The contact owns a 2003 mercedes-benz E500. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the air bag suspension detached from the sub frame which caused the shock to lean into the tire. The rear driver’s side wheel ceased turning. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer nor an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. I have replaced the suspension before and now the suspension light comes back on. The car is down lower than normal. This is all the time.
I was driving my 2005 E500 4matic mercedes hit a giant pot hole busting my left passenger rim n wheel. Suspension malfunction begin by the car not rising due to a malfunction. Reported the incident to scdot on 12/5/2019. My claim was denied. I received a letter stating the pot hole was fixed a d they were unaware of the damaged road because no other reports was made about the gigantic pothole.
I was sold this car and because I did not know what the red "stop car too low warning" meant when I was driving it home, I was not only scammed by the used car dealership with no recourse, but I also was tricked into driving this car while it was not supposed to be driven for safety, per the manual of the vehicle. I will include a picture of the safety message from the manual where it states, "high priority messages appear in the multifunction display in red color". And the stop car too low message states very specific safety instructions that a reasonable person could not know. I am filing this recall complaint because how the system operates. I was sold this car while the struts were faulty and had already developed a leak and because the car was currently running the air compressor was able to keep up with the leak during the test drive because a slow leak will only go back down after an extended time period which I believe the dealer knew because he asked me how much I was trying to spend and all of a sudden he pulled my car out of their shop telling me they just got the car and haven't put it out yet. Please help me. When I parked the vehicle at a golf course parking lot during the test drive I was with my uncle, I did look up mechanic shops but because the car dealership was located in farmington, mn there was no place feasibly close enough for me to have the vehicle properly inspected. The issue is the ride of the vehicle on the air suspension was perfect so there was no way of me knowing the car was not supposed to be driven over 50 mph which you will see on the safety instructions, and the vehicle could have caused an accident because there was no way of me knowing the suspension being too low could cause the wheels to rub on the wheel well if the car is too low. I even added more radiator coolant the next day when I was driving the car and the stop car too low warning came on again. Over $5000 in repairs that I had to do because of safety, please help me.
Air suspension lower caused car stopped while driving. This air suspension has serious problem needs recall due to defective design. Springs have been replaced several times with the same problem. This problem will cause accidents while driving.
Airmatic suspension dropped while driving on the highway. Red light warning flashed that vehicle was low. Tried to raise car but it would not raise. Car was very close to ground and would not raise. . Began looking up, if other same models as ours have this problem and they do. Read several consumers compliants/ concerns who also own a Mercedes Benz they seem to have this similar problem. It's very expensive to fix at a dearlership. Looks like this vehicle may have a problem/defect with their airmatic suspension and it is very dangerous driving on the highway unknowing that your vehicle is dropping to ground. This really needs to be investigated to see if there is a problem with their airmatic suspension before someone gets hurt or killed while driving.

Air suspension - the entire vehicle has fallen almost to the ground due to defective air suspension(front and rear). This started within a year after I purchased the vehicle from a mercedez benz dealership but did not realize how serious the problem was until the last couple of years. As of today, the air does not pump into the car and therefore it's low to the ground.

While d irving home from work, after stopping for light, when light changed and I proceeded to make a right turn, I suddenly couldn't hardly turn. It took all I had to make turns, then after arriving home my husband noticed the suspension had dropped on the vehicles and was resting on the left rear tire. Power steering resoviour was empty and when he put some in. It all ran on the ground. V echo lie was in motion.

The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be inspected. The contact was informed that the right front and left front airmatic suspension needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. We had just stopped the vehicle in a parking space at a grccery. As we exited the vehicle and were walkng away from it we heard a loud pop as if a tire had a blown. We looked around but did not notice any low tire from loss of air. When we returned to the vehicle after grocery shopping my wife noticed the front passenger side was lower than the front driver side. When I started the vehicle I noticed the red warning light on the dash instrument panel "stop, car too low!" I turned the steering wheel to see if the wheel/tire would rub against the wheel well and it did not, so we drove home which was only one mile. I parked the vehicle in the garage. After reading a nmber of other similar complaints, it appears this malfunction should be a manufacturer recall for a deficient part or engineering design flaw for the malfunction.
Rear suspension had to be replaced airbags leaking engine motor mounts had to be replaced.
Car display panel showed "stop, car too low". The front left portion of the car was low and the tire almost touched the tire fender. Tried to drive the car to shop but can hear the tire scratched the fender when made turns. Towed the car to shop next day. Shop told me the air suspension was bad and needed to replace strut and recommended to replace both front two struts. This could be a very dangerous situation if it happened on freeway. Car could loose balance at high speed. Tire could bust at high speed. Checked online and saw many people had same problems. Now I remember that a friend in taiwan has collected more than 500 mercedes struts in his shop. He told me that this had been a well known problem for mercedes 500 series. Why mercedes did not recall cars for repair??? too expensive and can not afford to do it for mercedes?? it costed me $2,850 to replace the front two struts. Nhtsa should investigate it.
My 2003 mb E500 sport is equipped with the airmatic suspension. Without warning the rear suspension completely failed and dropped the rear end of the vehicle all the way down to the frame 2 inches from the asphalt. My small child was in the back seat of the vehicle at the time and would have bounced up to the ceiling if he had not been secured in his carseat. The car is not operational at this time and repair estimates exceed $3,000. 00.

While traveling north on I-5, at approx. 65 mph, display showed red lettering "vehicle too low stop car". Made my way over to side of road when message disappeared. Proceeded with trip. After a couple of miles, message appeared again. No significant difference in car handling or performance felt. Message again, disappeared. This continued until arrival at home. Thought faulty relay or some electrical problem. Once home, I got out of car and heard a sound as if air was escaping from a balloon. Noticed left front had dropped almost on tire. Car not driveable. Towed to shop. Bladder burst.
Front and rear end suspension are down to the ground ,,and a error code on dash: stop car to low, car is not drive-ablea.

The car lowered to an unacceptable point to where the car is a very rough ride and any bump is hit hard.
My air suspension is low on the car. When I leave the car parked for a day or so and come back the car sits very low. When I drive it it goes back up but now the car won't go back up it just stays low. I have several friends who have Mercedes Benz with the same problem.
