died. Since it was the holidays I wasn't able to go to mercedes and in the meantime for 3 days tried to get it on but nothing with both sets of keys, this time it wouldn't even let me unlock the car and the alarm kept going off when I would try to unlock it . I called aaa again to unlock and start my car but were unable to start the car, the alarm kept going off every time we put the key in the ignition. When looking at the symptoms my car is having online this seems to be a common problem in this make and model. The closest mb to me is about a 40 minute drive and will be very costly to have it towed and from the complaints read most have had to pay between 1200 -1500 to get this problem fixed. I have had my vehicle for under 2 years, 95k miles.

So my 2009 C300 out of nowhere decides not to turn on when I put the key into the ignition. The key unlocks the doors and the instrument panel information comes on. However, the windows will not roll up or down. The glove compartment light will not turn on and the car will not start. Initially, I tried my spare key fob (that I never use) and it did turn the engine on and I drove the car around for about 45 minutes thinking it was a battery issue. I went to class on the date of 11/13/2015 and when I came out the vehicle would not start. After having the vehicle towed to the dealership, I was advised it would be $952. 56 for an electrical issue due to no fault of my own and can happen at anytime. So I inquired on how long this would be covered for? I was told its electrical and can happen at anytime, it's like a cellphone or a computer. Yet those have warranties against issues like that whereas something I paid thousands of dollars does not. I have seen many complaints about this online and don't understand why they have not recalled this and continue to rip consumers off. Some even advising this has happen to them on the road which could very well lead to a major accident , it it has not already.

I parked the car in the garage early after noon in November 2014, and some time later that day the car would not start. I turn the steering wheel right then left thinking it might be a steering lock problem and kept messing with steering column trying to find problem being possibly a pinched wire and the the instrument cluster lights came on do a self check then car started. Used scan tool to retrieve codes and none were found. Second incident occurred when I parked at a gas station and paid for gas and the car did not start, nor did the usual instrument cluster lights come on when the key is inserted and turned as in the first time it happened. I started to adjust the steering column such as to raise the wheel and the lights came on, and I turned the key and the car started. Ran a diagnostic check for codes and still no codes stored. Third incident, parked the car after leaving church service and then was asked to move it from the lawn so the yard could be worked on. I started the car and turned the wheel as to back it up into a different location. I shut the car off with the wheel turned all the way to the right and then went to start it 2 to 3 hours later and it would not start and steering wheel is all the way to the right and locked in that position. Things I checked. Charged battery, both key fabs lock and unlock vehicle, the key is recognized by the security system but will not start the car. The key is also recognized when in the ignition. Audio warning comes on when key is left in ignition with door open. I believe the problem is in the steering column, only because every incident that has involved the adjustment of the steering column caused it to start and now with the steering wheel turned all the way to the right gave it the final failure status.

We parked the vehicle in a store parking lot after driving for 40 minutes, went into the store for 30 minutes came out and car would not start, steering would not unlock and shifter would not come out of park. Towed to Mercedes Benz of san jose and was told electronic steering lock had failed. Contacted Mercedes Benz as vehicle only had 52,000 miles and mercedes customer relations stated this was not the first time they had heard of this. They gave $200. 00 toward the $1100. 00 repair. I asked if this could of happened while I was driving and he stated he never heard of that but did not guarentee it was not possible. If this had happened while driving the wheel would have locked and I would not have been able to steer.

Same issue as literally thousands of others are complaining of. . . Car fails to start due to either a faulty steering wheel ignition lock or eis not recognizing the key and therefore not starting. It has happened twice to me, dealer service advisor knew immediately and even guessed at the model and year of my vehicle, which tells me that this is a prevalent issue, supported by the thousands of posts I have read on various forums. This is a potential safety nightmare waiting to happen, similar in nature, if not scope, to the gm ignition switch recall! the same thing could happen if the failure occurs at highway speed.

Drove my car home and it ran fine. The next morning the car would not start. Dash lights and radio came on but engine would not turn over. Now my serpentine belt broke and shredded while I was driving looked in my engine and the belt was all over engine in pieces.

This is the second time this has happened. First time I go to start my 2008 C300 and it will not start, will not shift into neutral, no windows will go up or down. I am a registered nurse and was working home health. Was stuck at a patients house and not able to see any other patients for the rest of the week. Took to mercedes dealership and told it was the eis. So $1200 dollars later it was fixed. Again 2 years later the exact same thing happens and what do you know, eis and $1200 repair again. Even the guy from the mercedes service department said this is a very common problem with this year and model. Mercedes should be ashamed to charge so much for a car and not stand behind their work. If this is a common problem it should be a recall. I will never own another mercedes as long as I live. My wifes first kia was more reliable than this car.

I came home from work on 6/8/2015 and later returned to my car to meet a friend for dinner. The doors unlocked and the lights came on but the car will not start. The steering wheel turns but the car will not start. I have tried both keys, checked th battery. After speaking with my mechanic I have found out that is is the ignition switch. I will have to have the car towed to the dealership. I have seen on the benz forum that this is a common problem that mercedes will not take ownership of. I will never by a mercedes again.

Car wouldn't start. Luckily that car was at our house. After research found that the 2009 C300 has problems with the eis (electronic ignition switch). After a 5-6 hours the cars ignition started working, but from reading others experience the ignition could disable forever at any time. Cost to repair is $1500 and only be done at a dealership.

In the morning, I tried to start my 2009 C300 and the car did not start and the steering wheel locked out of the blue. The car had to be towed to a mercedes dealership at delray beach, FL. The problem diagnosed as a manufacturing defect in the steering/electrical system related to ignition switch. The following repair stated on my repair report: - steering lock complete replacement - additional time to drill out the old lock Mercedes Benz dealership service charged me $1,464. 00 for the defected steering lock/ignition electrical assembly. I searched on internet and a lot of people experienced the same problem (please see the link provided below). I called the mercedes-benz USA headquarter at NJ and talk to a district service manager and explain to him that my car has only 44k mileage and the steering lock/ignition electronic malfunction is a manufacturing defected and it is not considered normal wear & tear and a lot of people have the same problem and it is a safety issue. Hence this should be repaired without charge and justify for recalls. Unfortunately it was like talking to the wall and basically mercedes-benz does not want to take any responsibility and to do anything about it and hit the customer with an expensive repair cost. Same as everyone else. The car would not start and we had it towed in. I researched the complaints online and saw that mercedes has a problem with this issue (eis/sis) they sold me a new key for $547 and said that it was fixed. Picked it up on Saturday and had it towed back in on Tuesday. Now they say it's the eis to the tune of another $1500. I will not buy another mercedes until I see how they stand behind the one I have. . . I hope that we do not have to call the news stations and file a class action suit to get it fixed. Mercedes needs to do the right thing and repair their defect.

The vehicle would not start, the key turned in the ignition with no crank. All other electrical features worked and the battery tested as being ok. The electrical ignition system just did not respond. Tow to the dealership. $1350 to fix it.
