2 Suspension problem of the 1997 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

* left front substrate to which the coil spring perch mounts is badly rusted and the spring is about to come off under pressure of the cars weight, thereby endangering myself and the general public. The car was towed to feldmann imports, a mercedes-benz dealer at 4901 american blvd west, bloomington , mn 55437 (952) -641-7908 and can be inspected there. * if the spring perch loosens any further, the coil spring would shoot off and likely interfere with the steering system, fuel lines and any number of other components on the vehicle, also there have been reports of the spring going out of the car under pressure and hitting other objects. * yes, my car was in for another matter at lamettry's collision center, of eden prairie, mn for a (minor dent) and (braden) of lamettry's said upon inspection of the spring perch that the car was undrivable and could not be fixed. * feldmann imports is currently looking at my car and feldmann said that I should call mercedes-benz USA which my brother-in-law walter anderson did for me and is waiting for a call back. * there were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptom's of the problem prior to the discovery by lemettry's, in fact, feldmann import's inspected my car 12 times over the years with no mention of this serious condition. Upon searching the internet and other sources I believe that it is incumbent upon the NHTSA to issue a recall on all these cars, there are several different models that use this thin wall substrate mercedes-benz has out on the road that must be endangering the lives and property of the owners and the public at large.

7 Suspension problem of the 1998 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 06/02/2016

While driving in traffinc east along haddonfield berlin road in cherry hill NJ, I was slowing to a stop approaching a red light at evsham road. As I pressed the brake pedal, there was a loud bang and grinding sound from the front end that ended with a loud clank on the ground. After which I saw the spring from my driver's side on the road behind me in my rear view mirror. Driving was not affected, not was steering. However we came to find that the panel containing the driver's side spring perch had rusted and then torn away from the bod, thus releasing the front spring. After doing some research this appears to be a known problem with mbusa, but not a recall issue. My insurance company is refusing repairs due to their view of this as being a "maintenance issue. ".

13 Suspension problem of the 2004 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

My right front air strut went out while my wife was driving and had our son in the car. She was 120 miles away from home and stranded. She went to Mercedes Benz of beverly hills and they want 160. 00 to diagnose and then would put her in a loaner. The estimate was around 1700. 00 to fix 1 air strut. I have done my research and this is defenitly a safety issue as the speed she was traveling at. Im not sure why mb has not issued a safety recall on these faulty parts. Definitly would be nice if they would cover this.

18 Suspension problem of the 1999 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 09/29/2011

Front spring perch: this component is heavily corroded. It started to separate from the body work. Spring is noticibly bent and touching the struts which is causing grinding and vibration. Spring is very close to falling off which will cause the front end of the car to drop which I believe is very dangerous if the part fails while driving especially in the highway. Please have Mercedes Benz issue a recall regarding this matter. I would hate for people to lose their lives if it's something that could've been prevented.

21 Suspension problem of the 2002 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 11/16/2010

The car started having very strong vibrations at idle speed when car is in reverse or drive and stopped at a standstill with brake. Took it to shop and was informed that the vehicles motor mounts were in need of replacement, to the tune of over 600. 00. Once again I have read a similar complaint in the database and really want to know why mercedes has not acknowledged the fact that this is a trend in the vehicles and come up with some type of recall or fix for the situation. . . Maybe most owners just unbegrudgingly pay whatever necessary to have their cars fixed oblivious to the fact that mercedes claim to fame is quality, reliability and longevity. I for one do not think that a car costing over 60,000. 00 should be plagued by so many deficient manufacturing problems.

23 Suspension problem of the 2003 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 03/11/2008

My 2003 mercedes E320 had less than 40,000 miles when the the transmission and struts started to present problems. The dealer was able to make repairs under warranty. Now at 78,000 miles, I'm being told that I need to replace the parking prawns due a leak in the back of the transmission. The bushing on the left side also needs to be replaced. I just had a bushing replaced about 6 months ago, which was a bit pricey. When they replaced one of the bushings under warranty a few years ago, they should have replaced all of them. I have encountered numerous with this car. I purchased it with only 37 miles on it in September 2003, but replacement of a number of parts while under warranty now leads me to believe that this car was a lemon from the beginning. Is it normal to have the air pump replaced at 73,000 miles? again, that was a pricey repair -- $1100. 00.

25 Suspension problem of the 1997 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 05/10/2006

Car (1997 e 320 with 90k miles) was in for routine 90k maintenance and mechanic found cracked spring perch assembly. Dealer called to tell me it must be fixed, car is unsafe to drive and that a fatal crash could result at high speeds. But told me that because car is out of warranty, they will not pay for it. Later told me they will pay for half as part of "goodwill warranty. " half??? what if there was a crash due to this? what if I had not brought it in for routine service? I was told by an unnamed source at the dealer that they see "tons of these problems with the e class, from 1996-2000 models. " he also said that there should be a recall on the affected e class. Another service manager told me that they have no idea when the other one could break. But that they would not proactively replace it before it shows signs of trouble. He basically told me that I should take the 50% goodwill warranty and shut up or they would pull the offer off the table!!! unbelievable that a company like Mercedes Benz would tolerate that kind of customer abuse from a punk service manager. I thought I would be a lifelong mercedes customer, but after this horrible customer service, I will never buy another. Too bad, because the loaner car I am driving while my repair is being done is a fantastic car (I'm in the market for a new one) and I'd buy one tomorrow if it were not for this. Instead, I will be buying a Lexus. Mercedes should be very concerned about safety with this well-documented problem instead of protecting corporate profits. Shame on you Mercedes Benz. This is bad business.

26 Suspension problem of the 2005 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 01/07/2005

Electrical problems out of service 18 days, srs/airbag failures out of service 18 days, ac/defrost blower motor failures out of service 12 days, brakes out of service 9 days, transmission (idle surge/up shifting/stalling) out of service 10 days, front end/tires out of service 10 days. During the lemon law final repair attempt, the dealer wrote on work order that they had installed new brakes because they found "after market brakes" on car. The only place the car has ever been serviced was the dealership where we purchased it. We asked the service advisor and assistant service manager (first they said the brakes were thrown out and then they said the parts were shipped to mb) and wrote two certified letters to Mercedes Benz for the removed parts so we could track the serial numbers. We were ignored. The regional representative who initiated the "brake replacement" was conveniently "promoted out of the area" just before the lemon law hearing so he could not be questioned. We had been complaining about the brakes, especially the stopping distance, from the beginning and they kept saying no problem found. The dealer would not document it on the work orders.
