Fuel sending unit warranty was extended but only for a short time. Mine has failed and gas is leaking into the car and mb won’t honor warranty because it expired on my car and entire fuel tank has to be replaced.
Fuel smell coming from the rear, car is a pzev and out of warranty, smell is very strong and I am unable to drive it with a child in the back because they get dizzy. Unable to fill up with gas up to a certain point or smell will linger.
Fuel tank fuel leak, NHTSA action number ea13003 I purchased a 2007 mercedes e class used a few months ago, and recently I noticed a fuel leak, strong fuel smell outside of vehicle when fuel tank is filled higher. More fuel means more fuel odor. Upon research, it seems like there was a warranty extension for 15 years, and with my luck, warranty extension ran out just after I bought the car but before I noticed the problem. As fuel is a safety issue and can easily ignite, and also affects emissions, I feel like the remedy should not just be a 15 year warranty extension, but longer as cars are staying on the road longer and longer. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue out of warranty extension period.
Due to the odor of gasoline both inside and outside my car I brought my car to the local mercedes’ dealership. Upon inspection they found a small crack in my fuel tank which allowed gasoline to leak into another compartment. The dealer stated they would not be able to replace fuel pump without replacing the gasoline because of the “danger and risk of fire”. I believe that the leakage of gasoline and the fumes associated inhaled presents a very real danger, and risk to health. Upon research I found that this is a major issue that has been addressed by your department. After a 3 year investigation this investigation was closed due to the extension of the manufactures warranty to 15 years. My car is 8 months out of the extended warranty. When speaking to mercedes’ benz hotline, the representative stated receiving several phone calls recently with reports of the same issue. I appreciate your attention to this matter. I am hoping this case with be reopened, and the manufacturer held responsible for replacing faulty fuel tanks.
The component/s that have failed are (reputedly) the fuel system resulting in significant fuel fumes permeating into the cabin of the vehicle as well as being very evident around the rear outside of the vehicle. This seems to be more obvious after the car has been filled with fuel. Having fuel fumes leaking into the cabin of the car should be self evident as a risk to anyone travelling in the vehicle, especially in the rear seats. The fumes eminating from the car, externally, are a potential fire hazard should anyone walk by with a cigarette or naked flame. This is an on going problem well known to Mercedes Benz and one that should have been the subject of immediate recalls by mb and not subject to a miledge, time frame or VIN number. Why should I, or anyone, have to foot a fairly significant bill, for fixing a manufacturing fault just because the previous owners didn't get the problem fixed and I purchased the vehicle after some 15 year warrenty time frame? this issue could result in someones death if mercedes is not forced to remedy it and by remedy it I mean for all 2007 E350's to be recalled unconditionally.
Vehicle fuel system known component issue, fuel pump failure, intermittent. Driving vehicle can lose power at speed, causing potential loss of control as hydraulic assist to steering and braking fails with engine. This known issue has intermittently cause our car to fail to start, or fail in operation. This was a known issue, the manufacturer was allowed to avoid a recall by extending the warranty for this component (fuel pump in fuel tank assembly) to 15 years. Our car started showing this around that time (3 months ago, when extended warranty expired), however we were not then aware of said warranty. Now that we've been two months of diagnosis and discussions with mbusa customer care, they are not willing to replace the known failure point as warranty expired 3 months ago. This should have been a recall from the beginning, and now we, and many others to come, will have the value and usefulness of our vehicles reduced or eliminated. Those not aware of the potential failure of this very expensive part, will be at risk every time they operate their cars at speed on the public highways. Nhtsa should never have allowed this warranty extension scheme to substitute for a recall. There is no way to predict failure, and entire fuel tank assembly replacement is <$4,000. Fuel pump is not individually accessible or available for replacement, only entire tank assembly in these pzev vehicles is available. Mercedes-benz is shirking responsibility here, and flipping it over to the dealerships and consumers.
My car was running suddenly stop and does not start, I take it to mercedes dealer and they charge me $195. 00 plus tax to scanned it they found the ecm engine control module need to be replace. Cost is $2,300 plus tax. Please contact me for at your convenience so I can take further steps towards Mercedes Benz.
My vehicle shut off while I was driving on a main street. Two minutes later I could start it. Then next day I could so I took it to a trusted mechanic and was informed about recall. It hasn't started since. The mechanic isn't certain about exactly the problem but said there was some misfires on sensors. Unknown exactly what's wrong. I did get a letter in the mail about a recall offered to me if similar conditions happen.
The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz E350w. The contact noticed a strong fuel odor and a fuel leak while placing fuel into the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to fletcher jones motocars (3300 jamboree rd, newport beach, CA 92600) where it was determined that the vehicle was not included in the unlimited mileage extended warranty for fuel leaks. The manufacturer was also notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 162,000.
Good morning, I purchased my 2007 mercedes E350 in April of 2016 with a 161,000 miles on the car. I have noticed several weeks after, the car began to smell like gasoline fumes after, I filled up. I decided to partially fill up during the next visit. It does work sometimes . However, I now notice the pugent odor has become stronger. I drive with the back window partially down post fill-up to avoid being over-whelmed by fumes.
I'm smelling a heavy gas odor in my vehicle. Like there's a leak in the back seat. I feel unsafe in my vehicles. Is this problem covered under recall?.
The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz E350. After the vehicle was refueled and driving at various speeds, a fuel odor emitted from the vehicle without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.
My car for the past month has had a terrible fuel smell every time I filled my car up. The fumes smelled awful and they would make me sick. I kept asking mechanics what is going on, and when I called mercedes they said my VIN number didn't match the recall. This was a total lie. I was never notified that there even was a recall. After getting to a person who has a position of more authority I was told to have the car towed to the dealership where it sits now. However I got the runaround first from corporate mercedes. Then when I was driving down a busy street the car completely stopped. I was caught in a busy intersection. When I checked on line I found out about the class action suet. I read all the complaints and almost all of the stories for 2007 E350's matched my issue. I have no idea if mercedes will stand by their name and fix this very dangerous problem. If not I will call my lawyer.
Strong gas fumes inside the car. Started smelling it after 100,000.
The gear shift keep getting stuck. The car revs and doesn't change gear when driving it stays in the first gear. Then when it does changes the gear skips, causing a jolt in the car. Brought it to the shop and was told that it's a default sensor that's not picking up, causing it to skip. Two separate shops and they told me to make this complaint. I've called the number on this site months ago, made a complaint and still nothing. I've seen quite a bit of complaint on this matter on this site, yet no change. This can be very dangerous because the car stalls which endanger the operator of the vehicle, passengers, and other motorist on the road. This can cause an accident. I'll use today's date because I don't remember the specific date I called before. Very dangerous.
This report is an additional inspection report for odi number 10745880 on 07/28/2015 and 10855318. It is an identical fire incident that I attach an inspection report for your further investigatio, Mercedes Benz may have to make a recall to replace fuel hose for the public safety with these repeated incidents.
Smelling strong gasoline inside and outside car after running the vehicle, why doesn't recall no. 2008020001 apply to my vehicle, esp warning light come on and gear-shift got stuck, I can't shift to other gear from park position.
When I fuel the car to full, there is the high odor of fuel. Only when the car is full, I can smell the odor of gas. The vehicle is stationary, in the garage.
Strong fuel smell when filling up. Have noticed many complaints about this and an extended warranty. Mercedes in an online chat said my vehicle was not included but everything I am reading says it should be. Not sure how to pursue this.
The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz E350. After refueling the vehicle, there was a strong odor of fuel inside the cabin. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel sending unit failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 86,000.
Strong gasolene smell filled the garage after fill up, and remains till next day so far.
I can smell a very strong gasoline odor from outside the car especially near left rear tire well. Odor dissipates after a couple of days of not driving but reoccurs when next driven. There is no gas dripping on the garage floor. Dealer wants to charge me a bunch of money just to diagnose the problem and also told me I would have to pay for all repairs. This is clearly a dangerous defect as an online search turns up many complaints of the same issue. Something needs to be done before an explosion happens and someone is harmed.
I own a 2007 mercedes E350 and I often notice a strong gasoline smell in and around the car, especially after fueling. Based on internet research this sounds a lot like the complaints many other owners are registering. I have not discussed it with a dealer yet but I am sure any related repairs will be costly. I first started noticing the gasoline smell over a year ago but it was mild and has gotten worse recently.

Gas fumes inside car when parked.
My 2007 Mercedes Benz E350, began to smell of fuel on the inside after a fill up. I took the vehicle in to find out what the issue might be and was informed that the fuel sending unit was not operating properly. The vehicle was repaired, however, the smell of fuel still lingers in the vehicle. I have left the windows down for days at a time month after month. I went an obtained some industrial strength aerosol and the smell still has not totally left the vehicle to date.

After I filled up gas and parked for 2 days, I went back to the car and smelled gas odor from the outside and the inside of the car. I drove the car for 78 miles and still smell the gas while driving. I went back and parked, the smell still occurred. When I checked online, there was a lot of complaint about this issue ( fuel sending unit) on this car (Mercedes Benz wagon 4matic e 350. 2003-2009. ) the gas sending unit has leaked. I think this is a safety issue that NHTSA should open up the investigation and conduct a recall about this issue, because I have two children's of my own that sit in the backseat of our vehicle. I will take no chances to drive this vehicle and we still own a payment on it. If this issue is not being investigate, I will take it up to the next level ( national television). I hope this issue will resolve at this level immediately . Thank you v/r bennett.
I have a very noticeable gasonline odor in the cabin of my car after every gas fill up. It's so strong I get headaches sometime. I think this would be a fire hazard with this leaky gas getiing to other electric component in the car. I've once a fire in the intake manifold couple years ago. The total repair cost came out to be more than $4,000 from penske mercedes in west covina.
When I put the car in the garage overnight, there is a stronge odor of gas escaping. Engine light continued to stay on.
There is a strong smell of gasoline in the interior of my E350. It is my understanding that this has been a problem with other E350 cars, 2007 model year.
The contact owns a 2007 Mercedes Benz E350. The contact stated that after refueling, fuel fumes emitted into the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
Extreme fuel vapor contamination inside the cabin of my 2007 e 350 sedan after fill up.
6/29/14 traveling when check engine light came on. Stopped and looked under hood, did not see anything out of the norm, drove it home. Drove a few days later to dealership. Found intake manifold faulty and cam adj maginet. Not repaired-$3000 quoted. Drove it home where it remains. Searches on internet shows this defect is under investigation. Also car rides rough; all four wheels are bent due to regular road wear and tear. Both these issues could have caused catastrophic consequences. I am not the first owner of this mb. Were mb aware of these defects and failed to inform me prior to purchasing the E350? the manufacturer needs to remedy these defects.
