1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Mercedes Benz ML320

Failure Date: 02/08/2020

Our vehicle caught fire. My wife and I had just gotten off of the interstate when we started to smell an odd smell. We pulled into a hotel parking lot where we started to see smoke coming from the front of the vehicle. I stopped the vehicle in a hotel driveway, put the vehicle in park. We got out of the vehicle and saw flames underneath the vehicle. We called 911 and hotel staff tried to extinguish the fire but it continued to grow. The fire dept. Arrived and put out the fire. Photos are attached.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2002 Mercedes Benz ML320

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

Tl- the contact owns a 2002 Mercedes Benz m-320. The contact stated that the vehicle was riding extremely rough and failed to pick up speed as the failure progressed. The vehicle was diagnosed by two independent mechanics who stated that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. In addition, the vehicle was taken to a dealer who stated that the part was no longer in production and that the contact may replace the part with an aftermarket catalytic converter but the vehicle may not pass an emissions inspection which was unacceptable for the contact. The catalytic converter failed on the front passenger side and the contact was uncertain of who would be able to replace the part with an oem catalytic converter. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was waiting for them to determine a solution to repair the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000. Dyd.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 1998 Mercedes Benz ML320

Failure Date: 12/27/2014

My battery was low and unknown to me the Ml320 for this year loses its transponder codes in the das security module when you try to start the vehicle with a low battery. This is evidentally the third key that has lost its programming on my vehicle due to low battery voltage. Cost so far is 499 for a key, weeks waiting for the key from germany, and 300 to program it once they recieve the key. Its a dealership only item so its very very costly. This is a known problem with mercades and checking the forums it seems that everyone that has 1998-2000 model mercades all lose their transponder codes between 129,000 and 132,000 miles no matter what. This is an obvious manufacturers defect and a known issue that should be paid for by mercades. I never had these issues with my two 2002 ml500's but I will never purchase another benz in my life.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2000 Mercedes Benz ML320

Failure Date: 09/21/2013

I was on the freeway, I was using my cruise control (luckily just after heavy traffic hours) just like any other day. A car slowed in front of me, so I went to apply my brakes. As soon as I hit the brake pedal the brakes not only did not disengage the cruise control but the brakes got stiff and would not work no matter how hard I pressed them. At the same time the accelerator was floored and the car was trying to go what seems like 130-140 mph. It took all my strength to try and keep it at an appropriate speed. Luckily my passenger told me to stay calm and tried to help me disengage the cruise control. I had to maneuver the car to the slowest lane and shift it into neutral. That was the only option I had besides crashing into the car in front of me. I am extremely shaken from this event, I have anxiety/panic attacks whenever I drive any vehicle now. I am currently looking for a physician to help me work out some kind of treatment/therapy.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2000 Mercedes Benz ML320

Failure Date: 03/16/2012

After driving vehicle for ten minutes, it was parked and engine secured. When trying to restart vehicle, starter engaged but engine would not turn over. Starter continued to run for approximately five seconds after releasing the key. Independent mechanic told me to let the vehicle rest for fifteen minutes and then restart. Vehicle started normally after fifteen minute rest. Diagnosis did nor result in any computer codes. Mechanic said the year vehicles 1998-2002 were experiencing crankshaft sensor failures. Sensor was replaced and vehicle is operating normally.

Failure Date: 05/02/2010

I am the owner if a 2000 mercedes Ml320. This morning as I came home on this car and suddenly it sped up and lost control when it came to the driveway. I leg was on the brake when I came to the driveway no way I could have put my leg on the accelerator. I believe there is a defect in its design and cause it to suddenly speed up. Please look into this since it can be a serious matter. My other 2 cars in the garage were badly damaged in addition to the this Ml320.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 1999 Mercedes Benz ML320

Failure Date: 04/17/2009

Driving home from work the car's idle went to zero. This happened half-way home. Its a 30+ mile drive from work to home. Essentially the car just quit operating while merging on the interstate. Power steering was lost and this left my 8 month pregnant wife stranded in the middle of the merging lane to the interstate without the capability to restart the car. Successive tries to start the car failed. Only after 5 minutes the car was able to start and be pulled over to a safe place. Tried a 2nd time to drive it home and it left me stranded again without it being able to restart. Had to be towed on a flatbed tow truck home the remainder of the drive home.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Mercedes Benz ML320

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

This car should qualify as a lemon. We spent over $65k on it new in January of 2009 and it has easily costs us $65k to keep it running since. Something significant breaks on it every 60 days since owning it. The turbo went out most recently after a bad oil seal let oil into it. $6500! the car may have sadly been cursed since day one. Our sales person at Mercedes Benz of sf died right after we bought it. Things started to break immediately after. People ran into it, etc. It has been the worst car owner experience in my life.

Failure Date: 09/09/2003

The harmonic balancer on my 1999 mercedes Ml320 engine type m112 failed and resulted in $4,000 to repair. The part failed with no advanced warning. Even the mercedes dealership who performed the power steering recall two weeks prior to the failure did not spot any problem and they knew to be looking. I was lucky the failure occurred in my driveway backing out of the garage in stead of on the freeway with an immediate loss of power steering or destruction of the engine.
