Prior to faillure, dealership and manufacturer were contacted regarding the flashing battery light. Lights would dim during accelerations or reving of engine. Prior to final warrenty check (@ 35. 800 miles), notified dealership that alternator probably needed replacement. This was denied by dealership. Now, 1500 miles later, and out of warranty, alternator fails causing vehicle to stall in the middle of the road. Safety issue, since many more fomoco vehicles (cougars, contours) have been experiencing this same problem. However fomoco refuses to issue recall total repair cost $700. Dt.

My car is a lemon. Have had a new engine put in it 2 times because the rods spun. I have had the brake lights "fixed" 3 times, the alternator replaced 3 times, new catalytic converters twice. New power steering. Transmission done 3 times. Theres definantly more I just cant think of alllllll my repairs on this 1999 Cougar. I bought it used and it has now 98000 miles cause I drive out of state.
Bought car at dealer on 02/05/01 since then I've had to repair car on too many occasions. Here some of the repairs I've had to do on this car ever since I bought it. On 3/brakes, 10/dealership replaced battery and performed a recall,12/dealership replaced alternator, 05/brake pads, 04/water pump belt, 09/replaced batter, 10/11/replaced alternator and belt, 10/14/replaced positive battery terminal, 12/replaced radio, 02/replaced motor mount, 01/07:replaced battery, 02/replaced strut, 02/replaced shock absorber, 10/replaced battery, 04/replaced bearing, transmission & anchor engine mount and don't have the date but also had to replace the windshield wiper motor. These repairs are what I have in receipts yet for example I have replaced the motor mounts more than once. Currently the following areas of my vehicle do not function: the horn no longer works, cruise control is not functioning, the air conditioner no longer heats, & the brake light of my vehicle remained lit when the vehicle was on and now have failed to turn out (lamp socket is burnt).
Lights flickering, loss of electrical power, alternator needs replacement part, emission system malfunction, malfunctioning ignition. Received poor service from dealer.
Problems with odometer, gas gauge, turn signals,windows, radio, hazard lights, air bag lights, speedometer. . The mileage and clock were no longer visible. A new battery and alternator were installed prior to the incident. The sun roof leaked constantly and was also fixed prior to the incident. The battery and wrench light were constantly illuminated. This vehicle had been repaired over and over again. Consumer had to exit and barely made it home when she entered the driveway, the vehicle completely died. . The air condition was not cold enough, the cigarette lighter was broke, the brakes made a grinding noise, the door locks/latches were inoperative, and the vehicle had a transmission leak.
While driving at highway speeds, vehicle suddenly accelerates. Dealer has yet to be contacted. Consumer states that when the vehicle suddenly accelerates, the lights on the dashboard and the headlights go out, then the vehicle stalls it will not cut back on, dealer replaced the fuel pump and the alternator, however vehicle continued to stall, a mechanic stated that the alternator had burned and needed replacing again, alternator continues to burn and no one can figure out why.
Vehicle has experienced some electrical problems, consumer states the power windows and radio failed at the same time, a sizzling noise could be heard from the speakers, speakers and windows have failed 3 times, January 2001, dealer inspected vehicle and found a bad alternator.
Lights flicker, then loses electrical power. Alternator, 2 batteries, wiper motor, sensor, windshield (stress crack from bottom) replaced. Requested on several occasions from bob site Lincoln Mercury service department that the Mercury factory zone manager be contacted, and to have the zone manager contact me. Each request was denied. I contacted Mercury customer assistance and was told that only the dealership could contact the factory zone managers.

Excessive wear of the front brake rotors and pads. Upon acceleration vehicle pulls to the right. Also, alternator fuse has blown twice, dealer has put in a larger fuse, but did not solve problem. Dealer has yet to determine the cause.
The vehicle has been taken in several times for these ongoing problems. The problems have occurred since the first week of having the vehicle. Arbitration papers were filed but request was denied due to dealership not registering problems as well as indicating a part capable of fixing the problem, however the part did not. Vehicle was taken to a new dealership who registered the compliants. Dealership replaced the ignition switch but problems still remain. Dealership told owners it was an electrical problem that would be to complicated to find. The vehicle is a lease and is used for traveling back and forth for a college student on highways where the vehicle has failed several times.
Persistent high pitched whine comes thru the speakers in the car. Noise intensifies with more gas. Told it was altenator but now is said to be "normal". Gromets on the emergency brake cables were left off during assmebly of the car. Dealership neglects consumer in response to fixing these problems.
Consumer called complaining about having problems with the alternator. Also stated that while driving the vehicle it died with a warning of the panel. Dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed a new alternator and a battery. Ph.
While driving 55 mph, consumer noticed the dash lights and head lights dimming flowing engine hesitation which resulted in the engine stalling. The consumer restarted the vehicle and returned to normal driving. The dealership serviced the vehicle and replaced the alternator and battery, however the problem return. Please provide further information.
Transmission surges and hesitates upon accelleration causing unexpected increases in speed; rear hatch will not open; brakes still grind after replacement; after door latches replaced, car now makes whining noice; starter replacement makes high pitched noise; coolant light comes on--dealer's solution is to overfill coolant level.

The cable that attached the battery to the alternator shorted out and caused a fire. The consumer was able to put the fire out. Please describe further.
