Two problems related to door hinge have been reported for the 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Hinges on both front doors will not stay in the first open position. If on a slight incline doors will automatically close on your legs as you try to exit. Dealer claims that Ford will not do anything about this. This does not sound reasonable to me. I am elderly and have to have the door hold open in the first position. My wife and I have both had the doors close on our legs.
Door hinges on both front doors do not hold open if car is parked on a slight incline. This is dangerous as I am elderly and have a tendency to lift my legs out first, and ahve had the door close on my legs. This is my third Grand Marquis and this have never happened before. I feel that Mercury has changed the hinges on the doors to a less expensive hinge.
