Equipment Problems of Mercury Mariner - part 1

Me and my wife purchased a vehicle from a private seller to use for personal commute. A month later we started to notice more issue were occurring with the car then stated from the seller. I took it to an auto body shop to get it inspected and possibly serviced and upon that inspection the clerk stated that there was a milage adjustment done to the vehicle. We contacted the seller to try and return the vehicle and receive our money back, but the dealer refused and requested us to resell it.

Months back there were times the power steering would go out, it would be for short amount of times and always came back. As of 40+ days ago the power steering has totally gone out and has not once come back. The dash says "power steering assist fault" the other issue is the wrench on the dash. It's normally after driving for quite some time. Even if there has been a break on the car while grocery shopping etc. When it comes on the car goes into limp mode. Very dangerous as we cannot tell when it'll happen. There has been multiple times the light turns green we take off, get to about 15-20mph and she just stops. The dash reads to safetly pull over and I believe it says to shut off the car. This has been happening for 5+ months. There is also random over heating when that happens. This is based on how I remember it. Because of the safety issues I have not driven the vehicle. My husband drives it because he can handle no power steering better then me. . . Not that it's better for anyone to use. .

My vehicle keeps throwing codes for the evap system. I have noticed many of these vehicles have to have their purge valve cannister replaced along with the selenoid for it. I have to replace mine. Is that not a defect if the vehicle? I have owned several vehicles and never had this issue with any of them.

Car was in accident in October of 2022 has been lost since.

My power steering light popped on about 6-9 months ago for about 10 seconds and then turned off. About a month ago now, I gently hit a boulder with my front right tire. I dented a couple of steering rods and something else. Got it fixed, and then when the repair guy was backing my car out of their shop, my car just turned on its own. It's the same issue that required a recall of the steering column in this car years ago. (I had it replaced as part of that recall in 2014. ) I talked to 3 different Ford dealership parts departments. They all told me the same thing. "hmm. . . This is very odd. I've never seen a part number changed so many times. They also changed the location of this specific factory. . . This is really odd. Right now, Ford is guaranteeing 300 steering columns being manufactured and released in September and another 300 in October. But there are over 850 people on the pre-order list. " so tell me why, this part was recalled like 6+ years ago and all of a sudden now, these same parts are having the same issues. The power steering will just stop working whenever it wants. Every single Ford parts guy I talked to at the 3 different Ford's I talked to said all of the above is very suspicious. "it seems like Ford never fixed the problem and it trying to cover their ass".

The passenger side front tire became disconnected while driving. The frame rusted and broke causing the tire to separate from the vehicle. The tow truck driver commented that he had never seen this before. I had the vehicle towed to firestone only to have them tell me they could not fix the vehicle. The vehicle has not been thoroughly inspected, but is available to be inspected. I noticed a change in the steering wheel position for about a week prior to the tire separating. If the tire would have separated from the vehicle while driving on a highway or busy street, more damage and possible injury could have resulted.

I was making a turn and the vehicle seemed as if the steering locked up. It randomly does this and is starting to be more and more often. It has already made me run off of the road and hit a culvert causing even further damage.

The wheel wells are rusted out in the rear. Of the vehicle.

I was going down the 4lane in my home town an my steering wheel just stopped working could have caused me to have a accident I was going 55 miles an hour it could have been bad if I hadn't had both hands on the steering wheel please thank you kathy.

My wife is driving the car and the power steering quits working several times. Off and on. Speed varies. . Very scary!.

The accelerator sticks and this is very dangerous.

Power steering goes out at regular intervals. In the same type of issue as the following recall notice 14s05/NHTSA or the electric assist system as bad.

Car was accelerating from stop to about 15 mph up a slight incline when the engine shut off and “stop safely now” appeared on the dashboard. At the same time ?? this symbol lit up on the dashboard as well. I came to a stop, shut the car off and tried to start it. On the third attempt it started normally.

This car has excessive under body rust under all the wheels wells. I was just told that my car would not pass a state inspection because the on the front drivers side there is a bracket that holds up the engine is almost totally gone. I have read and over that this vehicle has a known rust and corrosion issue and Mercury/Ford has not been made responsible. I bought this car from a Ford dealer in aberdeen, MD used in 2018 and made them aware that I noticed rust on the rear wheel panels. They told me there is no recall however now I am not in a position to purchase or fix the entire under carriage of this vehicle. And I do not feel safe that an important bracket supporting the engine is totally rusted out.

2008 Mercury Mariner throttle control powertrain light comes on, transmission cannot go into gear properly, it stops at 4000 rpm, and it struggles to go at higher speeds,.

Front lower sub frame rust through in aria under a/c , close to point of braking . Seams to be a comin problem as my repair shop said they replace three or four a year . Some have broken while on road causing steering problems . This apparently happens when the vehicles are about ten years old . # found on inspection .

Re:NHTSA identifier 19v904 Ford internal reference number:19s54 although Mercury Mariners are not listed in this recall, my 2008 Mercury Mariner has the exact same issue, sticking abs valve. Ford will not recognize my vehicle as part of this recall. I have had 2 different certified mechanics work on the vehicle and both mechanics have installed new brake boosters, brake pads and master cylinders. The results from their work did not resolve the issue of soft brakes. The problem began when I made an abrupt stop while driving on a city street. The brakes were never fully functional after that. I believe the situation with my Mariner is identical to the issue identified in the NHTSA identifier 19v904. I also believe that Mercury Mariners should be included in this Ford recall.

When shifting into gear the vehicles wrench light comes on and regen disabled show up and the vehicle won't accelerate. I can shut it off and back on and the wrench light will go away for a couple miles then back on with the same problems.

The vehicle ac unit water drains directly over the front sub-frame and rusts through the frame, at which point the front driver side suspension will collapse and loss of steering results. This problem was acknowledged for some escape vehicles, but not its Mercury Mariner equivalent, even though it shares same part/problem. Dealer refuses to cover repair and cust sevice suggested I contact NHTSA.

Last year in April I got the car , didn't have it for a week the power steering went out . I got it fixed . Here it is 2020 of August , the power steering assist came on . The steering wheel locked up on me . I don't have the money to keep replacing this same part . I looked into the recalls for the vehicle . I seen a couple , called a number I seen they said the recall expired. So I'm back to square one . I don't know exactly what part I need .

The car is reving high and accelerating poorly. Then the red triangle light telling me to stop safety now comes on causing me to pull over and shut car off. I turn the car back on and it drives but with same issues. Look on the carcomplaint. Com website for TSB-09-19-12 and TSB-08-24-5 which detail what my car is doing and makes it appear like there is a cooling pump recall. Ford just told me there are no recalls listed for my VIN though. The frequency of which the red triangle light comes on is increasing this month. It was every few months and now it is weekly-daily.

When filling gas tank yesterday once full gas leaked from under the wheel well onto the tires. The car was parked at a gas station. I was asked to move the car away from the pump by the gas attendant.

Takata recall well driving my vehicle lost acceleration. When I step on the gas the vehicle didn't accelerate as the rpm went up. I was coming to a stop light on city street. As I made the stop at stop-light as the light turn green I stepped on the has and the rpms went up but vehicle barely moved.

Ignition switch teeth messed up causing the key to not turn correctly. Gas pedal sticks when it's cold outside. If you hit a small amount of water it causes the vehicle to lose traction control, abs system goes out, and brakes get really soft and air bag lights come on. Transmission bogs out with 2nd gear.

Faulty seal on the rear window has caused water to seep into the hatch release mechanism. Rear door will not open. There is no repair that can fix this issue. Cannot change rear lights due to being unable to open the rear door.

2011 Mercury Mariner. Consumer writes in regards to throttle body warranty extension.

I had just gotten off the highway and my wrenc symbol illuminated and the car immediately went into limp mode. I crawled to a safe spot. It was a very dangerous situation. No warning at all.

Just bought this vehicle 1/25/2018. It has a moldy smell. How can I tell if it is a flood vehicle? it also has a air leak in the front windshield, that I can hear, when driving. This vehicle, was from louisiana. I will contact the dealer, Monday morning about the windshield.

2 issues that the local Ford dealer said they could not assist. (jordan Ford)upper shock busing from p/s rear shock came out causing shock rod to make excessive noise and contact body, as well as rust from p/s inner wheel wheel. Only that location. Appears to be a rustproofing issue. Rest of truck in great condition. Soon to be a safety issue if I do not have repaired.

Switch for ac wont blow out air. Took it to valoline to add freon. . They said, it was full. . Cold worked for 5 days then ac stopped working at hotest time of month. . . Took vehicle back and they stated, it was full still but added more freon to make me happy. . After a few days no ac and I took to a mechanics business. The owner and 4 others stated that the belt is turning maybe they overfilled it. . Told me to take it back to valoline and have them take out all freon then put amount back in but not to full. I did, worked for 2 days now again no ac. Blower worked but no ac comes out. . I cant afford anymore visits. Now as of yesterday the blower will only work on number 4. 1 2 3 nothing comes out. Please assist me with this problem. . I have been so happy with this car for 3 years. I take excellent care of everything it needs. First Ford I ever owned. . . Hope its not the last one I own if this doesnt get solved. Thank you for this site. This is my last resort. . I have had it in shop to many times concerning this matter. . Denise saftey issue here . I was going to work very foggy and I turned on heater to clear windshild no blower worked on numbers 123 but 4 would. . Cant have it running full blast always. . Ac if full but wont work with blower on. . Being hot really makes me cranky and that can cause raod rage safety issue there too. Lol lol please help me. . .

Car stopped running wrench light came on started motor put it in gear tried to go regular pace car did not go it is very slow no gas peddle turned it off let set for 2 hrs. Started back up runs ok but check eng. Lite came on called dealer.

My truck stalls. I purchased a new battery, and it continues to stall while driving or idling.

As I was driving 55 mph on a us route (no overpasses in the area), I heard what sounded like a gun shot and then the glass of my sunroof shattering. The interior shade was closed so I could not see the damage immediately. When I pulled off the road there was a large hole in the center of the sunroof glass and the glass was raised upwards as though it had been impacted from an object thrown from inside the vehicle. There was no evidence of any object that might have impacted it from the outside.

My wife was driving on her way home, and out of nowhere the steering felt weird, and while driving the car shut off. No power steering or power brakes (due to engine shutting off) and we do not know why this happened.

The cpu unit has had a complete failure and the a new replacement part is not available. Vehicle year is a 2008. The problem started to become hard to start the complete failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer.
