2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E63

Failure Date: 12/23/2014

I just purchased the vehicle used from a delearship. I drove the vehicle 2000 miles home and I parked the car in my garage. I filled the gas tank prior to parking in my garage. The next morning I entered my garage and smelled a strong odor of gasoline. I could see gas underneath my car by the rear diver's side wheel and the odor of gasoline was so strong my eyes were watering and I couldn't breath well. I opened the garage door and moved the car outside(pushed it outside to avoid an explosion). The odor of gasoline is very strong by the driver's side rear compartment. I keep the fuel tank at half full or less to minimize the gasoline vaporous smell. I bought the car in chicago and drove it home to washington state.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E63

Failure Date: 12/17/2014

There is a strong smell of gasoline over 1/2 tank full, and frequent check engine lights on for an evap system leak. This is a known issue with these cars, and I am concerned to drive the vehicle with gasoline fumes coming inside the car and creating a fire hazard. Mercedes knows about this problem and needs to address it.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz E63

Failure Date: 11/05/2014

After refueling my car's gas tank I began to notice some sort of gas leakage. It's especially pronounced when the car is parked in the garage since the fume is unmistakable. There is apparently a fuel leakage near the rear tire (driver's side). I'm concerned that if there were anything in the garage that is ignited it would cause some terrible incident. After I brought my car in for service I found out that the fuel sender unit needs to be replaced along with a related gasket. This type of problem should not experience failure at this low mileage.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz E63

Failure Date: 07/30/2014

On July 30th, 2014 I fueled my 2008 mercedes E63 amg in the same manner as I have for the past 3 years of ownership. When I parked my vehicle in the gararge and closed the door I noticed a faint odor of gasoline. I thought it was just the exhaust fume built up in the enclosed enviornment. The next day when I checked, there was an overwhelming odor of gasoline. Fumes were so strong I could clearly smell it from my 3rd floor apartment. Luckily my neighbor were away on vacation. The smell outside the entry way into the gararge was so strong it stung my eyes. Knowing the volatility gas vapors I immediately opened the gararge door. When I looked under the rear wheel arch of the driver side I saw a puddle od gasoline and intermittent drops of gasoline coming down from the fuel tank area. The gasoline did not stop leaking until I drive it to about 3/4 full. It took 2 weeks for the smell of gasoline to dissipate from the interior. I am aware of the class action lawsuit against mercedes for this very same problem.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E63

Failure Date: 07/28/2014

When I fill up the fuel tank to full, I smell a strong scent of gasoline inside the car. The fuel is leaking somewhere until I burn it down to about a 3/4 tank full.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz E63

Failure Date: 07/02/2014

I purchased a 2008 E63 Mercedes Benz in December 2013. Since the date of purchase I have noticed a strong odor and smell of gasoline upon fueling the automobile(both inside and outside of the vehicle). This odor progressively got stronger until I was unable to close my garage due to the fumes and the fear for my safety. I took the car to a Mercedes Benz dealer (luckily) to have it checked out prior to a road trip on 7/2/2014 and it was determined there was a leak in the fuel tank and sending unit (s). The technicians at the Mercedes Benz dealership indicated to me that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and operate. I have discovered that this particular issue is common to my particular vehicle make, model and year (a recall or class action lawsuit has been done against mb for this problem). I had the repairs done at Mercedes Benz but was charged for the repairs. I seek to recover the repair costs associated with this incidence. Please contact me immediately as I need guidance and information regarding this situation.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz E63

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

A strong fuel odor is present inside and outside the vehicle after a full fill-up. The odor dissipates after about 1/8 of a tank of gasoline is consumed. These symptoms reliably reoccur each time the fuel tank is completely refilled. The odor is not present as long as the tank is not filled past 7/8 capacity. The vehicle has not been inspected by a mercedes-benz dealership and no parts have been replaced to address this problem. Current mileage is approximately 72,500.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E63

Failure Date: 04/29/2012

I had just purchased the car the day before (April 28, 2012). When I filled the fuel tank, I notice a strong smell of gasoline. This has occurred every time I fill the car with fuel. At first I thought it was a fuel injector leaking down and something I would have to address in the near future. However, last week I went to drive the car after I had just filled the tank with fuel. The car was in my garage and the smell of gasoline was very strong. I noticed a puddle of fluid in front of the left rear tire. My first reaction was it was condensation from the air conditioning system. I bent down to look at it and then I notice a separate condensation tail coming from the middle of the car. I sampled the fluid stream from the middle of the car and indeed it was water. However when I looked at the other puddle, I notice a constant and rapid drip coming from the shield under the gas tank. When I sampled the puddle it was pure gasoline. This was most disconcerting as this fuel leak is very close to the exhaust and the brakes. Either one of which could ignite the fuel. I am a mechanical engineer with considerable auto racing experience, so I know how dangerous this can be. I called Mercedes Benz of sugar land on Monday (11/12/12) and talked to a service representative. I told him of the fuel leak and he told me there was no reported issues and no service bulletins for such a problem. I was also told to bring the car in and they would repair it at my expense. Having paid my way through my first degree as a mechanic as well as designing racing equipment for Ford motor company, I believe this should be covered under warranty as part of the emission system. This is of course secondary and in addition to the obvious safety hazard this condition presents.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E63

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

Car began smelling of raw fuel after being filled up. Found that the fuel level sending unit was leaking fuel out of the top of the fuel tank. A puddle of fuel was visible on top of the sending unit and was leaking onto the ground. This posed a significant fire risk and the car was moved outside. I have contacted mbusa and they have offered no help, saying this isn't a known issue. After researching the issue I have found it is widespread and affects multiple models. We can no longer fill the fuel tank without having a puddle of fuel left under the car.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E63

Failure Date: 10/28/2011

Normal fill up of gas tank causes fuel to leak out of top of sending unit. The seam just below the electrical connection powering the units motor seems to be weakly and/or improperly joined, allowing raw gas to leak out and pool into a small compartment under the drivers side rear seat. When I purchased car used 14 months ago, I noticed extreme gas smell after 1st night in the garage. I immediatly took vehicle back to dealer where they replaced sending unit under 30 day warrenty. Now only 14months later after a normal fill up at a gas station and then driving home, I noticed a very strong gas smell as I entered the garage the next morning. I have found that I am not the only one with this issue. Online research lead me to information that gave me the details neccesary to locate and remove the access panel under the drivers side rear seat. After removing the top access panel under the seat I found (rough estimate) a measuring cup of gasoline that was pooled around the base of the sending unit. So much fuel had leaked that it had overflowed the pumps recess and had pooled into the surrounding (rubber/plastic) recess that seals the top of the sending unit from the outside.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E63

Failure Date: 05/18/2007

Notice a gas smell after fulling up the tank. Did not really took it for anything but on the second fill smell again inside the car. Being summer I drive windows down and smell was not bad until I had the ac on. Online research prove it to be the tank. And its a known defect but mb will not fix it. More I check into the problem its an on going issue with these cars. 100k and no one will listen to your issues. I now fill 3/4 as the fix and no issues and can not sell it to someone else knowing this is a problem.
