Just bought the 2008 Grand Marquis, first day, radio did not work, (still does not work properly). Took the car in for oil change 2500 miles, also asked them to check out a noise the car was making. I was just informed yesterday I need a new engine. They the dealer said it was something to do with the timing chain at first the replaced that part and still had the noise. I will never own a Ford product, and they wonder why they are losing market share!!! by the way, this is my 9th Grand Marquis, I just traded an 2005 to get rid of it, it too had a noise they could not fix. Now my wife will not even drive this one when we get it back from the dealer.
The first time I changed the oil in my 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis when I started the engine there was a loud mechanical noise for a few seconds. I took it to the dealer and told him to change the oil and listen for the noise which they heard and was told all 2008 Grand Marquis do this . Also I notice the engine is noisy in the morning when I start it. I think Ford has a problem with these engines if they all do it.
Regarding my 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis. Engine fire on August 15,2007 in my driveway. Key off, vehicle driven and parked 1/2 hour before incident. I received fords recall notice on sept. 4, 2007.
2007 Mercury Grand Marquis and 2007 Ford crown victoria owner manuals incorrectly state that the 8th character of the VIN # must be a "2" for the car to have a flex fuel engine capable of using e-85. This is incorrect. The 8th character must be a "v" for the car to have the flex fuel engine. This will be very misleading for consumers. The cover on the fuel tank lid says ethanol or unleaded gasoline only. Most consumers will not know this means they can use e-85 as e-85 is not mentioned on the gas cap or cover.
On three occasions when shifting from park to reverse the engine sped up (accelerated drastically) causing the wheels to spin and only by quick application of the brake was an incident avoided. I drove into a parking space, put the car in park, then not satisfied with the position I attempted to back up, that's when the car accelerated.

Air control valve failure. This item not covered by my 90,000 mile warranty. Why not? shop said an item that controls braking jammed causing the brakes in the front brakes not to retract after releasing pedal therefore destroying calipers pads & rotors. This item not covered by extended warranty either. Why not?.
