Three problems related to door have been reported for the 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
When the auto is put in gear, all the door locks are activated (anti-carjacking system?). When the car is stpped, the passengers in the rear seat are not able to open the doors from inside even though the childproof lock has been disengaged. Passengers are trapped inside the car and the only way they can open the doors is by unlocking them via the power lock in the front doors. Local Mercury service dept appears to think this is normal. Told me that evry single 99 Grand Marquis in the lot behaves the same way. Also I have friends with the same problem in their Lincoln. Suppose the driver is unconscious, how do the passengers get out?.
Both driver's / passenger's doors would close on occupants' legs while entering vehicle. Dealer notified, and informed consumer nothing could be done. Please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
