Fuel tank and fuel parts leaking. 2 repairs and car often smells of gasoline especially in the garage.

After I filled up my gas tank and came home and parked my car in the garage. After a few hours I smell strong gas smell. When I researched mbworld, I saw many people having the same / similar issue, and Mercedes Benz had extended the warranty to 15 years towards fuel leak issues. There were many articles on the forum. When I called my dealer, he said that I there are no recalls on it. How do I resolve this issue?.

When I fill the gas tank to the top, I smell fuel in the cabin, I think there was a recall for that, but dealership says no, there is a video on this issue on youtube as well, I got this recall number from a friend NHTSA#13003, could you please check and help me out.

When I fill up the gas tank I notice a gas smell from outside of the car on the rear drivers side. When the fuel level drops to 3/4 full the smell disappears. I'm afraid of an explosion if I park in an enclosed garage.

Gas leak and smell from the gas tank.

Every time I fill up my car I get a strong gas smell inside and outside the car. It also leaks gas on the driver side on my driveway at home or where I drive and park for about the first 50 miles. The way I have learned to avoid the gas smell is I only fill the tank up to 3/4.

Today, I took my car to the Mercedes Benz ontario dealer service department to ask for repair based on an extended recall (and unlimited mileage), they said they will not repair it using the recall, too many miles. My current mileage is 178278. Mercedes needs to recall all model years. This is very dangerous, and I question the liability in the event one of these cars catches fire as a result of the fuel system defect which mercedes is not willing to repair.

There is a recurring smell of gas when the tank is filled above 1/2 or so. Upon inspection by a mechanic, the tank is metal and is leaking in spots at the top of the tank. Mercedes benz issued an extended warranty for 15 years to cover this make, model and year but for some reason this specific VIN number is not being honored by mercedes. The mechanic says this is a safety issue and must be addressed as timely as possible. There is a bulletin from Mercedes Benz dated January 2015 that speaks specifically to this issue. I have contacted two different Mercedes Benz service departments (daytona beach and north orlando) who confirm this is a serious issue and it needs to be addressed. They both referred me to the Mercedes Benz customer service assistance center in new jersey. Upon contacting them, they said my issue had to be elevated to a managerial level for follow up but I have not heard back from anyone as of this complaint. I find it terribly frustrating and concerning that a known problem like this is not being more aggressively addressed to ensure my family's safety. If I wasn't living this situation myself I would not believe it - this is ridiculous. Please help!!!.

Strong gas odor when tank filled up. Keeping fuel level at only half tank do not smell - but when fuel up to full or close to it strong odor is back.

When gas tank is filled there is a very strong gas smell. The fumes fill up the whole garage and can be smelled while driving. Once fuel is down to 3/4 tank the smell goes away. Dealer says my car is pzev and therefore does not qualify for action pe12001. They say my vehicle is exempt from the warranty extension afforded all other cars in its class. Looking for recourse as my mechanic says the fuel system is identical in the pzev and non pzev vehicles.

Hello guys. I am having an issue with my E350 (07), everytime I fill up my tank I can smell the gas. I don't smell it inside the car but outside the car and it is strong. It is really strong that you thought the gas spilled. Once the gas goes down to like 3/4 of a tank the odor will be gone. I tried tracing where the gas odor is coming from and I think it is under the fender on the rear driver side.

Strong fuel smell after gas tank fill up under rear seat. Did research from NHTSA who stated mercedes had extended warranty for fuel tank components leak. Notified rbm mercedes atlanta of problem who verified extended warranty and agreed to repair fuel tank leak. However rbm mercedes notified me that the rear seat cushion was so saturated with gas fumes that they could not get smell out without replacing rear seat cushions which mercedes would not cover this cost of $550. They will replace components to delete fuel leak but not stand behind the consequences of the leaky fuel system. . Their inferior fuel system is the cause of this unbearable fuel odor that remains after their tank repair should and must be considered a part of the fuel leak problem. They should bear the expense of correcting this health hazard gas fuel smell. Exposure to this fuel smell is a real and serious health hazard that cause impaired driving abilities and permanent health consequences and must be dealt with quickly to eliminate any further exposure. It was diagnosed that the sender unit under the back seat, which has a trap door, allowed the fuel odor to enter the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The mechanic I took my car to told me about the extended warranty that mercedes was forced to issue due to investigation your department did. When I called mercedes, I was told that my car did not qualify because it was a pzev vehicle. My car has exactly the same issues as described by the other mercedes 350 e series vehicles. I noted in your defective investigation results, that you not not distinguish between the pzev vehicles and the non pzev vehicles. This is an expensive repair, and I believe that my car qualifies for the recall.

My car is having a extremely strong gasoline smell inside and outside of my car after I fill up the car. I have not seen any gasoline leak on the ground. But the smell inside and around the car is getting worse as time goes by and now I am afraid to park the car in the garage. I started noticing the smell 8-10 months ago and it has been getting worse after fill up. The smell is noticeable after the the tank is half empty. This is a serious risk that needs to be addressed by Mercedes Benz. Mostly I smell the gas when the car is parked. The rear seat passengers have complained about the strong smell when the car is moving as well.

After fueling the car a strong smell of raw gasoline is present from near the outside rear of the vehicle. Once the level of fuel drops below 1/2 tank the smell goes away. The smell is most noticeable after the car is parked and stationary.

My vehicle only 98k miles. Defrauding consumers. No used parts new $2300 plus labor. Car stopped while in motion on city street almost accident.

I have a 2007 Mercedes Benz E350, when I fill up the tank I have an overwhelming smell of gasoline inside the car. It is so strong it gives me a headache. I am concerned for the safety of my children and myself. Obviously this is an ongoing issue that needs to be addressed by Mercedes Benz. Peoples lives are at risk here. This is supposed to be a high end car yet we are supposed to foot the bill due to Mercedes Benz not wanting to take responsibility for the defect. Too many people are have the same problems. Something needs to be done before someone loses their life behind Mercedes Benz defect.

I believe there is a leak in my fuel sending unit. First, the tank level indicator circuit is unreliable below a half tank. Secondly, after I top my fuel tank off, the car will run out of gas after using 19. 5 to 20 gallons. The tank is 21. 5 gallons.
