On [xxx] I was driving this recently purchased Grand Marquis . On [xxx] here in san antonio around ten at night I hit the brakes and something under the hood compartment blew up and it cocked the car . I started Mercury with foot on break like normal. Shifted into reverse. Car accelerated backwards at full speed. Brakes did not stop car. Attempted to shift into neutral but went into drive instead. Car accelerated forward at full speed with my foot still on break. Car hit metal post and tree knocking them down and dragging the tree 50 to 60 feet before stopping with my foot still on the break. Car had stopped accelerating. I turned off the ignition. This unintended acceleration had happened before. Two different dealers attempted to fix the problem. Both of them thought they had been successful but it happened again. Previously, applying the brakes stopped the car, but not this time. Someone could have been injured severely or killed.

Please note: this complaint/issue pertains to many nearly identical plastic intake manifolds sold as oem, new or replacements for cars made in the last ten years- dangerous perhaps fatal fires are likely not getting reported due to the nature of the cause. My car has a plastic manifold. When a fuel injector or fuel regulator fails, raw gasoline can collect in the plastic bottom. If more than a few drops collects, turning over the engine can cause, and did in my car, a massive explosion. Fortunately the blue & white cloud of smoke that filled my two-car garage did not ignite. Had it ignited my son and I might not have survived and our home may have burned. Not that your organization takes all complaints seriously, particularly when thousands of cars might be involved, but these cheap plastic manifolds present a real danger I believe could have already caused deaths and property damage. If you are a political entity I suspect you will ignore this. But at least a warning should be give to the public. We are replacing the fractured manifold but the replacement part is still plastic, too thin to survive what cars in the past would have survived easily.

While driving, I came to a stop light and suddenly, the car idled high and lurched forward while my foot was on the brake, luckily, I was stopped well away from the vehicle in front of me. The car idled high and seemed to have a mind of it's own. I took the back roads home and backed into our garage. The car smelled hot, and I though I had smoked my brakes, trying to keep control of it. Later that night, I told my husband about the car's actions and he did not believe me, though my daughter who was with me at the time confirmed that the car had indeed accelerated on it's own. My husband started the car and it did idle high and get hot once again, although only parked with no one in it. He thought he knew what the problem was and we turned off the car and closed the hood and went inside to order the part. A few minutes later, we heard a couple popping noises and I opened the door that led into the garage from the basement. Smoke was coming into the house and my husband said that a flame shot over my head. The car had caught on fire under the closed hood. We called the fire department, but by the time they arrived, a good portion of the basement was on fire. The house was a total loss. My husband though that the pvc elbow under the hood was sticking closed, so that is the part we were going to order. Unsure, if that was the real cause or not. The car did not have any warning lights or any other indications of a problem before this incident.
A lot have happened still trying to figure out the problem it want crank now.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving 45 mph, the contact attempted to brake, but the vehicle accelerated. The contact shifted the transmission into neutral and the vehicle stopped. The engine continued to rev for awhile and then the rpms slowed down to a normal level. The contact stated that the symptoms disappeared on their own and the vehicle operated without any failures since. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall for the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that the steering shaft was damaged. When turning, the vehicle traveled in the opposite direction of where the contact steered. The vehicle also failed to drive in a straight line and swayed from one side of the road to the other. Also, the check oil indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to fairway Ford (366 w main st, canfield, OH 44406, (330) 533-3673), but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was diagnosed, but not repaired because the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact planned to call the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 80,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving approximately 5 mph and then depressing the brake pedal to slow the vehicle down, the vehicle accelerated without warning. To avoid crashing into the preceding vehicle, the contact was able to veer to the right and continue driving. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to porter Ford (600 ogletown rd, newark, DE 19711) where it was diagnosed that the throttle body motor assembly was sticking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000.
I was driving at a speed of 45mph on a county road in rush hour traffic when my car's engine light came on simultaneously as power of vehicle slowed while making a rattle type noise and cab smelled strongly of gas. I rolled windows down pulled over within a block to a napa store. The employee told me they do not run diagnostics and I would have to take it somewhere. I drove slowly to a 2nd auto parts store 1 mile away to run diagnostics. Once done, diagnostics identified a miss-fire on spark plug #2. Had vehicle towed to home and took 'heli-coil' off and spark plug came out with it damaged. The heli coil was also damaged. The threads of spark plug was flattened three threads from bottom. Contacted auto parts store again where the technician told me that Ford has been having problems with there triton spark plugs blowing out on the 5. 4l engines that they only screw in 3 threads into the head of the engine and there were pending lawsuits. The next day I called Ford dealership and spoke with the acting service manager. "he told me there was nothing he could do about it and I should call customer care of Ford: 800-392-3673. I did and rep. Told me there was no recall and my vehicle and it was out of warranty at 101,100. Mi. There was nothing they could do. In the event there were to be a re-call to save my receipts and Ford would reimburse me. I read about the problems that multiple customers were or had had regarding the same problem with a few vehicles leaking gas with the problem. This is all happening when the cars, trucks and suvs exceeds 100,000miles. I feel this is not only poor manufacturing of an inferior aluminum casing and spark plug and also not enough threads to hold the spark plug in safely. To have it jump out allows gas to also be expelled onto the cars remaining parts and vapors could ignite causing the car to potentially catch fire.
Vehicle at times with my foot on the brake pedal, just starts to accelerate for no reason when I stop a light or in traffic.
I was driving the vehicle. As I started up a hill the speed limit changed. I gave the gas pedal a little push. It went to the floor where it stuck wide open. The car leaped forward and I immediately applied the brake. I really had to push the brake as hard as I could to get the vehicle to stop. When I got the vehicle to stop I knocked the gear shift out of drive into neutral. The engine was idling really rough but then it smoothed out. I did not crash the car and continued driving with no further problems. The vehicle has 64,875 miles on it and this is the first this has happened.
My 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis has a defective throttle body, it left me terrified and stranded on I-95 south in the center lane of a 70 mph 3 lane interstate. The engine all of a sudden went to dead idle, gas pedal was inoperative, I still had steering and brakes but didn't have the ability to get over on the shoulder with cars and big trucks scrambling to get around me, thank god it was daylight. While we had decelerated to about 30 mph my wife stuck her hand out the passenger window waving frantically and some extremely Smart truck driver realized we were in trouble and let us over to the right lane in front of him an then onto the brakedown lane. After several attempts of shutting down and restarting it finally went back to operating properly, when we got home I called Ford motor company, they told me I had no recourse but to pay to have it fixed,(the part alone is 546 dollars, not including labor) my car is like brand new with 70,000 miles on it and is only driven on long trips. We are retired people on a ssi income and feel like Ford should assist us in getting this repaired being that we are still alive to talk about. I was told by Ford that they had no record of us as owners of this car, we bought it from a Lincoln Mercury dealer as a programmed car but Ford only knows of the original owner so if there was ever a recall on it we would not have been notified. This could have been a disaster and Ford should be held responsible, how many accidents have to happen or lawsuits filed before the bean counters say enough, lets recall these vehicles or at least assist people with defective car parts?.

With only 30,000 miles, the fuel rail assembly corroded through, created a pin hole and sprayed fuel against the hood assembly and over the entire top of the engine. This occurred only 2 days after the vehicle had been repaired by Ford for the safety steering recall. The vehicle was repaired and mechanic mentioned that he has never seen this before and this assembly should not have corroded.

Upon readying for stop the vehicle surged forward. I had to put in neutral and wait until the surge discontinued. This has been going on for several months. It has become a incident that happens more often. It is very scary. A had jump happens when I put it back in gear.
The contact owns a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. In addition, a burning odor emitted inside of the vehicle. The failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.
On several occasions since I've owned this vehicle (I am original owner) when I step on the brakes hard the engine accelerates. Recently it has gotten worse and I know I'm not touching the accelerator. Today it was so bad the I was standing on the brakes with both feet and burning rubber. I shifted to park and the engine went onto max acceleration. I shut of the engine and restated and found it was still at max acceleration. I shut it off again and waited 30 seconds. When I then restarted it ran normally. Fortunately I was at a stop sign or I think there would have been a collision if in traffic.
Vehicle was purchased used in June, 2011. While braking for a stop light, vehicle suddenly accelerated. Had to forcefully pump brakes to stop vehicle from hitting vehicle in front. Car returned to normal operation as soon as I got it stopped. Have had similar incidents a couple of times before, although not as bad as this one, however, at that time I thought maybe I had accidentally pressed the accelerator while braking. I know that was not the case this time.

I was driving on the interstate going about 65 mph. I accelerated rapidly to pass a semi when I was getting close to my exit. After passing the semi I let my foot off of the accelerator but the vehicle did not slow down. I applied the brake pedal but the vehicle kept accelerating for about 5 seconds. After that I heard an audible "clunk" come from the engine compartment and the vehicle returned to normal operation. This is the second time this has happened the first was a month ago accelerating rapidly from a stand still position. In neither case did I wreck or get a speeding ticket.
I was driving at 45 mph and applied the brake to stop. The engine revved to 2,000 rpm. I was able to stop with very hard braking using both feet. The engine continue revving at 2,000 rpm even after the car had stopped. I placed the transmission in neutral and the engine revved even faster. The engine did not slow down until until I turned off the ignition. After leaving the engine off for around two minutes, I restarted the engine and it resumed running at around 500 rpm. My 23 year old son was seated next to me and verrified that nothing was touching the accelerator while the engine was revving at 2,000 rpm and that both of my feet were on the brake. The engine has revved when I applied the brake at least seven other times; however, the revving stopped after one or two seconds. I have taken the car to a Ford dealer three times for this problem; however, they have not been able to find the cause of the problem.

Engine occasionally surges when placed into reverse. The engine immediately races and the car even convulses. The only thing that stops it is to turn off the engine. This is my mom's car and she rarely drives it.
My father in law was driving my vehicle when a GMC yukon pulled out in front of him. My father in law hit the side of the yukon and only one air bag deployed which was the passanger side,my father in law was taken to the hospital bc of no feeling below his waist and the paramedics were unable to stabilize his blood pressure.
My wife was driving around 25 mph and less than one mile from our house. When she applied the brakes to stop at a stop sign the engine revved up. I was riding with her and observed the engine rev to around 2,500 rpm before slowing down. I also observed that her right foot was on the brake and that nothing was touching the accelerator. The cruise control had not been turned on. This was at least the fourth time this year that the engine reeved up when the brakes were applied. The dealer could not find the problem and the engine did not reve while the dealer was testing the car.
The road was dry and bare. I felt a right rear skid (?"black ice"). I tried to turn steering wheel to correct the skid and it was locked. It jerked out of my hands, the engine roared and the car flew to the left across the road into a large tree. I had no control over the steering wheel. On impact of the tree, there was no balloon with air bag deployment, only pungent fumes and white flecks. The car was towed and totaled.
I bought this car to replace my Chevrolet caprice(great car) on 719 07 this car has major issues that Ford motor company refuses to address. July 2011 fuel tank filler neck rusted causing a fire hazard dec20 11 rear axle control arm cracked causing car to sway Feb 2012 plastic intake cracked causing coolant to spray all over engine. Ford issued a recall for this I called the local Ford dealer about this they told me it expired so im stuck to repair the car myself front end parts not serviceable and wear out (no grease fitting to lube) this has been the worst car I have ever owned.
I was leaving a shopping center parking lot when I started the car up and everything was okay. I shifted the car into reverse and immediately the engine started to race extremely fast causing the car to move backwards with my foot still on the brake. I tried to turn off the ignition, but I was too close to the car behind me and I hit it. I was moving about 10 to 20 miles per hour with my foot on the brake which failed to stop the vehicle. After the accident, the car ran okay. I took the car to the south hills Lincoln dealership where it had been purchased. They claim there is nothing wrong with the car. I have only 27,100 miles on the car. It is a 2002 model and I have owned it since it was new. I called Ford to try to get help but they said there is nothing they can do. The dealer had the car for four days and could not find anything wrong with it. I now have a car with just over 27,000 miles and am concerned about driving it. I do not know what else to do and Ford could not care less. I did have other instances (about six) when on startup the engine would begin to race. I would immediately turn the engine off and restart it and then it would be okay. In September, 2010, I did take the car to a different repair shop and they replaced the idle control valve, but this did not do any good. The car might go a month or two without a problem. The accident was the first time it happened when the car was in gear. Other than this, the car is in perfect condition and I cannot afford to replace this car with only 27,000 miles on it.
The car all of a sudden felt different while driving one day, kind of sluggish and then the engine light went on. The temp rose and smoke started coming out from under the hood. When I pulled over to let cool down I couldn't start it up again. Had it towed to a mechanic who said that the engine was shot. Not worth repairing. Had it towed back home and its been parked in my driveway ever since.

A spark was blown out of the cylinder head. The problem occurred 3 times (2010, 2014, 2014), each time a different cylinder. One of these times, it occurred to my wife 140 km away from home. I had to guess that it was a blown spark plug and instructed her to drive the car to toronto in this condition. Concern: aside from the costly repair, I am afraid to use the car on a long trip for fear that this will happen at a place where a repair is not available. I suspect that the Ford company has modified the engine along the way, considering the fact that on a previous model I had owned for a long time (1993 Grand Marquis), the problem had never occurred.
Car caught fire had no problems with the car in the past drove about 2 miles parked and turned car off and the engine caught fire.
