25 problems related to check engine light on have been reported for the 2006 Mercedes Benz E350. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
This vehicle is a threat to my health with all the problems I'm having with it. I have to press extra had to stop . Had brakes checked and there was no problem. There is a bad gasoline leak and loud smell of gas when I fill up. Looked under rear seat and saw gas on gas tank. Dried gas up and the big puddle returned. Can I drive this car? I need someone to tell me what to do. The last and most worrisome thing to me is that there are 2 dtc codes coming up causing the check engine light to come on. Had mechanic to clear then but they come right back when car is started. I need to get this car inspected. Someone tell me what to do. Mechanic said that the code indicate a problem with the engine and that it might take $8700 to repair every thing. I dont have that type of money. This is the car makers problem. Who is looking out for me. Is the goverment doing there job when it comes to this car. Heard there are more cars like this. Oh this is a 2006 mercedes E350. Will the goverment, dealer or manufacturer buy this car from me. This is a plea for help from anywhere. They say there is a recall on this car but when it came out there was 1 year left on car warranty before it ran out. The car didn't quit running when the stalling to repair these cars took place. Some one is in someones back pocket. Someone needs to do their job and get this problem taken care of once and for all. You may lose some friends in the process but this is better than someone losing their life. This vehicle has haad problems stationary and while moving.
Mercedes-benz v6 m272 engines have timing chain problems caused by balance shaft failures which mercedes has known about for year. Faulty gears wear out prematurely, excessively, and without warning, causing the vehicle to malfunction, the 'check engine light' to remain illuminated, and the vehicle to misfire or stop driving. Weak materials were used for the balance shaft sprockets and the timing chain guide, mercedes never contacted its owners about the defect which can cause the engine to halt and the car to stop mid-traffic. The check engine light comes on the vehicle at every start, throwing a p0016 and p0017 trouble code, which returns even after clearing and restart. After going to several mechanics, all have noted that the balance shaft (within the engine) requires repair an issue mercedes has know about for several years, and had even issued its mechanics with service bulletins (April 23, 2009, see attached), but has never notified its car owners of the hazardous driving during any of its service at the dealership or has not notified with any other communication. Engines with serial numbers lower than m272 engine serial no. 2729. . 30 468993 have the defective parts at manufacture, which is affecting my mercedes vehicle.
I have check engine light on, nobody "mechanic" know to fix this problem. I have codes: 1-p0016 2-p0017 3-p2195 4-p2198 5-p0171 6-p0174.
I have a benz E350 2006 with 60k miles. My check engine light went on and I was told it was the balance shaft gear problem. Mercedes-benz had a class action lawsuit complaint filed for this issue for some of their cars with this problem as well as faulty engines & idle gears. There are more than 100000 cars from 2005 to 2007 model years with this problem and they managed to get away without issuing a recall. What surprises me is even with the class action suit, they pay only 30% of the repair cost. Dealership estimate for this repair is $7500. They have to remove the entire engine/motor and open it up to replace the small part. . Read more...
The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz E350. While driving approximately 45 to 50 mph, the vehicle approached a ramp and applied the brakes. Messages on the instrument panel illuminated that read "reduced brake pressure and depress brake fully", "traction control", "abs", and "check engine lights". In addition, the steering wheel locked up when the brakes were applied. The vehicle was pulled over, turned off, restarted, and driven home. The failure recurred. The vehicle was driven to a mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 129,000.
Po16, po17 needs to replace balanceshaft timing chain will cost 8-10k. Engine will fail if not replaced . There is a notice on this. Check engine light stays on. Mercedes refues to pay , cover cost when it is manufacturer defect. The engine should last longer.
Balance shaft manufacturing defect causes gear teeth to wear prematurely. This is a internal engine component. Poor materials caused the camshaft sprocket teeth to wear out – thus this is a manufacturing problem. Internal engine components like balance shaft sprockets are meant to last at least 150000 miles on mb cars – thus they are difficult to replace & repairs so expensive. Symtpom starts with camshaft position related check engine light - repair costs $7000. This occurs for many many many cars with that m272 engine. This is a environmental and safety hazard. Mercedes should be forced to do a recall. . Read more...

Check engine light comes on shortly after fill up of gasoline. Light goes out when tank is about 1/2. Repeats at next fill up. Check engine code is p0456: evap system very small leak.

The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the cam shaft needed to be rebuilt. The manufactured was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Check engine light comes on and when check indicates cam sensor problem. I was told that mercedes knows about this problem.
I have appr. 64,0000 miles on my mercedes E350 and the check engine light came on. Sent it to the mercedes dealership and said that the car had a balance shaft problem. Sold me the car in 2008. Service bulletins were out since 2007. Mercedes will only help minimally with the cost. Total cost so far is $3750. 00. To much for me. Told mercedes that I would have to drive around in a defective vehicle with my family and asked the rep. If that was safe, he replied "no". Rep. Said that there was no campaign out on this problem. Something needs to get done before casualties occur.
After refueling, I noticed a strong odor of gasoline in the garage where I park my car. After driving the vehicle a few miles and parking in the garage, the odor was no longer there. I started noticing a pattern that whenever I refueled the vehicle, there was a strong odor of gasoline in the garage that dissipated once the vehicle was driven a few miles. Right after I started noticing the gas smell, the vehicle check engine light came on. I recently had the vehicle checked by an authorized Mercedes Benz service center who stated gas tank has crack at the top and is leaking fuel. The entire tank and all the components will need to be replaced at $3,000. I mentioned that there are a lot of other vehicles with this problem and a couple of class action lawsuits and it appears that the vehicle's gas tank is defective. The service technician refused to repair the components under any campaign or recall.
Balance shaft failure. At 57,700 miles the check engine light on with codes 1200/1207 also known as p0016 and p0017. The balance shaft sprocket is excessively worn due to manufacturer defect known by Mercedes Benz USA to be due to poorly hardened metal in the manufacture of this part. May cause complete engine failure and loss of power. Manufacturer refused to offer any assistance in correcting the defect.
Check engine light came on. Vehicle was taken to dealership and they informed me that the balance shaft gear, exhaust camshaft position timing problem was happening. Cost to repair is $7000. Was told the issue was normal wear and tear. Started to investigate online and found out this is a widespread problem.
I had so many problem with my mercedes E350, but when the engine light was on I couldn't believe was the balance shaft. It was in warranty so I didn't pay a cent but when they returned the car back was not the same any more, the tail light was cracked and the a/c opening are inside. The car is not any more the same, sometimes is shaking, and has so many other problems. I saw online that mercedes has to many cars with this defects that brings more problems, so I'm asking what are you waiting for a recall??????.
My check engine light is on so I took it to the mb dealer and they stated that it was a balance sensor located inside the engine and it cost $7000. 00 to fix cause the entire engine has to be taken out, my car only has 70,000 miles and I have noticed that many people are complaining about this issue with their mb cars as well. There are hundreds of people complaining about this problem with their benz and therfore there should have been some recall on it by now.
The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz E350. The contact stated the check engine light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that the cam shaft was unbalanced and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 158,510.
Check engine light came on then went off. Took to the dealer told code was for gear in the balance shaft and that the job would be $6000. Told me it was normal wear and tear but they were willing to pay 50%. If normal wear why would they even pay. Car had 93k miles. See that this is a 2006 mercedes E350 issue and not just wear. Need to have a recall. See there is a class action lawsuit in progress against this faulty part.
I just was advised by my mercedes only independent garage that the on-going cel on my 2006 E350 (48000 miles) is for the camshaft wear mentioned in this lawsuit. The mechanic advises repair cost is $6200. He has the bulletin and has seen this issue in multiple cars. I will be complaining to the NHTSA and hoping NHTSA can recover my damages for this obvious and known defect. Check engine lights star diagnosis indicated : code 1200 and 1208 ( p0016 and p0017) for mb E350 2006 48000 mil mercedes has known about this problem since 2007 and has failed to notify any owners of the problem. Probably because the repair is so expensive ranging from $4,000-$8,000 and with most, the problem doesn't show up until after the warranty has expired. So it's a win-win situation for mercedes. I don't feel all warm and fuzzy inside because mercedes offered to put a little "goodwill cash" towards a repair that cost me thousands that they should have covered in full. And their 2 "rules" for qualifying for "goodwill assistance" for the repair has nothing to do with the repair. It's not preventable. If your vehicles falls between the serial numbers, your balance shaft will fail. On facebook specifically for the balance shaft you can get information and a number of vehicles affected. . 2006 Mercedes Benz E350 4matic wagon. Check engine light diagnosis. Camshaft timing retarded. Vehicle needs balance shaft gear (worn out). Estimated cost of repair - $5,643. 00. Potential catastrophic incident could happen at anytime. Vehicle could mess up gear/timing chain and cause engine to fail and loss of all power related to engine.
I own a Mercedes Benz 2006 E350 and the check engine light came on at around 54k miles. Had it check out at the dealership and they stated it was a camshaft sensor, I had them replace it at a cost of $550. Now at 57k miles the check engine light has come on with the exact same code, camshaft sensor. Upon research this is an engine/engine cooling:engine. This is a balance shaft issue common on the m272 Mercedes Benz E350 built b/t 2005-10. Cost to fix is documented @ $5,000-$8,000.
Check engine light illuminated followed by another light indicating check oil level at next refueling. Had vehicle immediately examined by Mercedes Benz dealer. Engine oil level okay. No codes came up for oil sensor. Car has 66,239 miles. Was told by mbz dealer that balance shaft needs replacement due to sprocket failure (coming apart); gear is worn. Needs $6,200 of repair. Called Mercedes Benz of north America who said that to date, no recalls or campaigns have been initiated for this complaint. Car has been maintained according to mbz scheduled maintenance using mbz synthetic oil and mbz parts, if and when necessary. The internet is replete with complaints of this same type from all over u. S. And canada.
The contact owns a 2006 Mercedes Benz E350. While driving the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel. The vehicle was then taken to the dealership and a technician concluded that the timing chain cam-shaft failed. The current and failure mileages were 87000.
Check engine light occurred at 45000 miles and remains active to date. During the first occurrence the dealer performed an inspection of the vehicle, reported no issues, and advised that the light should be ignored as a false alarm. Subsequent to the initial inspection the vehicle was taken in for servicing, at which time a part (cam sensor) replacement was provided. Most recently the vehicle was taken in for epa sanctioned emissions testing at a facility in the state of wisconsin. The vehicle failed the test. This was reported to the dealer and manufacturer; however neither are providing a cost free solution to resolve the issue. The dealer has quoted a minimum cost of $6500, and still no guarantee that it will resolve the issue. It is my position that the vehicle had a preexisting condition, and that the dealer failed to inform the nature and magnitude of the problem at the time of purchase when the vehicle was under warranty. Furthermore it has been discovered the NHTSA has released service bulletins on the mentioned issue. At this point it is unclear how an epa sanctioned requirement can be fulfilled if the dealer and manufacturer are failing to provide a remedy.
