4 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 09/10/2014

Power steering began making low pitched humming noise, which led me to discover a power steering fluid leak. Upon doing research online, and talking to mercedes techs, I've found this to be a very common problem with these vehicles. It can and has led to power steering / rack failure and is a major safety hazard.

5 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

The original symptoms were the power steering started to get jerky (flat spots) meaning there was power assist from 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock, then hard effort from 2 -4 o'clock and so on. It initially was drivable but after a few hundred more miles it has become dangerous, as a tremendous amount of effort must be used when turning, then gets easy, then tight. I have checked and there are no fluid leaks and the reservoir is full. My mechanic checked it out, and he said it appeared that the steering rack is bad. He recommended we flush and change all the fluid with mbz approved:236. 3 first to see if it improved. It did not and he said I was looking at $2000+ to replace the rack. After owning two Mercedes Benz vehicles over the last 10 years, I've been loyal but having only purchased this 2008 Ml350 for less than a year and only 65k miles I find it disconcerting that I've read so much on these premature steering rack problems on these vehicles. I checked with mb, only to learn that my VIN was not on the list for 'recalls'. This is a serious issue, and mb needs to be held accountable! does someone need to be seriously hurt or killed before mb is held accountable for this issue??!.

6 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 03/28/2014

Rack and pinion leaked all the fluid due to a defective part. I replaced the powerstering pump few month ago and paid close to $1200 (possible the back rack damage it then). Now the sterring rack needs to be replaced and the dealer wants clost to 2,000 to fix it, they are using refurbished parts. According to the dealer mb is not supplying new steering racks anymore, mb only supports repairing kits to refurbish defective ones. This is completly insane, first they put a defective part in the vehicle, that they charge you an arm and leg to replace it with a refurbished one. E recall is a must and mb should be forced to put new parts as the steering system is very crucial to safety.

7 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 11/05/2013

I was driving and noticed my vehicle was making a very loud whining noise, so I took it to a local shop. The owner of the shop said my power steering fluid was empty and I had a leak. I decided to make a appointment at the dealership and they said I needed my power steering rack head resealed. I think this is a very dangerous situation and mercedes needs to have a recall on this. I have noticed other complaints besides mine listed on here. I shouldn't have such serious problems with this brand at such low mileage, its ridiculous.

9 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2005 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 12/20/2010

The 2005 ml 350 I believe is experiencing the same problems that led to recalls for ml series in 2003, 2004 and possibly other years. The power steering system looses fluid caused by leaks in the plumbing of the power steering pump. The only sign of an initial problem was the noise made by the pump because of loss of fluid. This vehicle requires special fluid which is not commonly available. Loss of steering control is the result of the loss of fluid.

10 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2005 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 08/25/2010

Bought the 2005 Ml350 used last summer (2010). In the first few weeks of owning the vehicle while slowing down or stopped, the acceleration seemed to drop low enough to make the vehicle stall. No check engine light on, but took it back to the dealership and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. Since then, it has happened multiple times over the year. Also, while starting the vehicle it will stall and I will have to keep retrying to start it and press the acceleration pedal to get it to finally start. (only use the recommended octane suggestions from the mercedes booklet, and follow all directions during fueling) finally, seems to possibly have a steering fluid leak. (only use mercedes power steering fluid from dealership).

11 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2004 Mercedes Benz ML350

In regarding to safety recall #2003-040005: 1. Hose clamp used to secure the power steering fluid cooling hose to the power steering fluid cooler failed to provide sufficient clamping force for this connection. 2. Its consequences: a. Power steering pump failing b. Valve covers leaking 3. Mercedes-benz of south charlotte replaced power steering pump, replaced valve cover gaskets. Total charges were $1,544. 62 ($775. 40 for parts, the rest was for labor). Safety recall #2003-040005 letter states that "if you have paid to have this recall condition corrected prior to this notice you may be eligible to receive reimbursement". I presented this case to mercedes-benz of south charlotte but they denied my request for reimbursement. I strongly believe that I should receive the reimbursement. I have all the document to support this case. Please help us to investigate this matter. Thank you in advance for your attention and time.
