2003 Mercury Grand Marquis, the built date is 10/2002. Grinding noise at right rear axle and fluid leaking at right rear axle seal coating the rear brakes. Right rear axle bearing and shaft assy failure per NHTSA campaign id number 04v328000. The vehicle belonged to my 75 year old father whom passed away last year. I now own the car. I'll assume the problem has existed for quite some time. According to Ford motor company there is no such problem with this vehicle. However, Ford does sell a half shaft rear axle bearing repair kit part number 4a109 $618. 91 to fix the problem. Can't seem to get Ford Lincoln Mercury to cover cost of repair.
Mercury Grand Marquis air suspension is terrible. (2009&2010) when going over a bump the car like bottoms out with a loud bang. Car sways a little must hold onto the steering wheel. Could be a safety problem???.

The contact owns a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving between 45-50 mph, the contact noticed a low pitch humming noise coming from the rear wheel. She took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the cause of the failure was premature axle wear. They also stated that they would repair all rear axles and bearings at the cost of $1,350. The manufacturer has not been notified. The current and failure mileages were approximately 44,000.

Same as odi 10142807. . . . . Ford motor issued a recall (NHTSA campaign 04v328000 & NHTSA pe 04010) for 2003 Ford crown victoria & Lincoln town car about rear bearing seals and axles. Ford l/m will not repair my 2003 Mercury marauder based on this. It is the exact same vehicle, especially the rear end. Marauder is a limited addition with the police package mentioned in the recall.
The rear end makes a thumbing noise when the vehicle speed reaches 40 mph and faster. Tires were replaced,but the noise became worse. Vehicle is currently at the dealership, who maintains that there is major problem, and the rear end has to be taken apart. There is recall 04v328000 for the rear axle fracture that consumer feels might be the cause of the noise.
Rear end of car skips sideways when hole or bump hit or uneven road at freeway speed, causes great concern as driver really does not have control of vehicle for that duration. Potential danger of contact with other vehicles at freeway speeds.

While driving any speed or when making a turn, consumer could feel tires not attaching to road and making vehicle slip, consumer lost control of vehicle, consumer had contacted dealer for tire situation, but they could not fix problem. Mercury, Grand Marquis, 2001. . Consumer also stated that the rear suspension feels soft. (michelin radial f 123ap).
Discovered problem when car was on a lift, for cosmetic work. We don't know when bolt fell out. The rear end was jumping sideways around turns since we owned the car, we didn't know it wasn't normal. . We put 1000 miles on the car in the past week that we owned the car.
Rumbling at 60 mph. Dealer confirms symptom with unknown cause. Manf. Confirms symptom with unknown repair. Both say vehicle is safe to drive. Question: if cause is unknown, how can I be sure vehicle is safe to drive?.

Rear of car jumps sideways when tire hits manhole covers or pot holes. Problem is same as previous 98 g. Marq. @ 65-70 mph this is quite dangerous, other owners have same problem.
While driving at 30 mph consumer heard a noise in the front of the vehicle. It was a whispering air sound.
