In may 2017, while driving, check engine light came on. Acceleration was extremely reduced in a very dangerous way. Took vehicle to dealer. Dealer diagnosed problem as an oil leak that has been leaking on the wiring harness, which caused wiring/electrical system for entire vehicle to completely fail. Estimated repair is $13,500. The vehicle has 34k miles, and the original factory warranty expired in late February 2017. Had routine oil change at dealer in February, no oil leak detected. Dealer service tech was very familiar with this issue and has seen ten or so of them. Unprotected wiring harness seems to be a manufacturing defect. Several months prior to warranty expiration, reported small electrical problems to mb dealer, but dealer was unable to replicate/determine cause. All scheduled maintenance completed at mb dealer per mb schedule. Contacted mbusa to request a goodwill repair credit given the nature of the repair, the history of the vehicle, history with mb, etc. And since this defect likely predated warranty expiration. Mbusa customer care center was indifferent. Parts alone are $8,000. Mbusa offered to contribute only 10%.

"takata recall". In house wiring,3rd brake light, turn markers ,brake lights all non operational. Taken to dealership problem still occurs!.
During a routine change of a headlight lamp, the maintenance technician discover that the insulation on all four wires in the left front headlight assembly were cracked, disintegrating and missing leaving the bare wires exposed. The maintenance technician would not change the bulb until a new wiring harness was fabricated and the discrepancy was corrected. This is a dangerous situation. The bare wires are in an enclosed headlamp assembly, contacting flammable materials. A short in these wires can lead to system failures, overheating and fire in the headlamp area. Recommend a recall for inspection and if this discrepancy is discovered, recommend an immediate replacement of the wires in the headlamp assembly.
My Ml350 kept blowing it's brake lights. After awhile of this I realized that something was obviously wrong. At this point both lights were out at the same time. I took it in to find that the sockets were burnt out and needed to be replaced. I was then told that the wiring also needed to be replaced and Mercedes Benz had a fix for it all but at a price. I was also told that the c series had a recall for the same problem. Why are there no recall for the ml or the m series?.
Takata recall Mercedes Benz notified by usps safety recall 03/16. No further correspondence or other action/s to indicate rectify of safety recall since. Mercedes houston north dealership visit 10/29/16 at which I purchased refuses vehicle return in light of indicated airbag recall, stating I cannot simply return the vehicle. Sales rep indicates such vehicles are taken as trade-in and/or sold to competing dealers like carmax which pays higher for unwanted/unsafe vehicles, but offers an assurance to assuage my safety concern that mercedes are more structurally sound than other manufacturers, namely Honda in which drivers/passengers died from takata airbag deployments. Rep further states airbag replacement unlikely since takata is behind in manufacturing due to tsnumai;processing new work as priority to safety recall/reworks. Rear brake lights went out within short period of each other. Checked with dealer, wanted to replace whole light assembly. Checked online, turns out to be faulty wiring/install for which mb actually has a repair kit. Seems to be quite a frequent problem. In fact the mb c class was recently recalled for that same reason, why not the Ml350???.
The contact owns a 2006 Mercedes Benz Ml350. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when it ignited in small flames underneath the hood area; a bypasser extinguished the fire. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and they informed that the fire originated from the fuse box which completely destroyed the wiring harness and caused other damages. The insurance company continued to investigate the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 37,000. Updated 03/24/lj.
