In cold weather my gas pedal sticks. Even after I have started my car and let run for 10-15 minutes. When I get in, reverse to forward position and try to accelerate- the gas pedal sticks. I have to slam on it for about 2 minutes before it actually works. This has happened while driving as well, not just the initial start. It definitely happens more in cold weather. What can I do? after research this sounds like it's a common problem with 2008 Mercury Mariners. I believe it's definitely a safety issue.

Without warning the gas pedal sticks, will not function. This happens intermittently and seems to disappear when the car warms up, but also has happened when the car is warm. Very dangerous when trying to accelerate or just drive normally. This seems to be a widespread problem with both the Ford escape and the Mercury Mariner. We have been stranded several times. This needs to be fixed by the manufacturer.

While stopped, the accelerator pedal sticks in the "up" position, and requires excessive force to move the vehicle. This sometimes results in excessive acceleration when the pedal becomes unstuck.

The contact owns a 2006 Mercury mountaineer. The contact was driving 35 mph when the accelerator pedal became stuck. The failure would occur intermittently and the contact would have to tap the pedal several times before it would release. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that a tube would need to be cleaned in order to keep the pedal from sticking. There were no recalls related to the failure and the repairs of $400 were at the contacts expense. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 103,000.
I own a 2005 Mercury Mariner, purchased new. When it gets cold the gas pedal sticks, I push down and there is no response for a few times. This almost caused me to be rear ended this morning had I not put on the hazard lights. Once it warms up it is fine. This has been going on since I bought the car brand new in 2005. This has happened over 50 times and is starting to scare the heck out of me.
