Ten problems related to other fuel system tank filling/charging have been reported for the 2008 Mercedes Benz E350. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Fuel has been pooling on the top of the fuel pump near sending, for months I would smell gas after filling up or even at about 3/4 of a tank. Assuming I had put in too much; inside fuel filler cover it warns not to top off tank. Something I didn't see until after the smell of fumes. Under mb's pzev warranty it states that if this is a part that could become defective and has given owners 15 years/150,000 whichever comes first to file a warranty claim and have it repaired or replaced at no cost to the owner. My vehicle has been out commission for almost 2 months because they simply believe that I have not maintain service of my vehicle, according to a comment made by one of their customer service representatives ( calls are recorded, debbie was the agent's name and call was made approximately around 10:15 am on Tuesday 2/19/2019. The diagnostic evaluation performed at park place motors CO. In arlington TX, determined that it was my fuel pump and not the sending unit, stated in their warranty all fuel system components are included provided the vehicle is within the warranty coverage period. My vehicle has 142,164 miles and is just shy of 11 years old. After viewing and receiving reports of other owners who have had similar issues have their vehicles fixed, again I believe this to be discriminatory on the part of the dealership and mbusa and ask that contact be made to either or both to clarify why my vehicle does not fall within the guidelines of their written warranty coverage.
Fuel tank: strong odor of fuel after filling up tank from rear of car, fuel tank area. Google suggests possible manufacture's recall. With heat emitting from exhaust area, could potentially lead to fire. . . I'm afraid for my wife and kids's safety. Is there currently an active recall? if so, TSB # please. If not, please duly note issues mentioned. Thank you. Nathan.
Very strong odor of gasoline in cabin after filling tank. Mb refuses to extend warranty per agreement with NHTSA to repair based on VIN # of vehicle.
Smell of fuel after filling up car, leaking fuel tank around fuel pump ring, fuel pump stopped working.
When I fill my tank with fuel, it smells like fuel is leaking because the odor is so strong. The odor stays very strong 2-3 days after filling up with fuel. I have a five (5) year old daughter who also rides daily in the car and this can't be good for her. According to the service department at critz Mercedes Benz, the leak is at the top of the tank. I know there is a recall and the warranty has been extended on fuel tanks with my model of car. However, I have contacted Mercedes Benz and they have told me that I have a different model of fuel tank than the recall one. Evidently, this type of fuel tank is not good also. I have taken my car to critz Mercedes Benz in savannah, GA for service since I purchased it in 2010. Mercedes benz contacted critz and they told them they would only give me a $200 discount on $4,000 worth of work. I don't think I should be held responsible for this. I am asking for the warranty on my type of fuel tank to be extended also. I'm sure there are others that are also having this same problem.
When filling up the gas tank to full, a distinct gasoline smell is present. When the car is driven and the gasoline indicator is less than full, the distinct smell goes away.
After filling up gas tank, strong odor of gasoline detected in the real wheel well on the passenger side. After driving for 50 or so miles, odor is gone. Took car to mercedes dealership and was told the fuel sending unit needed replaced and the repairs would be covered under cpo warranty.
Reference NHTSA action number: pe12001 2008 E350 rwd, after filling up full tank of gas today 07/17/2013 and park in the home's garage, strong gasoline odor smell coming from rear left (behind driver side) wheel.
For approximately a year and a half, when filling my gas tank, a strong gas smell occurs in the cabin of the car and in the house garage for a few days. To try and avoid this problem I avoid filling my car completely as the smell disapates as gas is consumed. On July 19, 2014, I filled my tank to the click and proceeded home, parking in the garage. My bedroom is above the garage. While sleeping for a few hours, I awoke with a horrible headache and the stong smell of gasoline in my room. I went to the garage and the smell of gas was overwelming. I stated my car and moved it out of the garage to the driveway for health and safety reasons.
At the beginning it was a slight smell of gas upon filling up. Thought on occasion it might have topped off to full. Smell of gas dissapated after a couple of days. Smell has now grown to the obnoxius stage and does not dissapate untill tank shows roughly 3/4 full. Noted that many other mb owners have registered the same complaint. Please add my name to the list. Based on others experience requesting the dealer to deal with it would have little or no effect. Collectively perhaps you can start some action aginst them to take action and fix this potentialy life threating problem. A repair cost is suggested to be over $1,000. 00 and frankly the car can not be sold with this existing problem, the liability would be catastrophic!.
