2 Engine problem of the 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 10/27/2010

On October 27, 2010, my wife was driving with me in the car and she started to brake for a red light. She was going about 30 miles per hour. As soon as she applied the brake, the engine accelerated and she had to use a large amount of braking pressure to stop the car. As soon as the car stopped, she took her foot off the brake and the engine returned to idle. Yesterday, I was driving the car at approximately 55 mile per hour and started to move into the passing lane when the traffic light ahead turned red. I applied the brake and the same thing happened. I had to apply a large amount of pressure on the brake peddle in order to stop the car while the engine raced on. As soon as the car stopped, the engine returned to idle and the problem was over. Yesterday, I took the car to the dealership where it was purchased and they kept the car overnight to run various tests. They found nothing. I picked the car up this afternoon and am going to now take it to another dealer for inspection.

8 Engine problem of the 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 01/15/2006

This car has a dangerous defect. Randomly when in a stationary position, by holding the brakes, the engine and transmission sometimes suddenly accelerates powerfully, making it difficult to hold the car. I notified the dealer about this defect, several times in writing and by phone. Dec, 29, 2005 they took it on a drive, and claimed to have found no defect. Subsequently, Jan, 15, 2006 at approximately 1:00 pm, I was stopped at a red light on grand st. Nyc behind an SUV, by holding the brakes, all of a sudden it accelerated, and it was impossible to hold the car. It slammed into the SUV in front of me, smashing my front. Luckily, the SUV was not damaged. But even more luckily, we did not get hurt, (I had in the car my wife, an adult daughter, and 2 grand children). In addition, I guess we were extra lucky that we had the SUV in front of me, which averted a catastrophic mowing down of pedestrians crossing. The dealers took in the car, and notified me yesterday, Jan, 19, 2006, that they ran tests and find nothing wrong with the car.

13 Engine problem of the 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 10/03/2003

I too have recently suffered from the Ford defect - intake crack at approximately 85,000 miles as so many other have with the 4. 6 liter engine. The local dealers say their is currently no recall but their is an existing recall for police and taxi cabs. Purchased the "new style" intake for approximately $450. 00 and repaired myself. I will be holding on to the receipt when Ford realizes they better put a recall on this to regain the trust of loyal buyers! I will also be reporting a complaint to the NHTSA. 16 Engine problem of the 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 02/06/2003

The plastic part on the 4. 6 liter engine of my 1997 Grand Marquis failed in a remote part of arizona which resulted in complete engine replacement. I understand that all 4. 6 engines in crown victoria's, Mercury's, Lincoln's, and Ford trucks had this part on which many failed. Ford motor CO. So much as admitted that this part was unacceptable, because the plastic part was replaced with a metal one. However they decline to do anything if the car is beyond warranty. I understand that they had a hidden warranty for police cars and taxis with no mileage restrictions. Help !!!!!!!.

19 Engine problem of the 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 05/02/2002

I puchased my vehicle new in 1997. The harmonic balancer had two major cracks which resulted in damage to the crank shaft which resulted in the vehicle requiring a new engine. This vehicle had only 68000 miles and was never involved in an accident. An independent mechanic who examined my vehicle explained he had never seen something of this nature in all his years of repairing vehicles. Since this vehicle has never been in a accident, all indications are that this is a severe manufacturing defect. If this engine had exploded, it could have caused severe injury to the driver.

Ltr fm louis hettinger(ky) owner of a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis 4-door vehicle question if vehicle should be recalled because of fast idle. There were other consumers who experienced the same problem. (there was a fast idle upon start up and the vehicle would slow down at short notice. When the problem occurred, there was no way to control the vehicle).
