Common fault. Brown ground wire. Left tail light. Brown wire gets really hot. On cluster shows messages that the break, turn signal, reverse fog lights are out. I check and remove the plate or lights housing. Light bulbs seems to be fine. Sometimes the tail light is completly out sometimes it flickles really low like their gonna go out. It smells like smoke and the brown ground wire gets really hot. It usually happens when im driving it for a long period of time but constantly turning it on and off to go do something like stopping at the store.

The tail lights are shorting out. A burning smell is eminating from the wires. The dashboard messages are flashing various problems I. E. Rear tail light, brake lights, turn signals, etc. First it indicates left side then it indicates the right side has the problem. This happens when the vehicle is stationary or rolling. The engine is on.
The parking lights on both front head light assemblies have melted the plastic of the housing and had to be broken out which seems to indicate an excessive generation of heat and potential fire hazard when bulbs are replaced they keep burning out which is a potential safety hazard. . I have seen several other complaints regarding this same issue and as well an issue very similar to the tail light recall. I was wondering if this has been or will be addressed my the manufacturer.

Tail light wiring for 2010 mercedes C300 was replaced under the recall issued in 2014. Tail light wiring is currently experiencing burning/melting due to insufficient ground wire capacity (issue of original recall). Mercedes dealership will not replace the parts under recall procedures and is requiring payment for replacement. Tail lights currently intermittently work but experience total failure of all tail lights (including brake, turn indicator, etc) when not working.

My right tail light keeps dimming and going back bright. I thought I needed a bulb but but it gave me a message today for everything on the right side but then the message went away. Last night someone told me the right light was dim then it got brighter. I've been smelling a faint burning smell but today it was kind of loud. I checked and it looks like the plastic and wire is melting on rte right tail light.
My front passenger head lamp caught fire one of the parking bulbs. All tje wiring is exposed and my lights stopped working. My right tail light one of the bulbs got over heated and had to take off the bulb.
2012 Mercedes Benz C300 - rear tail light tail light failure, found burn marks in the vehicle bulb assembly (bulb panel) and burned wires it has a complete loss of tail light lamps function.
Tail light assembly burning up again. My 2010 mb C300 4matic sport had a recall to replace both tail light assemblies about 3 years ago. Now it is happening again and mb dealer wants $159 just for a diagnostic. Problems: dash warning messages started to appeal saying problems with tail light, brake light, fog light, turn signal, reverse lamp. . . Everything is out. Light bulbs looked fine but I replaced all bulbs anyway (from autozone parts), worked for a few hours, then warning messages showed up again. Replaced all bulbs again. Same thing. Then one day, messages stopped and everything is working again. Then a few days later, it started again. Went to a mb dealer (at chantilly, va) on 10/2/18 who wanted $159 just for a diagnostic test. I instead purchased a new tail light panel (lamp carrier p/n 204-820-15-00-05) at $20 before tax to replace on my own. Came home opened up the panel and found a burned wire. It even melted the black plastic housing of wire hardness and a black burned mark on the panel (carrier). Please see attached photos. This can cause a car fire. Also very unsafe driving because tune and brake lights are not working. Shouldn't mb fix this again at no charge? please recall again.
I 'm getting a message from the computer telling me about that my right front tail lights are not working.
Headlight wires are corroded and melted. This seems similar to the tail light recall a few years ago that caused a fire.

Wiring assembly recall. My 2010 mb C300 had a tail light assembly recalled 3 yrs ago due to a fault in wiring assembly. Now I have the same problem - fault in wiring assembly. Now I have to pay $170 + taxes to repair it.
Sockets for the parking lights above the headlights melted. Knowing that something similar was addressed with the tail lights, seems to be related. The tail lights melted the carrier and the cables now the same is happening on the front of the car. I am not the only owner of mb C300 experiencing a issue. We are concerned that our cars can catch up on fire.
The contact owns a 2011 mercedes-benz C300. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 14v177000 (exterior lighting). The dealer diagnosed that the vehicle's tail light bulb carrier was not part of the manufacturer recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was exhibiting symptoms described in the recall; however, the manufacturer's records indicated that the vehicle was repaired back in September of 2014. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000.
Previously recalled for the same issue in 2014. Tail light bulb holders or wiring harness catching fire.
There has been a recall on my airbags for 2 years. This is too long to wait for a solution to be done when I am being told that these airbags if deployed can kill me or my passengers (which are my children) I have been waiting for a remedy but just keep getting told that there is one coming. 2 years is long enough to figure it out. The safety of my children is not something to mess with! please make them fix this problem or buy the dang car back! there is also a problem with the tail light sensor and light itself, it keeps saying to check it and it dims but it's not in need of replacement.
Takata recall right tail light has a brown burnt wire, and the right rear tail light is dim. So I believe it may have been a recall on this problem. I was wondering if this is something that I need to pay for or would this be something that I could get a recall on? this problem happened while driving on a city street while braking.
Background: in 2014, there was a recall of c-class Mercedes Benz vehicles due to corrosion on the connectors of the rear tail light causing the light to fail. Mercedes benz fix front light connectors - new issue: left front parking light is inoperable and the dashboard warning message came on. Went to the dealer to have the parking light bulb replaced. The mechanic verified the concern, replacing the bulb did not work. The mechanic checked and found that the parking lamp harness holder is peeling and corroded causing the wire to short. Mercedes benz wanted me to pay $1440. 35 for the replacement of the entire light assembly and recommended changing the right side too even though it was operable. The light assembly encases the front parking light bulbs (eyebrow lights - 2 each) and the headlight bulb. The service advisor, jeff decorte indicated that he sees this all the time which is why he recommended replacing both sides of the entire light assemblies. Bulb holders and connectors should be replaced at no cost to the owner due to the peeling and corrosion. Please investigate, this may be potentially another recall except now it's the front parking lights. Please note that my car has always been serviced at the required intervals by the dealer.
There are two problems that have shown up all at the same time just recently. Over the last several weeks it seems that everyday when I go leave in my car I am getting a new warning message about another light I need to check. At first it was prompting me to check the right rear tail light which appears to be working fine. But now the list has grown to include that tail light, a turn signal light, license plate light and a couple more even though to me it appears that all are working fine with the exception of the license plate light which is truly out. However the warning are listed for all these malfunctioning lights. The second issue is with the power steering. It started making a distressing noise one evening on my drive home, in which I was able to reach my home without trouble. However when I tried to leave the next morning the power steering on the car was completely not working and I was having such a hard time turning the wheel backing out of my drive that I thought it Smart not to take it out on the road and pulled it back up into my driveway where it has sat for the last several days. Luckily my son is away at boarding school but he doesn't need his car there so I have had it available to get me to work and back until I had the time to look into the issue with my car which I am doing now.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed for the failure. The contact was informed that the wiring harness had melted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 14v177000 (exterior lighting). The contact stated that after the vehicle was repaired the driver's side front parking light failed. The vehicle was diagnosed. The contact was informed that the wiring harness had melted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 41,114. Ah.
Front parking lamps poor connection wires insulation come off very easy from the frame plug, plus wires are to short to make correction(splice) inside the head light housing. All this happened after the car was repair from recall on tail lights. I saw on the internet and a lot of people has this problem for this problem, I was driving on the dark street and all ligths went off like for 5 seconds, that why I got scare, I was with my wife and my 5 months old daughter, Mercedes Benz should report this as recall, in order to correct the problem I need to change the whole housing, I took the car to downt town la service department, for another problem with the ignition lock switch, I looked on the internet and also a lot of people had this problem. I hope some one will do something about these C300 models. Thank you.
Tl-the contact owns a 2009 mercedes-benz C300. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, the check signal warning indicator illuminated. The contact observed that the rear driver's side tail light was not illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v177000 (exterior lighting). The failure mileage was approximately 68,000. The VIN was unvailable. Sg.
I received notice of a safety recall involving the rear tail lights for my 2010 mercedes C300. This car had previously been in an accident and declared a total loss. However, it was rebuilt, inspected, and certified as road worthy. The mercedes dealership refuses to perform the recall work on my car, stating that the fact that the car was a total loss invalidates any warranty and a safety recall is considered warranty work. I feel that a safety recall is not optional, and that mercedes needs to perform this work, regardless of warranty eligibility.
I received a safety recall letter on June 2014 for tail light problem. I call the dealer immediately and it's going to be December and they have not do anything.
Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Mercedes Benz C300. The contact stated that the rear tail lights shorted repeatedly. The dealer stated that they repaired the vehicle for NHTSA campaign id number: 14v177000 (exterior lighting) but the contact received no confirmation of the repair and was experiencing the failure randomly progressing. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for further inspection and diagnosis. The contact also stated that the interior lighting and the exterior lighting also continued to illuminate with no warning which was draining the power and battery source to the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
I received a warning on my dashboard that my right rear tail light, right turn signal and back light needed to be checked and malfunctioning. The message came and went for several days. When I opened the compartment where the tail bulb carriers and assembly were, I saw that some of the lights were very dim. The carrier itself was piping hot. So my first reaction was to replace the bulbs. I did. Same problems, nothing was fixed. The next day, everything cleared up. . . So I thought it might be fine. A week later, it came back. When I opened up the compartment again, it was super hot, and I noticed that the wiring was browning and it burnt my finger. I immediately stopped driving the car. I went to the dealership and they said it will cost hundreds to replace and not covered.
I was driving around 8pm here in canada when I was pulled over for a flickering driver-side tail light. The officer warned me that it was a safety issue. My wife told me after driving beside me that the light flickers intermittently, and when it is not, the parking light itself is much dimmer than the passenger-side tail light. I've tried replacing the bulbs, but nothing changes. After doing research online, I've found that this is a common issue with 2008-2011 mercedes c-class models. I've found that the electrical wiring for the tailights is not sufficiently grounded, causing melting of the wiring harness, and in some cases, causing a fire. I've called mercedes dealerships here in vancouver, but because the car is no longer under warranty, it is an expensive issue to fix. It is also a safety hazard to myself and other drivers when driving at night.
Tail light connectors overheat and melted the light holder assembly. Fire risk.
The rear wiring for the tail light lighting sparked. While driving the car smelled strongly of burning plastic. After a quick look over I didn't see anything alarming. The very next day all of the lighting on the rear right tail lights went out, all indicators came on in the dash showing that all bulbs were malfunctioning. After pulling the housing unit out, I found that the wire was burned and so was the unit the wires attached to; melted and burned. Wiring should not catch on fire, this could have easily spread and when taken to the dealer to fix, they cut the wire to attach more but cannot guarantee that it won't happen again.
Right tail light warning signals appeared, upon examining the tail light connection it appeared burned and melted. All right tail lights were out including signaling.
Components of the tail light assembly on the driver and passenger sides have overheated and rendered the units inoperative. As a result, the tail lights no longer work. This seems to be a known issue and common occurrence in aging assemblies of this type.
Rear passenger tail lights in my 2008 C300 were dim and got dash warning light to check rear lights. A couple bulbs were out so when I looked at the assembly and pushed on it the lights that were out lit up temporarily and I noticed the cable harness that plugs in it was corroded on the end and the brown wire at the end was exposed (melted?) and the black plug looks warped (melted?), looks like a common problem based on forum reports.
