general problems of the 2006 Mercedes Benz E350

The engine in these cars are defective and can cause serious harm due to a part that was put inside the motor made of plastic. There was a lawsuit but if you didn’t get in on it you losses out for not knowing. I was recently at mercedes dealership to fix recalls and they brushed me off. The car can catch fire and I’m already experiencing engine failure after only owning the car for a year. They don’t care because it’s an old car but it’s still being sold to unsuspecting buyers. I’m not the only one there are thousands of us who are at risk driving these cars because mercedes won’t admit their off the showroom floor mistake.

Certain mercedes-benz models 2005- 2007 m272 v6 and m273 v8’s have faced or are facing issues regarding the balance sprocket in which drives the camshaft and crankshaft of the vehicle. Mercedes-benz had made a decision to make certain engine components out of soft metals, when such metals are not adequate in handling the stress of the engine. In particular, in many cases, the balance sprocket was made with inadequate materials and gradually deteriorated to the point in which it could not engage the timing chain and cause camshaft-crankshaft misalignment. I personally did not experience such failure yet but it is more of a concern as this is a common issue , the repair is quite substantial and the failure can damage the engine even more.

Engine codes p0016 and p0017 reads cam shaft and crank shaft correlation it is everywhere on the internet and on the Mercedes Benz forum. This is a know problem that mercedes has ignored. Its on all 2004 thru 2008 vehicles with the 3. 5 engine. Calls for a balancer shaft replacement. This should definitely be a recall issue. The industry knows that is was poorly manufactured part. Your help with rectifying this issue would greatly help the and restore the reputation of mercedes and restore faith in Mercedes Benz owners. My vehicle is a 2006 E350 4 matic with only 113,634 miles.

We just purchased a 2006 mercedes for our teenage sons and had a dealer look at it before we purchased it. They told us there were a couple of codes that were worth watching but that it wasn’t anything significant right now. After the car started jerking and shaking while driving it, we brought it in to dealership where they told us it had a common code for mercedes in this timeframe p0016. Repair estimate is nearly $5000 to replace timing chain and balance shaft, or a new engine which would be roughly the same. After researching on my own upon being told this code, I found all of the information about the class action lawsuit and settlement, which of course we are too late to be a part of. The dealer said there is a potential that the car could just seize up at some point, so I don’t want my young sons to be out on the road when that happens. I am very frustrated and upset that this wasn’t a recall since it apparently affected a huge amount of vehicles manufactured within this time frame. There is a specific list of engines with known issues and ours is among them. Mercedes benz should be held responsible for making this right because it was definitely a quality issue. Now we are stuck with an unsafe vehicle, or a massive expense due to defect.

Driving the vehicle on several occasions on interstate 66 and the vehicle spontaneously went into limp mode. Now we find out it's a balance shaft issue and is a known problem from mercedes in the m272 engines for our 2006 E350 4-matic. They evidently used balance shafts with materials that were too soft, resulting in premature wearing of the balance shafts with all of the m272 engines produced during this time having the problem. There was a previous class action lawsuit, which mercedes settled, however, the consumers were not adequately notified and no recall was ever issued for the cars. Now we have 2nd or 3rd owners having these problems that didn't get a notice and have no idea there is a huge expensive and dangerous problem with their vehicle. On I-66 traffic moves at 70 mph (regular lanes) or 75 mph (express lanes). Having the vehicle spontaneously go into limp mode because of this engine issue is dangerous and could have caused a fatal accident on multiple occasions for us. Mercedes should be recalling all of these engines and fixing them properly before someone gets injured or killed. When I spoke with mercedes, they said because I was not involved in the class action suit at that time, they were not willing to fix the car or pay for any portion of the repair, which they quoted me as costing $16,228. 96. The problem is the mercedes went into limp mode on multiple occasions and there was no check engine light to indicate what the problem was for several months. We had no warning that this was going to happen which created a dangerous situation while driving. There were several incidents on different dates spanning months before a check engine light came on with codes and mercedes could identify the problem specifically was the balance shaft failure.

Balance shaft issues possible cause of vehicle stalls and safety concerns.

The crankshaft pulley is a two piece item. When excessive pressure is on it the pieces separate and disable the car. Upon replacing the belt or belt tensioner more pressure is exerted on the crankshaft pulley. Thus it fails and again disables the vehicle. When doing either of the replacement tasks mercedes fails to check this or mention it to customers. Thus months later it fails and previous belt replacement of belt tensioner replacement has to be done again. This creates a dual expense without fixing the issue the first time. Expense is in the thousands.

The contact owns a 2006 Mercedes Benz E350. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, a warning message of 'restricting system manufacture' illuminated and 07:02 the vehicle lost all power. The contact lost control of the steering, and the brakes failed. As a result, the contact crashed into a wall at 8-10 mph, but did not sustained injuries. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,663.

I need help with my crankshaft please I see a lot of people are having the same problem.

2006 mercedes ml350 balance shaft - class action lawsuit - defective. Went into low gear while running. Will not come back to normal. Code from diagnosis states the problem as timing chain. Mercedes states " maybe fixed in good faith" . Bad balance shaft from factory. Many problems with this defective part. But we need money up front to fix which we don't have. From mercedes repair shop.

Car had quarter tank when bought. Drove out gas and put about another quarter tank of gas in. Drove this out. Smelled no fumes. Filled tank up. Have smelled loud gas smell for 1 week now.

Takata recall. Abs malfunction, brake sensor.

Fuel pump leaking fumes (and fuel?). While parked and preparing to come home the fuel pump failed and the car refused to start. It will not be repaired unless it is under the extended warranty. I am trying to learn if it will be covered under a extended warranty.

Strong fuel smell coming from the outside of vehicle.

I went to a hardware store and parked the car in the store parking lot. About 10 minutes later somebody came in and asked me if I was driving a silver mercedes; I told him yes and he told me that it was on fire. When I got out of the store I saw my car's engine compartment on fire. By the time the fire department arrived on the scene the whole engine compartment had been gutted and the fire had spread to another car which was parked infront of mine.

The engine light indicator came on and was checked at the dearlership and showed to replace shaft. It seemed a lot of problems with same indication. Cost to repair was quoted at $5,500.

I am reporting a very serious, disturbing, shocking and tragic accident on 9/12/2015 on randall road in elgin, IL USA at 2:35 pm just after big timber road signal. My southbound 2006 Mercedes Benz E350 car was hit by the high speed out of control northbound 2014 Toyota corolla, which had crossed/swerved the center line and resulted in a head on collision/crash.

Engine jerks and sputters while driving. I appears that the vehicle will shutdown immediately. Cannot drive over 25 mph or go up hills.

For several times now I can smelling a strong odor of gasoline inside and outside of the car, even more so after pumping gas on the car. Sometimes I can see a small leak into the parking space.

After I fill my gas tank there a strong odor of gasoline both inside and outside of the vehicle, particularly after refueling. Possible problem could be the fuel pump and fuel filter along with the gas tank. The odor is so severe we had to park our car outside the garage after filling. The time we didn't it caused severe illness (nausea) to my wife.

Check light.

The vehicle was taken to the manufacturer where it was found that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 97,000.

Balance shift worned.

About a year ago (may 2013) we noticed gas smell in the compartment of the car. Initially it was sporadic. We thought it was from outside of the car or may be under the car, or gas tank cap was not tightened properly. After I took my car to Mercedes Benz dealership on 9/6/13, I found out that the smell was not from either of the above scenarios. It was indeed from inside the cabin and the Mercedes Benz technician told me that it was from fuel leakage under the back seat and it would cost $1380 to fix it. Additionally he said that he had seen numerous cases like mine, and some were so bad that they would not be able to drive it in, and had to tow the car in. Because of the high cost in addition to the other repairs that I had to do worth $1,200, I decided to delay this repair. Now we can not even drive the car because of the intense smell and will cost me probably more that $1,380 to fix it. I believe strongly that this is a manufacturer defect and should be fixed and paid for by Mercedes Benz.

I initially had issues with the transmission slipping then there were engine issues compounding the problem. Re the transmission, my first occurrence was when I was about to enter a very busy intersection and my car would barely move. My mechanic explained later that the car was stuck in 3rd gear so I could not get my normal forward movement. He told me if it happened again to turn my engine off, count to ten and turn it back on. Fortunately he told me this because the next times it happened I was on Lincoln blvd. In marina del rey, CA. And my car would not accelerate at all. One time I was at a red light so had time to turn it off and on. The next time I had to coast into a very small center divider that was growing smaller and with traffic flying by on my side and oncoming I had to turn off my engine, count to ten and turn it on. This caused a lot of angst since I had cars flying by and at me while doing this. There have been many other instances. I am getting no cooperation from mbz.

Engine/transmission was acting jerky and suddenly the car lost power to engine and the car broke on it's own doing causing the vehicle to swerve into the other lane. Luckily there were no cars behind or to the side of me as this would have surely caused an accident. Currently there is a class action law suit in place specifically to the engine in my car and the part at fault.

The "check engine" light on the instrument panel came on. We took it to the dealership for maintenance and asked them to diagnose the problem. We were told that it was associated with a faulty balance shaft and that it needed to be replaced sooner than later or else it could cause entire engine to stop working when it failed. The quoted price for repairs was around $5500 with a $1000 discount. It is unacceptable to see that so many people are experiencing the same issue of defective engines from a manufacturer who commands a price premium for its "superior engineering" and yet does nothing to correct a serious and widespread fault. From the various reports, including those in the lawsuit website and online forums, mbusa has failed to assist customers with these issues, in most cases citing that vehicles are past warranty coverage and therefore the owners must cover the cost of repair. This is unacceptable since it appears to be a factory defect, rather than "wear and tear" that the customer is responsible for. Mercedes benz must pay for this problem, not the customer.

2006 Mercedes Benz m272/m273 engine. *balance shaft issue* our 2006 E350 Mercedes Benz was just diagnosticed that it needed the balance shaft replaced, a $5000-$8000 dollar repair. After doing some research I have found that many mercedes costumers have experienced the same problem. Infact a class action lawsuit has been filed specificly due to this issue and it seems that this engine part is faulty.

Fuel tank seals are leaking causing a safety hazard. When I park in my garage there is a gasoline smell. The catalytic converter operates at a high temp. Making the car unsafe in a closed in place. Dealer mercedes-benz of north palm beach said this is not covered under warranty. The repair cost is $680. Safer a battle they offered $217 credit. I refused to pay for a repair on a car that is under warranty and has a serious safety defect.

Faulty balance shift and idle gear. Replaced many components to rectify the issue only to find a star bulletin was available for the fix. Original found while vehicle was under warranted and technician failed to fix. Now that car is out of warranty, will incur a 6k fix on what seems to be defective or substandard parts (balance shaft sprocket and the timing chain guide wheel(idler).
