Mercedes Benz GLK350 owners have reported 46 problems related to other fuel system (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Mercedes Benz GLK350 based on all problems reported for the GLK350.
I noticed fuel / gas smell from my vehicle. I looked up cause for this type of occurrence. I was referred to a recall bulletin for this particular cause - recall campaign #2013020002. My vehicle (VIN #) is not on the recall list. Both mb dealerships in my area state I would have to cover the cost to replace the fuel filter flange. I am certain the fuel filter flange is defective and should be listed in the recall. I pulled up the rear seat and removed the cover to expose the fuel filter flange. There was gasoline on top of the fuel filter flange. (I have documented with pictures).

I am writing to express a serious safety concern regarding the mercedes-benz glk 350, particularly related to the fuel pump system under the rear passenger area. It has come to my attention that the fuel pumps in these vehicles emit a strong, unpleasant odor every time the car is refueled. This poses a significant risk to both the driver and passengers. I have personally experienced a similar issue with a 2013 mercedes-benz Glk350, where the pumps were constructed with a substandard plastic material that, over time, will melt and start dripping from the top of the pump. This degradation of materials significantly compromises the integrity of the system, creating a serious hazard that could, in the worst case, lead to catastrophic outcomes, including fire or explosion. I strongly urge mercedes-benz to investigate and address this issue as a matter of priority. The potential consequences of ignoring this matter are severe, and a permanent solution must be found before any further risk is posed to the safety of vehicle occupants. Thank you for your immediate attention to this critical safety concern. I look forward to your prompt response and the implementation of necessary corrective actions. Sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

My truck has been smelling like gas for a while. I replaced the gas cap and still smelled gas when I was driving. Recently I started smelling it inside the car. It was leaking from two places under the car when I would drive it or just have it running. The mechanic took the plastic piece off the bottom and gas started pouring down. He took the back seats out and there was a pool of gas sitting on the fuel pump. He had me start the car and it immediately started spewing from the fuel pump inside the car. I did not know I could report a complaint so I did not take pictures. The car has been sitting since Saturday without being turned on and the gas spot on the ground remains wet. It’s very dangerous and right now I cannot fix it due to finances.

When we fill up the SUV with gas, there is a very strong odor of gas outside of the passenger door & some odor "inside the SUV. We looked online motortrend. Com said certain 2011-2012 mb clk 350 4matic are being recalled for a potential fuel leak caused by a crack in the fuel filter flange, Dec 15, 2012. ' we stopped by mbenz of lynnwood, wa and spoke garrett, a service rep. Garrett said that this was not a safety issue and we can continue to safely drive the SUV. We disagreed! we are very concerned because we believe there is a safety issue, our SUV has a crack fuel line could catch on fire while we are driving and potentially anyone around us could be affected. We did not get a malfunction or error message.
Gasoline smell around the car when parked in the garage. An inspection underneath the car and in the engine, bay failed to locate the leak. A [xxx] search for fuel leak on Mercedes Benz (mb) returned a number of hits for problems with leaks around fuel tank components on the glk and other mb models. Upon removal of the rear seat and a check under the two fuel tank covers, I found gasoline pooled on a concave area on top of the fuel suction pump assembly, mb, part 2184700994 (see attached photos). This plastic part has cracks in it that allow fuel to escape. I contacted mb u. S. Headquarters support as I thought that they may have been a campaign to replace this component since the 2012 glk had a recall for fuel flange cracks but the mb customer support team indicated that a campaign did not exist for this issue on the 2015 mb glk. Since the car is out of warranty, I purchased a replacement part 2184700994 and installed it which fixed the problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Vaporized gasoline fuel odor emanating from the back seat area due to fuel filter flange crack.
I smell gasoline every time I fill up the gas tank and don't smell it when not quite full. I haven't check yet but I think that the fuel pump flange has deteriorated. My CO-worker has the same exact issue and he found out that it was the fuel pump flange. There was a safety recall about this issue back in 2013 and I was not sure if this issue was corrected before on my vehicle and think this needs to be recalled again. Please investigate. Thank you. Sincerely,.
Evap small leak p0456 car cabin smells strong gas odor check engine light is on.

It has come to my attention that the fuel pumps in these vehicles emit a strong, unpleasant odor every time the car is refueled. As a safety engineer, I can confirm that this poses a significant risk to both the driver and passengers. I have personally experienced a similar issue with a 2010 mercedes-benz c300, where the pumps were constructed with a substandard plastic material that, over time, will melt and start dripping from the top of the pump. This degradation of materials significantly compromises the integrity of the system, creating a serious hazard that could, in the worst case, lead to catastrophic outcomes, including fire or explosion. I'm having the same issues as described in recall no. 12v557000. However when I called mercedes they mentioned that my VIN wasn't part of that recall. I don't understand how can that be when my car is 2011-2012 Glk350 model as described in recall and I smell gas, can see gas leaking and the flange where my fuel filter is cracked as well as the flange to the fuel pump side. This car as well as many other mercedes have two separate flanges that are prone to crack and not just the fuel filter side but the fuel pump side as well. There's many forums where they all have complained about this issue. If you can smell gas, there's obviously fuel vapors leaking and not to the mentioned the physical leak that is landing everywhere you drive. This is a serious fire hazard and is extremely harmful to my kids and passengers.
My vehicle started smelling like gas. Took it in for inspection. Mechanic found a leak in the fuel assembly, resulting in gasoline pooling inside the vehicle under the back seat and leaking out through the bottom of the vehicle. I went online and noticed a recall was issued for 2011 and 2012 models. Ongoing issues with fuel modules leaking although no visible cracks were present. I contacted mercedes to have them review if this would be covered under their recall and they declined saying they did not want to cover this under their recall. Mercedes made me take the vehicle in to their dealership in kahului maui to verify the issue which I did. They sent me a quote for the repair with no specific parts listed, just fuel module in the amount of $1884. 71. Comments: "left fuel pump/filter assembly leaking" no warning lamps or check engine lights came on which is disturbing since exposed gasoline could lead to ignition with a small spark. With further investigation online I found that I am not the only Glk350 2014 owner that is having issues with fuel module leaking. Mercedes inspection form available here: https://app. Mykaarma. Fuel/propulsion system - there is a gas leaking from somewhere above the gas tank. I did not have this fixed yet because I see a recall for this but my VIN wasn't included in the initial recall. There are 17 other complaints on here for the same issue but we haven't been included in the recall as of today 1/2/2023. The recall that fixed other 2011 glk 350s is NHTSA campaign number: 12v557000 (fuel system, gasoline). My car is available for inspection upon request. I am very afraid of a fire because the tray underneath the car on the passenger side is full of gas & the tray is right over the exhaust. I stuck a large cotton swab in the tray to soak up the liquid & since it smelled like gas I tried to light it. It caught on fire immediately. This is definitely a safety hazard as it can ignite if a spark or lit cigarette would happen to bounce up in there. Yes it is unlikely but I have seen stranger things. The tray holds a large amount of gas and is directly under the gas tank. The check engine light came on and the diagnostic machine says fuel evap control system leak. A mechanic looked at the leak after taking the rear passenger tire off and finding the gas pooling in that tray. Odometer reads 145,000.
Mold in a/c.
The fuel tank flange cracked. After refill the tank, the fuel smell is in the cabin, and fuel leak out under the seat.
Due to the same defect mercedes issued a recall for on the 2011 glk, the fuel and sender pumps cracked due to a product defect causing gasoline to leak out of the vehicle as well as into the vehicle. The leak is near the exhaust causing a high degree of risk for car fire. Online research reveals numerous 2010 glk owners with the same issue at various points in the life of the vehicle.
When my child was riding in the same car with me, my car suddenly died due to all fuel leaked out. Our car ran out of gas because all fuel were leaked. We can smell gas inside the cabin. Initially I thought car died because we ran out of the gas. After receiving 2 gallon gasoline from the tow truck, we saw dripping gasoline from the bottom of the car when the car engine is on. I am glad it did not happen to me on the highway or there was no fire sparkles near by. My car is only 110k miles with no accident record. I do not expect a car has a defective hazard like this. People could be killed. We took the car to the dealership. Fuel pump assembly 221-470-17-90-28 and fuel filter unit221-470-17-90-28 will be replaced. Benz has recalled 2011 model. I have news below, " the specific models are the 2011-2012 c300, Glk350, e350, s400 hybrid, s550, s63 amg, cl550 and cl63 amg, but only those built from April 18, 2011, through July 12, 2011. Mercedes says there are some 5,800 vehicles affected by the latest recall in the u. S. The unit may crack when operated in high temperatures. This may cause fuel to leak, which could then cause a fire. " my question is, why my 2010 model was not recalled? they were using same parts. If my car's parts has the defect, which caused "fuel to leak, which could then cause a fi re. " for just under 110k miles, why NHTSA does not do anything to prevent this happen? if you search "fuel leaking benz" , you will see tons of consumer complains. I could have ended up die if I was not lucky. Fuel pump is a critical part, it should not drip gasoline. Can you force benz to take action before people died?.
Fuel leaking from top of the fuel tank.
The fuel pump tank closing cover (p/n 204-470-04-38) cracked and caused fuel to pool on it. This happens when the tank is above 3/4 full resulting in strong fuel fumes when the car is parked inside. It is likely when parked in a garage to be an explosion hazard due to the fumes. Looking on the user forums and internet this is not an uncommon issue and should be addressed as this design is used on most mercedes fuel tanks in the 2000's.
Every time the car's tank is filled with gas some leaks out on the ground. There is also a strong smell of gas in the cabin. I see there are many other complaints concerning this issue. Will someone please take action and force Mercedes Benz to fix this defective product.
I have a mercedes glk 350 . When I fill up the gas tank in full I can smell gas. I called the dealer and they refused to fix it because there is no recall in mercedes glk 350 and it is not covered by emission warranty. They will charge me $200 just to diagnose the problem.
Two fuel tank leaks that are a fire hazard. First one was around fuel pump, cracks in plastic flange. Had repaired with a sealant. Recently another leak around the filler tube. Leak around passenger side rear wheel when filling tank. Strong smell of gasoline if not completely filled to cause leak. I would think a dangerous fire hazard. I see recalls for other year models, but not 2010, even though basically identical.
String gas smell from under the car, found the fuel pump cover cracked and seal faulty.
I noticed the smell of fuel coming from my vehicle, specifically when I top off at the gas station. This is dangerous as fuel can combust if ignited. I took the vehicle to be service, to find out about the fuel odor and was advised of the NHTSA recall. Upon researching I see that although the NHTSA recall #12v557000 specifically covers this issue, when entering my VIN, the recall does not appear for my specific vehicle, which is a 2011 glk-350. It appears there are several affected vehicles not included in the recall. This is a failure on behalf of Mercedes Benz as it is simple to conclude that the issue includes more vehicles than initially recalled. These vehicles need to be included as well.
After a fuel fill-up, I smell fuel inside the cabin and outside by the gas tank opening. This causes a constant stress. . . , what if there is a fire? I heard and read so many similar complains and concerns. This should constitute for a recall. What is the responsibility of NHTSA to the consumer's safety.
Lately, everytime I filled up the gas tank, I can smell gas from the rear left area. After some time when the tank is maybe a little over half the smell is gone. I assume there is a leak somewhere from the fill pipe to the tank. Maybe a bad rubber connector, gasket/seal failure? the vehicle has never been involved in any crash. Normal usage. Low mileage. Should this be covered by mb warranty at no cost to the owner? thank you.
Every time I fill up my mercedes glk 350 with fuel there is a very strong odor of fuel in my garage after I park the car. There is no visible leak of fuel on the garage floor or notification of any issue on the dashboard. The strong fuel order goes away after driving the car and burning off a gallon or so. This is a serious safety and health issue that started few weeks ago and is of a big concern to me and to my family.
I have two recalls for my vehicle and mercedes has made no effort to contact me regarding repairs since 2011. I have take my vehicle in for service mutliple times and the recalls has not been repaired.
When I fill up my 2011 glk 350 with gas I have a very strong raw gas smell from the vehicle. It is so bad that I am afraid it will cause a fire inside my garage. It goes away as the fuel is run out of the vehicle. I check with mercedes and with my VIN # it was not on a recall list however many other glk 350 were on a recall list for the same problem. It is recall 12v557000. I feel mercedes should cover all 2011 glk 350 for this issue as it is a definite safety issue with raw gas leaking. It was also in a bulletin sent to dealers about this issue. Nhtsa id 10059568. It is a leaking fuel filter flange. It is also a very dangerous problem!! the fix for it is replace the fuel filter flange and plastic pump also normally at a cost of $1200. 00 at the dealer. Mercedes needs to recall all 2011-2012 glk 350 for this issue in my opinion.
Tl-the contact owns a 2014 mercedes-benz glk-350. The contact stated that while his spouse was driving the vehicle, there was an abnormal fuel odor. The vehicle was taken to mercedes-benz of scottsdale, 4725 n scottsdale rd, scottsdale, az 85251, (480)409-0409, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that a plastic tubing leading to the fuel injector fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted or informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72000. Ah.
On a hot humid day on July 21, 2019 after driving for 70 minutes of mostly highway mileage, there was a strong gas smell as I exited the driver's side door. My daughter exiting the rear passenger side door also noticed the intense smell of gasoline. The next day, I drove a short distance of 7 minutes and again I notice strong nauseating gas smell as I exited the car. Called the dealership and told to bring car in as soon as possible. I was informed that the fuel filter cracked. I researched the internet and noted that the 2011 and 2012 Glk350 models were on recall list; however the 2010 model was not! I was given an estimate of $1250 (labor and parts included) for the replacement of new fuel filter. I will upload receipts as soon as the job is completed (I am waiting for the work to be completed as I type this report).
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Mercedes Benz Glk350. The contact stated that the service engine light began to illuminate on the vehicle upon start. The contact had a neighbor inspect the vehicle and a diagnostic code showed that there was a fuel leak on her vehicle. The contact stated that there was a recall on the vehicle for the fuel system under NHTSA campaign number: 12v557000(fuel system, gasoline). The contact had associated her fuel leak with the recall. The contact left a message with a dealer(mercedes-benz of ontario 3787 e guasti rd, ontario, CA 91761 909-212-8400) and had been waiting for a call back. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure; however, she was informed that due to her vehicle not being included in the recall, they would not be able to offer assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 160,000. Jo.
