The contact owns a 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle began making a knocking noise and the contact noticed smoke rising from underneath the hood. She pulled the vehicle over and had it towed to the repair shop. The mechanic stated that the plastic intake valve melted. The purchase date was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 89,021. The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated there was pulsation in the brakes. The contact stated three times had the front rotors turned, and the front pads replaced. After about 1,500 miles the problem recurred. The dealer replaced the front rotors, but after 2,000 miles, the vehicle experienced the same problems as before. The repairs were made at the contact's expense. The dealership could not find what was causing the brake problem. The manufacturer did not provide the contact with any satisfaction, and to contact the dealership to see what they would do.

Brake rotors warped causing vibration on several occasions.
Design of vehicle rotors are causing problems with brake pads. Routine inspection of the rotors showed deep grooving of the rotors by the brake pads. The wear on the pads was within tolerance but the rotors had to be machined to restore surface integrity. The consumer contacted the manufacturer who indicated that the rotors are expendable items but the consumer disagrees and believes the braking system is designed poorly.

Upon applying brakes to make a graudal stop vehicle pulls to the left, causing poor vehicle control, problem is intermittent. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer has replaced the brake pads and rotors. However, probelm still occurs.
