11 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2016

I experienced immediate brake failure while driving with no advanced warning. Received red light warning messaging stating reduced braking ability and to visit workshop. Immediately stepped fully on brake pedal with minimal to no response. Car eventually slowed down to a stop. A significant collision was avoided because I was driving around 15 mph on a residential side-street with no other traffic at the time. Had I been traveling on a major road at 35-40mph with moderate traffic I would have been unable to avoid a serious collision. Mercedes benz has recognized this braking issue and ordered an extended 10 year warranty with unlimited miles on the hydraulic sbc system, but I was told my 2006 vehicle was "out of warranty" by the dealership and would need to pay $2275 for repairing the hydraulic sbc. This problem is an immediate safety concern given the acute failure of the braking system and the high likelihood of a serious accident.

12 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2016

The brakes on this car failed without warning while traveling on interstate at high speed. I have contacted mercedes and they have agreed to pay the cost of the spc brake unit under warranty; however, the costs of labor is very high and I have to cover it. I am a retired elderly combat disabled war veteran with limited funds and believe mercedes should recall these dangerous vehicles and and cover the entire costs. The vehicle is currently under repair at fields mercedes in lakeland florida.

13 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2015

Catastrophic sbc system failure. Driving on the turnpike at 65 mph suddenly brakes stopped functioning at all, dashboard turned red with the message sbc failure, depress brake pedal in full, but there was no braking power at all. Coasted, took the nearest exit and could tow the car. I was very lucky. Not a good experience to discover you have no brakes on the highway. Car is in a mechanic shop now, repair will cost over $ 2000. This brake system is a failure, mb discontinued it and went back to the traditional hydraulic system. Mb should had made a recall on this issue as they are aware and it is a failure that can not be predicted, maintenance or age apparently have no influence on the part failing otherwise mb would include the part's replacement as part of a preventive maintenance service. This is a very serious safety issue, and I have seen several people complaining about the same.

14 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2014

I turned on my engine and made a u-turn to travel up my street. When I completed the turn a red warning light flashed that my break system was not fully operable/take car immediately to dealer. In a few feet, my brakes failed completely, car would not stop, and emergency brakes did not work. When I put my foot on the brakes, it went to the floor; no amount of pumping stopped the car. The warning flashed "pump brakes!¿ I continued, to no avail, and finally, about 15 feet before the intersection, the car slowed to a stop. This occurred on Monday (I had just picked up my car the Friday before because the brakes were making a "squeaky-chirp like sound when pressed, after work had been done by the dealer on another issue. I took it back the same day that happened and was told there was air in the brakes; that usually, when pumped 15 times, it goes away. From then on, when I put the car in park and/or pressed the emergency brake, it continued to move forward, as though not held securely). The dealer towed it to the shop and now says my sbc system failed but there was no way to foresee or predict that problem by checking the brakes. I believe there is a severe problem with the brake system; especially given the dealer saying that there is no way to detect a problem that causes the brake system to completely fail. They now want to charge me $2000 to fix a brake problem I believe they caused when they had my car initially and/or did not identify after me taking it to them, twice, thereafter. This was a terribly frightening experience. I, my grandkids, and others on the road narrowly missed being involved in an accident and injured, or killed. Thank god I was on a residential street and the car stopped before I was forced into traffic. I saw that others online have had the same problem and can't believe no one has been killed due to this braking system issue.
