1 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2020

My car displayed all of the issues listed below for the electrical system recall. The fuel gague went "blank", other gagues acting irradical, the check engine light stay on, etc. My car make and model fall under this recall but have been excluded. I had to pay out of pocket $4678. 50 to replace the entire fuel tank due to this and the manufacture (Mercedes Benz) is refusing to reimburse me. (1) the fuel gauge readings may be incorrect; (2) a stuck fuel-level sensor may not be displayed in the instrument cluster; (3) the obd system may cause the check engine light to illuminate incorrectly; and, (4) the speedometer may be out of tolerance. In the event of a vehicle crash, the electrical fuel pump may not receive a crash signal that is required for the fuel pump to disconnect and prevent future fuel delivery as designed.

2 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2020

I have a 2008 mercedes E350 pzev model and the issue I came across is a major one. These models in particular have a big reputation on failing fuel pumps, and to make things worse on the pzev versions it can not be fixed unless the whole fuel tanked is swapped with a new one. The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank and its sealed just so there's no way of fixing the issue, on the other hand the non-pzev models have a replaceable pump which reduces the work and money to fix the issue. Mercedes has an applied extended factory warranty for the model w211 which covers this issue until 15years / unlimited miles for non-pzev models and 15years / 150k miles for pzev models. I see this very wrong because the pzev models are super expensive to fix and many people are over the 150k mile mark. This term should have been applied to the pzev models. I purchased this vehicle for $3,200 but to fix this problem it is over than $3,500. I am requesting mercedes to help me on this situation as these cars are well know to fail in that department. As it stands this car is unsafe to drive, it releases lots of raw gas smell and sometimes it will not start. I want mercedes to take full responsibility of this matter because this issue could have been a couple hundred dollar fix if the design after tank wasn't so bad. There are thousands of people complaining about the same issue with the pzev models and most of them are over the 150k mile limit which is not enough considering the age of the vehicles.

Car was being driven on a busy city street, stopped for red light, when I went to accelerate I had to pump the pedal-to be safe I decided to turn onto street at intersection where I was stopped at light, car came to a dead stop in middle of street. This was very close to the freeway on ramp that I was going to. 12 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

I purchased this used car and parked in my garage-came out about an hour after parking and noticed a very strong raw gasoline smell coming from the drivers rear inside the compartment. I removed the back seat and the fuel tank seal is leaking. Took the car to a repair shop to confirm and they agreed that the fuel pump, sending unit and tank seal are leaking fuel and are an explosion/fire hazard-need to correct this ASAP. They told me that this is a very common problem on this model car and that they have a lot of people come in with gasoline leaking from the same place. Very dangerous situation that mercedes needs to step up and repair.

13 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2014

Safety and health issue with fuel leaking from gas tanks and two fuel pumps in 2008 mercedes E350. There is terrible smell in the car that started around August 8, 2014 and has gotten worse. You cannot drive the car because of this smell. We find out from mercedes dealer that this is from corroded seals around gas tank and the two fuel pumps that pump fuel from the gas tank. Gasoline has leaked out and has saturated insulation materials inside the passenger compartment of the car. Apparently gas tank is located inside the passenger compartment under the rear seat. They are wanting to charge us $2,500 to fix and repair the damage - which is due to their faulty seals around the gas tank and fuel pumps - replace the fuel pumps, clean up all the spilled fuel, replace the insulation material and what ever else has been damaged. This should be a recall issue. I see story on internet where this has been reported 533 times as of March 19, 2013. . Read more...
