1 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 02/23/2016

No accident, 2/23/16, the air bag light and chimes activated when car started and continued while car ran. Very distracting. Also, once, the 'air bag off light' near top of glove compartment came on. Checked NHTSA site and found many complaints about air bags/seat belt tensioners, and air bags not deploying which is why I am filing this complaint. -- this is obviously a safety hazard, why no recall? will go to my dealer in maryland to find out more.

3 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 12/23/2015

On December 23, 2015 I was driving my 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis through an intersection in harris county, texas. I had just received a green light and was proceeding to make a left turn when my vehicle was hit by another vehicle in the driver's side front. The damage to my vehicle was severe. The at fault driver's insurance company declared my vehicle a total loss. My vehicle's air bags did not deploy. I was wearing my seat and shoulder belts at the time of the collision. I was examined at a nearby emergency room. They said "no serious injury" but my orthopedic surgeon said I have a separation of my left shoulder.

4 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 03/05/2015

I started my vehicle, the air bag light on the dash flashes three times, then another three times, than stays on solid. I took my car to the local Ford dealership and they diagnosed that both driver and passenger seat belt pre-tensioners are shorted out and need to be replaced at a cost of $1608. They told me my air bags will not deploy due to this malfunction. I called Ford motor CO and they said there are no plans to issue a recall over this problem. They did give me a claim number and told me that if I get it repaired at a Ford dealership, and there ever is a recall, they will consider reimbursement. A quick search on the internet indicates that this is a fairly common problem with the 2005 Grand Marquis. Given that the air bags will not deploy in an accident, how is this not subject to a safety recall?.

6 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 07/28/2014

My 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis airbag light is on. Dealership claims the airbags will not deploy due to a malfunctioning seatbelt pretensioner. Repair/replacement will cost $1800 to do both passenger and driver. Car only has 29,250 miles on it. I have found where this seems to be an ongoing problem with this model. Also, saw where this issue has caused airbags not to deploy in a collision. Some have reported the problem reoccurring after repair. This is a bad design by Mercury and a huge safety concern that should have been issued a recall!.

9 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

I own a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis GS original owner with 37,700 miles on the odometer. A week ago my drivers side air bag warning light came on when I started the car and it remains on while driving. After checking with one of my mechanics, I was told the air bag will not deploy if I am in a front end collision. I think this is the same problem others 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis' have had with the drivers side seat belt pre-tensioner, and think it will needs to be replaced. I will be contacting my Lincoln(formerly Mercury) dealership on bell road in phoenix, az, to take it in for repairs. While I have never had a accident with the car, I can't take the chance that me or my wife will not have the air bag deploy in the case of a front end collision. I purchased the auto in December, 2004, and am the original owner with only 37,700 miles on the car. Ljh.

10 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

While leaving my home I noticed the amber airbag lamp on the dashboard had remained illuminated; the warning chime also sounded periodically. Upon taking the vehicle to a dealership that day I was told the driver's side seatbelt and buckle had to be replaced, and that the airbag would not deploy until the necessary repairs were made. Since that time I have driven without having the repair done because of the cost (approximately $800). I have done considerable research on the internet about this problem and found numerous instances of this problem occurring on the Mercury product line, primarily from repair forums, advice websites, etc. My search was by no means all inclusive, but I feel it representative of a systemic problem with, at least, the Mercury product line, and may extend to other Ford products. It certainly represents a serious safety issue concerning the use of airbags for passengers and driver. Thank you in advance for your consideration. 26 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 07/30/2005

My wife was driving our 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis (pre-certified, bought off the showroom floor August 2004); our three teenage foster care children and I were passengers. Our marquis entered the parking lot of convenience store so that we could install air in left front tire. We did a u-turn in parking lot to proceed to air compressor. With her right foot on brake pedal, my wife steered the car through the u-turn, heading toward air compressor. Suddenly, without any warning, the car accelerated uncontrollably. The brake would not work - brake pedal was pushed all the way down; car continued to accelerate and traveled over a large concrete barrier and crashed into building. The car could not be steered while car sped forward. The air bags did not deploy. We were wearing our seat belts and shoulder harnesses. Thankfully, the auto hit the building instead of the gasoline pumps in parking lot. After crashing into building, the engine continued to accelerate or "rev" at high rate. A lady who was pumping gas into her car rushed over to assist us. She insisted that my wife keep her foot on brake pedal and assisted in getting the driver's door open and instructing for my wife to avert her face and inch over in seat toward door after releasing the shoulder harness/seat belt. I was able to get the car in park and turn ignition off. My wife was transported by ambulance to er for treatment of injuries. Highway patrol officer made accident report. Auto was towed to private repair facility for evaluation.
